Steak for Fridate!

Its one "helluva" traffic at Edsa, my date was stuck in traffic for 2 hours from Makati to Mandaluyong. Finally, 8pm dinner @ Chops Chicago Steakhouse. My first time128522. At around 8PM, there are few diners, the place has this hotel-like ambiance and friendly-service. Elegant interiors and slightly dimmed light.

We had:
Rockefeller (P170)the starter for the day. 6 baked oysters with cheese.(no pic, sorry i forget)

Both of us had, Prime Rib Eye Steak, 10 oz. (P1,750, creekstone farms, prime grade, grain fed). I had it medium well. Tender meat, though this one has no complimentary sidings.

For sidings, i had bacon and broccoli , (P180), the veggie is good match for my steak. And sorry, let's call it a cheat day.. So does the bacon (well I thought it was bacon bits, but its not. Its the legit one)128055128055128055

Food: Enjoyed everything! my steak, tastes good, tender meat, fats in it is perfect. My sidings goes well with my steak. Oysters are perfect!
Price: Reasonable 128522

It was around 8pm and we were looking around Shang for a place to eat. And we stumbled upon Chops ;3. I ordered for Lamb128525128076, It was cooked perfectly, I can feel the herbs and spices along with the distinct taste of lamb. The service was applaudable! If only the spaces between tables were a bit farther from each other and a bit lighter ambiance, I would've given it a 5128076128076

Ribeye 21 oz - medium- just find the steak sauce with red wine - a bit off. medium well would be better option. just don t understand how it can be so different with the Greenbelt 5 outlet. oysters with four cheese. classic carbonara ( good suprise) - just sad how the waiters and staff are not well oriented with wine handling and storage. i was planning to order by the glass but i just cancelled it when they showed me the bottle. service is good.

Going around EDSA Shang Mall is as confusing as it can get! I must have burned 500 calories just looking for Chops.

Anyway, all that walking gave me a reason to binge. This was a company sponsored affair so no worries as to who will foot the bill. My choices were Pumpkin Soup, Fresh Greens with Candied Pears and Apples, and Surf and Turf.

The soup was divine, creamy and smooth with no lumps. The added oats just gave it enough pleasing texture. 128523

Salad was fresh. All greens were crunchy and juicy. Sweetness from the candied pears and apples balanced the tartness of the vinaigrette and bitterness of some greens. 128523

Surf and Turf was Sea Bass and Sirloin. I loved the Sea Bass. Skin and meat were slightly crunchy and toasted outside but soft and moist inside. No overpowering flavors just the right amount of saltiness. 128523. I wasn't too happy with the steak though. It was tender and easy to cut but I found it a little bit too peppery for my taste. The gravy tempered it some but somehow it really did not meet my expectations. 128546

To cleanse the palate, we had a nice (3 bottles to be precise 128536) Merlot so conversations flowed a plenty and laughter was loud but not boisterous.

Enjoyable dining experience overall. 128077🏻

Liked this place. When you say Medium, it arrives Medium. The Cheddar Baked Potato alone is a sole reason to go back. Best for me is still Alfredo's. But in the Ortigas area, this is a keeper.

This will always be my steak place! Ordered wagyu and it did not disappoint. Yet too bad my stomach couldnt handle too much 128517 their truffle is fine but I think they only use truffle oil for that. Prepare to shell out money here for a nice dinner 128513

This is my second visit here. the first time I tried it here, I was happy with the sidings and appetizers but not with the steak itself. I decided to give it a second chance.

I had the Bone Marrow (Php295.00) and Baked Rockefeller Oysters (Php345.00) for appetizers. I loved the bone marrow the first time I tried it. I still love it. It's good for sharing (for 2) as you cannot really finish it on your own due to the richness of the bone marrow. You can eat it even without the bread but you do run the risk of getting dizzy afterward if you eat too much. I am satisfied with the taste for its price.

The oysters were okay. They were fresh and not overcooked. My boyfriend loved then but the oysters on their own, without the cheese on top, tasted a little bland. I thought it could use some salt but overall it was okay. We got 6 pieces of Oysters for that order. It was okay.

For our sidings, we had the mac and cheese and the spinach cream cauldron. Mac and Cheese was supposed to be with truffle. I doubt if there was truffle there, or maybe there was, as toppings(?) In any case, it was okay. The spinach though was delicious. The cream is not too cheesy and it doesn't overpower the taste of the spinach. It is also served in a little cauldron, so cute!

