After having my braces installed 128514 (what's the right term?), I was really hungry and wanted to quickly grab something to eat nearby. Good thing the building does have a restaurant (or maybe even more but I didn't check further)

The place looks promising, small but decorated well. It's actually a good place to take pictures and people would think you're eating in some fancy place 128541128541128541 I was the only customer here at noontime 128563 but since the menu looks good and affordable - I decided to try it out.

I wasn't sure if I can chew properly, so I ordered lasagna. I was expecting soft, almost melt-in-your-mouth, creamy and cheesy lasagna; but what came out was an al dente and petite dish 128513128513128513 not creamy at all and no melted cheese 128546 i died inside... 128148

However, I did enjoy it after 2 forkfuls 127860, it is flavorful but not the typical lasagna that I was expecting - not to mention, putting my newly-installed braces to a test 128514128513

The cannoli, risotto balls and pasta we tried were very good, and so tipped me away from almost rating this restaurant with a "dislike".

My friends and I walked in on a rainy evening at about 6 pm and the chef was not around. Thus, we could only have the cannoli and risotto balls - not even the sausage platter or the pasta. It was aggravating trying to order from the waitress, even a simple thing like wine!! Who leaves their restaurant with barely any food available and rather unhelpful staff?

I see here in looloo that there was a similar complaint in August last year - no chef, and barely any food to serve except the pasta.

The chef was caught in horrendous traffic and rushed past us accompanied by many grocery bags. I let out a comment that there was no food but was ignored. Actually, no one apologized for the mistakes or bad service or the lack of food, or the late arrival of the chef. Quite a turn-off!!! And a pity for what otherwise seems like a promising food stop. Very sad.

It was our Thursday date with Ruth A and Kirby G 128111128114 Ruth reserved a table for us; but we didn't know she reserved the whole resto. 128517 Because upon entering, we were " literally" the only customers during that time.

It has this Italian vibe, with wines and pasta and panini and other stuff. I was sold to try their pesto pasta. 128588 Nothing else would matter; I just want to try that. 128523

Ruth also ordered grilled salmon something-something panini. It tastes okay but we all thought that the bread itself tastes old. 128530

Would probably go back to the place for the wine and other pasta.

Love the ambience of this place! (Gives the same vibe as Bellini's) Dined here at 11am and the woman behind the counter told us that their cook hasn't arrived yet and that all she can serve us was pasta. We had their Pesto Pasta, Black Truffle Pasta, and an extra serving of bread. I had high expectations for the Black Truffle Pasta because it was highly recommended by the looloo community, but i didn't like at all. The noodle was okay but it lacks flavor, like totally. The Pesto Pasta was good but nothing stellar. Their extra bread was unremarkable as well. They didn't have Cannoli at the moment so we didn't get to try it... Perhaps I can give this place another visit but only to try out their Cannoli. Sad.

Random weeknight coffee with the husband :) this was his first time here and he loved it! The ambience, the coffee, the food, the service--everything! :)

We just came in for coffee and good there is quite a decent selections. I got caffe latte and the husband got Caffe Americano with 1 shot of espresso. We shared and order of Cannoli, which was so gooooood. 2 pieces for Php 170.

Since it was a Wednesday night, we were the only customers. I believe it was the owner who served us. He was so friendly and accommodating. Plus free and fast wifi! :)

Their Black Truffle Pasta was amaaaaaazing! Al dente linguine pasta with oil-based truffle sauce that shouts TRUFFLE as you consume the flavorful dish. Other truffle pasta dishes claims to have truffle oil as an ingredient but can hardly be tasted, but this dish is definitely not one of them. Serving size is also just enough for a light meal. :)

Small and quaint excellent food, order the black truffle pasta, limoncello and lumumba. Don't leave without having the cannoli for dessert!

Black truffle pasta is good. Cannoli is nothing to write home about. Coffee was on the sour side. Prices are good though.

DO NOT be fooled by a seemingly small tower of pasta when it gets served, it actually unravels to a hearty meal! I think it's just traditional to fork it up into a swirl tower.

