I rarely turn down an invitation for a foodie meet up because of a couple of things. Aside from the food, which of course I always look forward to when visiting a restaurant, I am always also excited to hear about the latest food trips of my fellow foodies.

So I was happy to visit Casa Italia Cafe on a sponsored invite, and the people behind them are all worth praising about for being such a gracious host. They are actually planning to launch a new lineup of rice meals and desserts soon. Each one of us foodies filled out a survey. I actually shared out loud my personal review with everyone I was with during our foodie meetup.

In summary, among the four rice meals that we have had, I find the hickory barbecue pork belly the most promising of all. The meat wasn’t fatty, it was somewhat tender, and it was also flavorful.

I guess the dish that I prefer the least is their sole fish in cream sauce because I find it somewhat dull on my end. It was actually the capers that added an extra oomph to it.

It seems like Casa Italia’s drinks and desserts are the ones that draw in customers to their cafe. I have raved about their “Summer Daydream,” which is an apple peach cobbler, and their “Midnight Surprise,” which happens to be their choco lava. The stuff that make up the concoctions worked pretty well together, and the drinks were all bursting of sweetness.

The dessert that stands out the most in Casa Italia is their authentic gelato. Casa Italia actually started out as a gelato place in Italy, thus explains their expertise in making gelatos. We were all so happy to try out six different flavors of their gelato, most of which are fruity ones. We were also able to try out their classic and chocolate chili flavors.

Their choco chili gelato will give you a kick of spice in every spoon. This is definitely a must have if you are to visit Casa Italia Cafe.

Late review as in the picture is their Red Velvet gelato. I'm not sure if's still available as they released this as part of their Valentine's offering.

In terms of taste, this red velvet gelato is yummy. It was smooth, sweet, and chocolate-y. I loved the heart-shape brownie on top. I actually requested for it for a better photo. 128514 Though I find this good, it still didn't replace pistachio and dark truffle in my favorite ice cream list here at Casa Italia.

P.S. Every Friday and Saturday night, they offer buy one get one (bogof) beer for 90php.

My friend likes Casa Italia a damn lot. Whenever she holds a meetup with our friends it's the only venue that she suggests. I've never been to any of these meetups though because being a night shifter can ruin your social life like that.

One morning, after my shift, I passed by Casa Italia and thought I deserved a gelato. Just like that I got in and had a moment of confusion whether I should get a coffee or a gelato. I settled on my first option, gelato. There are many flavors to choose from, good thing there's free taste. I didn't abuse it though and just sampled 2 flavors, formaggi and salted egg.

The salted egg was very faithful to its flavor, holy smokes it did taste like salted egg. It wasn't very sweet too so kulang na lang kamatis at kanin hahaha...

But I opted for salted caramel because salted egg was too salty for me. Yes I like salty, as you may have noticed.

I picked the smallest cup for PHP 150 because I cannot justify the need to pay so much for gelato. The consistency is thick and it was really good, no umay factor also, which is a plus. And it was finished before I knew it.

I only tried gelato so I have more photos of the interiors in this review than the food. One thing's for sure, I now have an idea why my friend loves Casa Italia.

First of all, WOW. This resto is so beautiful. Love the ambiance, very high-end and classy. The pizza and macaroni ziti we ordered were so delicious, as well. Love the way it was served. Can't wait to go back and try the other food on their menu.

Enjoyed a quiet afternoon at Casa Italia with two of my friends and one not so little gentleman. We chose this place specifically for the little man who was with us because we wanted him to enjoy his time as the three of us were catching up.

I enjoyed the casual yet classy ambience of the store. The gelato case looked so inviting that plans to get something more substantial flew out the window. I had a hard time choosing a flavor for my medio cup, but I immediately enjoyed the earl grey and the After Eight. The gelato's texture was smooth and very creamy. My friend's son was so happy with his choices. We were happy that they had some books and games on the second floor, so our little bodyguard was somewhat occupied. Three of us enjoyed coffee-- mine was a macchiato-- because we started to feel chilly after staying for a while. The place is so conducive for long conversations, hanging out or even studying. We all would like to try their food next time, looks pretty good...

Btw, I like this branch much much better than their SM North one.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for ice cream! Geez. That's old huh. But my friends and I really craved for ice cream after our dinner at Shrimp Bucket.