For my steak, I ordered the CAB Rib Eye (Php1250.00). The first time I ate here, I had the Rib Eye too. It was okay. I've heard my friends compliment the steak here, in that it was cooked well and that it melted in the mouth. I thought the meat was not hat soft the first time I tried it. And I hated that there were alot of elastin (rubber band like tissue in the meat). It's bad enough that there were a lot of them, it's worse that these are unchewable. In my experience, I rarely see and/ or have to struggle with trying to chew elastin in steaks. I find it curious why Chops' meat has lots of these. I also asked for medium, but the steak came out rare. So I had to return it to be cooked some more. After it was cooked properly, I had yo struggle with the elastin, as I did the first time I ate there. The meat was not that tender nor that juicy for me. . Chops' steaks are too expensive for its actual quality and taste. It's almost like eating at Alfredo's but with (a little) thicker meat. The "tenderness" of meat is just a little better than house of mini's. I don't get why they say the meat is so soft and so good. Overall, it was okay. I'd still choose Melo's for steaks though.

I would go back here, not for the steak but for the Sidings and the bone marrow.

3 or 4 stars? Mmm, the steak was amazing ... 4 stars. Perfectly cooked and delicious. Everything else was 2 stars ... The mashed potato was cold (sent back for reheating), the mac&cheese seemed to be made with that (disgusting synthetic) Velveeta cheese although the kitchen said it wasn't. The service was patchy and for their prices (we had the shared 21 ounce steak for nearly PHP5,000) we expected a smother experience. Maybe they just need to get busier so the staff can get into their groove.

Their Apple and Arugula Salad was the best! But their stake we're kinda disappointing... They tend to over cook so adjust your doneness as they take your orders... The Prawn Society wasn't consistently tasting as I've tasted it before so I was kinda disappointed with the pasta too...

Steak lovers and Carnivores, gather yee round. Their menu is filled with the finest meat selections cooked to your liking. You can also choose your sauce instead of house Mushroom gravy, and sidings that include Baked Potato, Rice, Broccoli, etc. I've been here twice and I ordered the same Cab Tenderloin- Well done. Now, I know people say it shouldn't be cooked that way but It's my food so, whatever. The Tenderloin was true to its name and was flavorful- as it should (for P1500). This isn't the best place for dessert, although they do have a few selections. Overall, a good place to dine at if you're a meat lover (unlike me).

Warning. Steaks may trigger Acute Stendhal syndrome, a rare psychosomatic disorder that's more commonly associated with individuals viewing art. Ridiculous? Perhaps. But so is the size, price, and what goes on in your mouth/mind/body when you take a bite. Just, forget everything else.

21 oz cab medium - apple green salad. chardonay. gbelt 5 branch has better service. and i have to say different quality also. not good selection of wines . for greenbelt 5, barcino is located in the basement ( corkage is 500 pesos for chops) not bad vs terry's selection corkage fee at 1500 pesos.

I'm quite obssessive with my steak. I have memories of steaks past that when I simply recall the moment my mouth is suddenly filled with flavors from the first bite. The whole sensation fills me sending tingles everywhere. I can recall the feeling of having a memorable steak even after years of having it the first time. Now that's what a great steak is all about. Yes, we're still talking about steak here. What were you thinking??

Chops' CAB 21oz didnt give me that sensation. In fact, I've already quite forgotten how it was like. I remember that it was good when I had it. But nothing lasting. In other words, compared to the other steaks available in the Metro, this is just okay. It won't blow you away but it cuts the deal for good steak at that moment you're there.

Oh btw, I loved loved loved their gravy! I'm guessing it's red wine gravy and it really brought out the meat's flavor :) awesome saue!

Extremely underwhelming experience. Bread was cold and seemed bordering stale. I ordered the Portobello steak but the mushroom was so tiny for a freaking portobello, it was bland too. My cousins ordered their steak but the server served a 10oz steak instead of the 20oz. that was ordered. The biggest disappointment was the French onion soup. Tiny, bland, and barely had any mozzarella (as if French onion soup is difficult to make!) Everything was overpriced. Service was slow and servers were inattentive. Suffice to say, my cousins and i will never ever eat there again. Worst resto I've tried in the new wing of Shang.
