A semi-private resort off the strip of Samal island is where Chema's by the Sea is located.
We were supposed to go to Pearl Farm as we usually do when we're in Davao. However, as luck would have it, the resort was full to the brim. It was summer, after all... plus the fact that we tried to reserve at the last time minute thinking that we'll be accomodated.
So then we went ahead and checked good ol' Google for some tips. After some strict deliberation, we all finally agreed to go to Chema's this time around.
It wasn't a bad decision... yet.
Chema's, unlike some of the resorts nearby, is semi-private. Which means, the resort tries to keep the crowd to a minimum. The small resort only has a handful of villas, a small cold infinity pool, small but clean beach, and an artsy-fartsy restaurant. I liked that the whole place is covered with trees, it keeps the semi-naked bodies burn in heat.
In terms of the amenities and the place, I could say that it's worth it. The food we ordered are hit and miss. It's also a bit expensive for the quality of the food that they're serving. Some of the dishes weren't exceptional... well, actually most of it are forgettable.. but it's not bad. It's just the kind of place that you won't visit because of the food.
The service at the restau is downright disappointing though. When we arrived at around 10am, I ordered us a few snacks for the kids. The food arrived after an hour and after I've followed up a couple of times. So then I suggested that we order our lunch in advance so we can eat without waiting too long. I gave our orders at around 11 and asked that it be served by 12:30noon. They took it and told us that they'll just inform us when it's already prepared in the dining area.
12:30 came and there was no call. So I followed up, and the staff checked in the kitchen. After 10 minutes or so of waiting for an update, I asked again, there was still no response. The kids were getting hungry. I followed up several times after that and I even went up to the dining area to ask. Mind you, it's not easy going there because you have to take a flight of stairs to reach it. Still, I didn't get any answers.
I was starting to get irritated so I asked everyone to go up to the restau and just wait coz maybe, the multiple badgering I did weren't enough to create a sense of urgency. As we went up, it was only then that they started preparing.. and even when we're already there, we still waited for more than 10 minutes... and the orders were not taken properly so there were errors when they served the food. My companions were already agitated and they were already showing it to the staff. I asked (trying to maintain my composure) for a reason why they're giving us a really bad service and they couldn't answer me.
At that point, I saw the stars falling from the review rate I was about to give them.
The staff were nice so I'm not really sure where the problem was, and the place was also nice, but even those weren't enough to compensate for the very bad service they gave us.

When in davao, make reservations in Chemas - an exclusive getaway in Samal Island, just around 5mins from the city. Yes, its just a five minute boat ride from the Waterfront Hotel in Sasa. It has an infinity pool, well appointed villas, dedicated butler, an artist resto, and white sand beach. It costs around 5k per night per villa, but its all worth it. I took my family here for a vacation and they loved everything about it :)

They only have few rooms, i think 10 so that means less guests :)
From airport you can ride a taxi to waterfront insular hotel then ride the boat to chemas.
Food is ok, service was good and the place is quiet.
The only downside is not much seafood on the menu
I craved for seafood when we ate at penongs.
Oh well next time will make sure to try different restos.
Its also good to try
Hagimit falls in samal island before resting here

Chema's by the Sea is a semi-private resort. The owner screens its guests for security purposes. There are few guests at a time, so there's peace and quiet.
The beachfront at Chema's is really really clean. They removed all the rocks, seaweed, and corals in their area. So what's left is fine white sand. Oh, and they also have an infinity pool by their deck!
Chema's has a huge clubhouse and garden. They have cottages ranging from humble to huge in size, and all charming, cozy, and beautifully decorated.
Only thing keeping me from giving it five stars is the food. Nothing really stellar, but not bad either.
You can go to Chema's by car by riding the barge going to Samal, or you can ride the motorboat at the Waterfront Hotel in Sasa.