Since I really love Casa Italia's Pistachio gelato, it's almost given that we'll have our dessert here. 128541 Although I already knew that time what to order, I still availed their free taste. No judgement please, I just want to try them all. 128517 I tried their Melon gelato and I loved it. It did really taste like melon + milk refrigerated for several hours. I just didn't like the consistency as I wish it was smoother. I also tried their Snickers. If you love the chocolate version of it, then you'll love this gelato too. However, it's too sweet for me! Anyway, I ordered their medium size for 195php, 2 scoops. I had my favorite Pistachio, and I partnered it with Dark Truffle. Like what I kept telling my friends, Casa Italia's Pistachio gelato is legit. When they say pistachio, they mean pistachio. Really really yummy! Their Dark Truffle was good too. I loved its bitterness and sweetness at the same time.

What I loved during this visit aside from their ice cream? Their service. We came in a big group and they were still all smiles to let us try as much flavors as we want. I was happy that they have second floor for a bigger tambayan. They have self-service water station too.

P.S. Their flavor of the month is After Eight. Mint chocolate baby! Only 95php for a small cup. 128517

I love Casa Italia for a couple of reasons. First, their second floor has just about the right size for barkada hang-outs. Second, they have stable and fast wifi and lastly they have a wide selection of gelato flavors. It's my default place when I need some work done outside of home. They also do not mind if I stay there for a long time.

On this particular visit I decided to get a double scoop of gelato: Chili Choco and Avocado

> Chili Choco - dark chocolate that had the right sweetness and a little bitter made more delectable with the added chili. You won't notice the chili at first but after a few seconds, you'll feel the heat in your throat. It isn't too spicy. Just the right kick to enhance the flavor of the chocolate.

> Avocado was thick and creamy. It had a rich avocado flavor in it. It was like the real mashed fruit with milk kept in the freezer for hours! What I liked the most was that it didn't have too much sweetness nor milk.

Always a challenge to choose which flavors to get. There's just a lot plus most really taste good! Good thing they're generous enough to let you taste test as long as you want LOL

Had the Valrhona Dark Truffle and it was okay. It was more bitter than your regular dark chocolate but it was rich and tasty. Just order Piccolo (one scoop, 130php) because it tends to have an umay factor. I also tried their Avocado gelato but it had a bitter aftertaste. I still prefer Farmacy's which was more on the creamy side.

Note: dont be shy to ask for free taste before buying cos they have a wide selection of flavors!

And right after a healthy dinner, we find ourselves in Casa Italia. Wahahaha

The first thing you’ll notice when entering is their high ceiling and well-lit display! I got excited to pick my flavor, but upon seeing the names, the picky side of me, was kind of disgusted that they were mostly fruity flavors. Disgusted talaga eh. Hahaha

Anyway, to get to the bottomline of this visit… I think their flavors are unique, but their gelato is nakakaumay!!! Although, I had 2 servings of the 2 scoops..

And this is why… at first, I picked Valrhona Chocolate Chip and Formaggi (Cheese) for my flavors. That was a good combo! But… not even half way through my cup, I started chewing on something that seemed like a small piece of plastic. I examined it… and it was in fact plastic.. I immediately called someone from the staff and just reported it so that they’re informed. I didn’t think of it as dirty, so I didn’t feel the need to ask for a new cup. Sooooo, I thought everything was going to be okay already. Until… there it was again… another piece of plastic. Another spoon, just to make sure.. another piece of small plastic.. for awhile I thought that hey maybe it’s some type of cheese I’m encountering for the first time.. Lol but I told my friend to try and when she did.. PLASTIC!!!!

Of course, the next thing I did was inform the guy who served it to me himself. I left my cup with him and the tissue with all the plastic, went back to my seat, and waited for him to get to the bottom of it.

He came out of the kitchen in less than 5 minutes, calling me to the display and asking me if I wanted another cup, while explaining what went wrong. He said that the gelato-maker might have accidentally scraped of some of the plastic packaging of one of the ingredients.. Okay, at least they’re admitting that something was not right and they’re sorry, but what threw me off was it was like he was asking me if I still wanted to get the same flavour after… Seryoso.. then he goes on telling me or I can opt for another flavor instead. Hayyy I don’t know what he was thinking, but in my part that was wrong. He shouldn’t have offered me the same flavor from the same batch anymore. 128542

I ended up with another cup of Valrhona Chocolate Chip and got the Bailey’s flavor as an alternative. Good combo too! But super umay nga! My throat got sore and itchy after. Huhu

I really liked the cheese tho, so maybe I’ll try again in the future. But not soon. Not yet over it..