This is the third time I've dated in this restaurant (same girl haha), grabe the PESTO... MUST TRY. At only 170, this is a steal!! We actually end up ordering three of it. So instead of the usual 1 pasta each then an 'ulam', when we're in sicilianita, it's just pasta pasta pasta! Sarap talaga. And even at three servings it still won't break the bank (HA! Take that Italiannis. And NO, I have not been to project pie because it's too uso... Trying to be hipster ako. Haha)
Serving time has also been greatly reduced, a big improvement over the last few months. Definitely going back!

Peace!!

When my friends told me about an Italian place along Shaw, I immediately thought of Project Pie. Surprisingly, there is a lesser-known restaurant at the Babyland building called Cantina Sicilianita.

We had the good fortune of talking with the owner, who says he designed the menu around his favorite, the Sicilian Cannoli (more on that later).

The place is quite small, but feels very homey. There was only one waitress when we were there, and one cook, so it took some time before they could serve all 15 of us. But given how many we were and the short notice, I think they handled it pretty well.

I ordered the Black Truffle Pasta for my main. I didn't ask if their pasta was freshly made, but it was al dente, and tasted delicious! The truffle flavor was strong, and there were fresh mushrooms mixed into the pasta, which were just great. At 250, this can feed two people on a date, and I think is pretty good value for money.

For dessert I ordered their Cannoli, which is their house special. I've never had Cannoli before, and only heard about it in movies like the Godfather, so I was intrigued. It tastes a lot like really thick barquillos with a mixture of ricotta cheese, cream and pistachios filled inside. Needless to say, I enjoyed it! Not to sweet, and I explored something new too. The Cannoli is 150 per order and is either served in twos, or paired with coffee.

Overall, I liked this place a lot, and would would definitely recommend a visit. 128522

Small nice-looking surprise of Shaw Boulevard in Mandaluyong. I lived in that area for two years without noticing this Italian restaurant.
The owner was there when we came and he welcomed, brought us to our table and presented some of their bestsellers. How many restaurant owners will do that?
We ordered their merlot wine, prosciutto sampler (2 orders, hehehe), lasagna and gamberetti.

Prosciutto sampler was good, with olives and 2 different types of cheese (wish there could be more items on the plate though, although at Php240, it was just okay).

I would have rated the lasagna 5 if not for the tough last layer. Definitely not your ordinary-tasting lasagna.

Gamberreti was spicy, which delighted me.

They only offer two types of wine in glass, merlot and chardonnay (Php130 per glass). Would have been better if they offer more types in glass, not just in bottle.

With the taste of the food we had, their menu is sure very promising. Only drawback to this place is the availability of their dishes. They definitely need to prepare more, especially for Friday nights. Imagine the owner getting our buy-in to get their bestsellers only for us to find out that they ran out of stocks for those dishes from the waitress.

Still worth going back to though.

I've seen this restaurant in a few blogs and in instagram and I think this place deserves to be on top of the list when it comes to Italian dining. It's really quite fun if you try out quaint little places and eventually would give you the "yum this is a good restaurant" experience and of course it was also worth looking for since Im not familiar where it was.

Though this place is a bit hard to find on a rainy night. Eating here would never be a mistake.

What we ordered...

Sicilian meatballs - for starters, tender, flavourful and good
Spaghetti with Pesto sauce - a bit bland for me
Black Truffle pasta - i loved it
Cannoli - this should't be missed!

Met the owner Mr. Mark Buhain who loved talking to his guests. He would approach his diners and would ask how the food is. Very personal approach I might say. Another thing he told me proudly was that he didn't even come from any cullinary school but he perfected his cooking because of his passion for sicilian food. Thats his drive and I give him the thumbs up for that.

So I hope this restaurant will have another branch soon and would still serve the best sicilian meatballs and cannolis in town.

Looking for a cozy and good Italian pasta and wine place? Check. Looking for a law book? Check. The place used to be just Rex Bookstore. Though you can still find the books being sold behind the dining area. Too bad they don't accept credit card payment for food or book purchases.
