A trip to Bacolod is not complete without visiting Calea, one of the famous dessert places in Bacolod. It has delighted countless foodies with its wide selection of pastries and I was excited for it to tickle my taste buds.

Hello, Calea.

I was hoping to do a photo op with its famous rustic blue door. Unfortunately, its main branch was under renovation when we were in Bacolod so we had to make do with its L'Fisher Hotel branch.

We got there a bit past 8 p.m. and the place was half full.

I was impressed with the number of cakes on display making it very hard for me to choose just one cake. But after a couple of minutes and suggestions from the staff, I decided to go with Choco Crunch Ice Cream Cake (PHP95) while R went with Choco Mud Pie (PHP110). R's friends K and M went with Chocolate Cake (PHP95) and Blueberry Cheesecake (PHP95).

Service was quick as we got our cakes in less than 5 minutes.

I first tried my Choco Crunch Ice Cream Cake topped with rice crispies and it was good. The vanilla ice cream topped with chocolate covered rice crispies is a treat Crunch fans would like.

However, it would have been better if the rice puffs were crunchier.

I liked R's Choco Mud Pie more as the chocolate ice cream Calea used was rich and creamy.

The chocolate cake was great too as it was decadent. The chiffon was moist while the cream filling added sweet taste and thick texture to the beautiful slice of cake.

I liked that the base of the blueberry cheesecake had a bit of crunch and that the cake itself was very dense and creamy. The blueberry on top added a sweet and slight tarty taste to it.

We actually ordered coffee to go with our cakes but the server forgot our order. And it was a good thing since we were full from the cakes.

Though all cakes were good, I didn't find it exceptional. I guess I was expecting too much from this famous cake shop. But I'd give this place another go in my next visit to the City of Smiles.

Remember when I said we had Calea twice on the same 3-day food trip? This was our almost last hurrah before we had to fly back to Cebu. 128569

So I read more what to order in Calea and we found out that their bestseller is actually their Mud Pie. It's so popular that they don't put it on their display chillers anymore or they'll run out fast. They keep this in the kitchen now. 128568 It was sooooooo gooooood! I didn't really expect to enjoy it so much. It's not too sweet and so chocolatey and just awesome! 128571

We also ordered their Pecan Caramel Cheesecake. It kind of reminded me of Bo's Coffee's Dulce De Leche Cheesecake. It was great! Again the sweetness is very well controlled, it balanced perfectly with the slightly salty and sweet cheesecake. I also really like the texture of the cheesecake! 128568

The best part is that everything they have is very affordable! I will definitely come back! 10084

Went to Bacolod for a food trip with some Cebuano friends last March. We had desserts here after our unli-rice binge in Chicken Deli. We were just two guys, me and my diabetic aunt when we went so typically it was just three of us really eating. But you'd be amazed by how much we ordered here... More so, how we wiped the plates clean. 128569

1.) Pistachio Sans rival
This was so delicious! It wasn't too sweet, and the pistachio flavor was very well pronounced, the butter based frosting was great too! 128571

2.) Belgian Chocolate Cheesecake
Again, I expected this to be too sweet, but it was actually just right! The balance of flavor between the chocolate and cheesecake is perfect! 128568

3.) Mango Brazo
I loved this one! I like mango based desserts and this one is awesome. The natural sweetness of the mango is only enhanced, and not masked by the other ingredients. 128571

4.) Choco Crunch Ice Cream Cake
We ordered this one because we wanted an ice cream cake, and we all like Nestle's Crunch. Basically it's vanilla ice cream and topped with milk chocolate and rice crispies. Sounds simple, but I absolutely loved it! 128571

5.) Triple Chocolate Mousse
I really liked this too. The three kinds of chocolate (dark, white and milk) was so pronounced so every bite with all the layers was delicious! 128568

6.) Broken Glass Cake
This is a gelatine based cake with pieces of jelo. My aunt orders this all the time because it's Calea's cake with the least amount of sugar. This was my least favorite of all the ones we had, but it was still good. 128568

My guests from Cebu enjoyed this place so much, we made plans to come back before our flight back. And we did. I'll write about that separately. 128569 Everything here is highly recommended, and the prices are ridiculously affordable! 128571

Finally Calea has another branch...closer to the airport! Consistently good, sinfully rich cake enough to satisfy one's sweet tooth.

My mom just brought home apple pie from bacolod, and it was worth the trouble! Really good apple pie with perfectly cooked apples, a little crunch on top, and the perfect cinnamon flavour.

Spent 8 days in BCD with lovely titas taking care of me and my teammates during the 20th Unigames.

Tita Ging, the owner of Calea, hosted our farewell dinner before we go back to Manila. Thank you Tita Ging!

Had this lovely chocolate cake, canonigo, and caroot cake but we had a free for all, eat all you can dessert spree. Each night we had different cakes delivered to our dorm.

Must try cakes are their Caramel Crumble, their poey gooey Chocolate Cake and their Mamon!

They also have coffee. Super awesome place with super awesome food. Something you should try if you're in Bacolod. 128571