Gelato time after a great lunch at the Japanese Wagyu next door! This is my first time at Casa Italia. Thought it was only an Italian resto before, not glancing inside and checking out their awesome display of over 30 flavors of gelato. It's not my usual cuisine, Italian, I'm afraid. But having a better look at their display in recent months, I knew I'd eventually get the chance to try it. This beingmy erstwhile 'hood and all.

My mother-in-law peered in and tasted their samples after we had ordered in Japanese Wagyu, and she settled that we will definitely have coffee and dessert there afterwards...

Finally, Casa Italia…

As is customary, you can taste flavors before choosing. After trying several gelatos, I decided on Bailey's, and my wife ordered Pink Guava. For the grande cup, you can put 3 flavors and you get a free cone on the side. So I was torn between Earl Grey and Salted Caramel, and settled on the latter.

The Bailey's nailed the flavor! With that Liqueuer aftertaste that Bailey's is known for. Awesome. Creamy, with just the right liqueuer sweetness and the familiar Bailey's sublime whiskey aftertaste. And all the flavors ordered had the right sweetness, nothing overly cloying. Their Pink Guava tasted good, blending the sweet and tartness. More to my liking than that of Farmacy. Their salted caramel was nice, but too subtle for my taste. Had caramel bits, but lacked the saltiness. Didn't like their Pistachio (trial only, just had to mention it), having tried Salvatore Cuomo's a few days ago so it pales in comparison. The cone was crunchy but too thick to eat. Good thing we ordered it on the side. Gelato experience, 4/5

Also shared a cup of Americano, which tasted good but I'm not an over expert on coffee. It had a good balance to it. I like mine black with a Splenda.

I'll try their other savory dishes next time. Service efficient and friendly. Ambiance modern, clean and bright cream colors, and casual. They also sell pastries and pizza based on their display on the far end of the resto. The gelato display is pretty nice to look at, too.

I'm here again and i was surprised to see new gelato flavors.

128204128525 valrohna
Last time i was hooked on dark valrohna, this variation is of course a little bit lighter but it still got that Belgian sort of kick at the end

128204128525cacao
Yummy. Filipino style chocolate. Pure champorado flavor. There were sticky whole chocolate parts!

128204128525chili choco
Semi dark chocolate with a spicy feel at the throat after two seconds of swallowing it--- mmmm.

128204128525 liquorato
Gelato with a kick. Get to choose a scoop of gelato plus either a shot or two of available liquor. I chose cacao over baileys and it was just gorgeous!

At the end I ordered a liquorato and a medio cup with chili choco and pistachio flavors! So gelato splurge day it went!

I did not know that there's a common CR on the second floor.

Also, i was surprised to see clarissa dining alone by the corner. She took notice of Dennis O and voila. Chat time! Nice to meet you in person Clarissa P 9786128077🏼

When I go to Casa Italia, it's always about their gelato. My daughter and I loves trying their flavors then picking out two to share. On this particular visit, it was just me. They also didn't have a lot of gelato flavors to choose from because one of their display freezer was under "preventive maintenance." I went for their coffee instead since I haven't tried it yet.

I got a Flat White - smallest size. Paired it with a butter croissant and asked them to warm it. Went up to their second floor and waited for my orders.

The coffee was good! It was bold and strong and had a good bitter and sour notes. There was a little too much milk, but that's just my opinion. I added a teaspoon of sugar and enjoyed my warm drink. Not bad at all.

The croissant was flaky on top but tends to get a little bread-ish towards the middle. It's best when consumed while warm. Smothered with butter then with strawberry jam is the best way to go.

Really love the vibe of this place and since it's very spacious, you won't get that too cramped feeling even if it's packed. Wifi is ultra fast too!

Didn't like the Avocado flavor. 128546 It had a bitter taste. We asked one of the crew if it's supposed to be that way and he said yes. Hmm...Really? Anyway, the Ferrero flavor was good.

I will always love their Dark Truffle and Pistachio.

The staff here were very accommodating that they can allow you to taste as much flavors as you want. Interesting, right?

P.S. They also serve coffee! I like their hot mocha! 9749
