oh yes.. those are 3 sets of churros! 128540
the love for churros goes on, hahahah
from the name itself, this cafe serves 1 of the best churros i ever tasted in town.
they have 2 dips to choose from, chocolate and caramel.., (i can't recommend 1 over the other because i just love 'em both)
the cafe serves coffee and sandwiches for an affordable price (100-200.. not bad, right?)
most of the people stay here to read/study because of the quiet and cozy ambiance :)

My first class finished early, so I got 3 more hours to spend until my next class starts and I can't find my friends plus I have nowhere to go. Good thing Cioccolata is just a few steps away from my school. It is located in the grounds of Bayleaf Hotel.

I always find this cafe cozy despite of its small and quite narrow space. I'm amused with its interior and great lighting — very relaxing.

They serve different sandwiches, frappes, coffees, pizzas, cupcakes, muffins and many more pastries. All with affordable and reasonable prices.

My favorite food here is their Churros with Cacao Dip (100php). Light and delicious! Mmmm yum! 128523 Also, I love their Irish Cream Mocha Frappe (120-150php, cant exactly remember), it awakens my sleepy and tired body.

Their croissant, cookies and cupcakes are delicious, too! 128077🏼

Great service and staffs are approachable and friendly. 128522

Found in the heart of what seems to be the only place where remnants of the Spanish colonization are still very much alive, Cioccolata at Bayleaf, Intramuros offers large servings of churros with rich, dark chocolate at a reasonable price. The place not only puts premium on great churros, but a few other desserts and snacks as well. Their cupcakes are moist with a generous amount of icing while their pizzas, which are also available in Bayleaf's restaurant, 9 Spoons, is equally great. What makes dining here even better is the quiet escape from the hustle and bustle of the metro. Not many people are aware of the place so you don't have to worry about long lines or waiting for a vacant table. The service is on point too - fast and convenient. If you've got the time, be sure to explore and enjoy the walled city with some churros to go! #12Days

Despite its location close to my school, I have never really frequented this cafe. That's why I was a bit taken aback by the new items in the menu and the price difference.

I ordered a White Chocolate Affogato coffee smoothie (P150) for myself and wasn't really impressed by it. I don't know why I am reminded of eating a marshmallow while tasting the whipped cream. Halfway through finishing my drink, I wasn't really tasting the 'espresso' since it felt like the whipped cream really overpowered the drink. The chocolate bits were not too bad, save for the fact that they could have had a larger straw to prevent the chocolate chips from getting stuck in it.

My friend opted for the Churros with a caramel dip (now at P100) since he says theirs is not too oily. Though skeptical of his choice, I thought I might as well try it. It was noticeably smaller despite the price increase, as you can see in the picture. By the time we got to eat the first piece, we realized we won't be able to finish the rest of it since it was too oily. Moreover, it's texture made me feel like I was eating shards of glass (that was the first thing that came into my mind, really) since it had a hard crunchiness to it. The only that I enjoyed was the caramel dip.

I still don't really get what the fuss is all about.

You know how McDonald branches seem to magically appear because you swear to god you don't remember it being built, that's how I see the Bayleaf Hotel. Yes, the big building that it is, didn't register to my radar until few months ago when after so many years I found myself walking within the walls of Intramuros again. Yes, I just told you the lengthy version of, "I haven't been to Intramuros for quite a while now," teehee!
Bayleaf is owned by the Laurels, the same folks who founded my Alma Mater, Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU). Aside from hotel accommodation, it has three food establishments worth checking out: 9 Spoons, Sky Deck View Bar, and Cioccolata Churros Cafe.

My friend and I recently went to Cioccolata Churros Cafe. It has two entrances, the one facing Muralla street, and the one from Victoria street. From Muralla entrance, the first thing you will see is the bar, particularly this glass shelves for their pastries.

The picture below shows the view from the Victoria St. entrance. As you can see the place is fairly lit, with dark brown wooden tables and chairs and beige-colored walls.

Some parts of the walls were covered with bricks, adorned by interesting paintings. The picture below shows where they keep their newspapers.

Cioccolata has a wide selection of pastries and bread. This, I think, is their advantage over other coffee shops that I'd been to. They got cinnamon rolls, cakes, danish bread, sandwiches, etc. Indeed, there were a lot to choose from and some of them don't even cost that much.

First thing I got was the Brazo Cups (PHP35). I thought it was a cupcake, or that the meringue part would just be on the surface, wrong. It was meringue down to the bottom. It was good not to mention cute.

For drinks, I had Dulce de Leche (PHP105.73), which was a bit of a letdown. As my friend puts it, it tasted like instant coffee only it was served cold and had cream on top.

Bon Bon (PHP30) is pandesal shaped like a mushroom. It comes in three flavors; tuna, ham and cheese, and corned beef. It is neither bad nor inexpensive. Taking the words of my friend, "pwede na."

It'd be a crime if you go to this place without trying their specialty, Churros, a fried-dough pastry that is of Spanish origin. We had their Original flavor (PHP83.70) with cocoa sauce. Other variations include Dusted (with cinnamon and sugar), Coffee Caramel, and Double Dip (with a scoop of vanilla ice cream).

I give it to Cioccolata for making great-tasting churros. They were soft, not too oily, and tasty even without the chocolate sauce. They were a bit thin but I didn't really mind as it made eating easier.

Cioccolata is a good alternative to popular coffee shops. Nice interior, decent food, and it is not too busy with the crowd. WiFi is available for PHP100 per hour.

I just have a little concern though. See, the barista call the customers to the bar to get the drinks (just like at Starbucks) but when two foreigners entered the cafe, their drinks were served on their table. I have no problem getting my drinks from the counter, I just wish the system will hold true to all of their customers.

Anyway, I let it pass since overall, the experience at Cioccolata was good. Indeed, it will be one of the good places to visit when you happen to be in Intramuros.

I keep coming back for their churros because it's really good! This time, I've tried a different dip (caramel) and their braso de mercedes cupcake. 128077

To end my Intramuros adventure, I've tried this cafe/pastry shop just outside The Bayleaf Hotel. Ordered Churros with Spanish Chocolate Dip and Pan Au Chocolat (A Viennoiserie (Yeast-leavened dough) Sweet roll with chocolate drizzled on top).

Their freshly made Churros and Pan Au Chocolat is soooo good! Next time I will try their coffee and other pastries. 128525

Spent my waiting time here before the start of our group's focus group discussion in this pretty hotel in Intramuros. Place is adorned with wooden chairs and tables only and mostly populated by students of nearby schools. You can see the hustle and bustle on Muralla street with the clear and wide windows. There is no music playing all you could hear are the talk and whispers of their customers. I got myself Irish mocca cream frappe, they have it only one size. Would liked to have the churros their specialty but I'd be having my dinner soon so I passed on this. When you are in this place or nearby you could have some respite in this quaint cafe for some drink and snacks. I didn't ask if they still serve Bayleaf's vaunted Pudding ensaymada. Maybe when I come back soon. 128512

Very lovely, freshly fried churros for p70 (or 140 with coffee), comes with chocolate or caramel sauce. The chocolate sauce had a slightly goopy texture -- I think because of the freezing cold aircon, it got stickier and stickier -- but it tasted fine. My friend ordered a slice of pepperoni pizza and said it was a tasty value buy at p65.
My only gripe with the place was the bathroom door. It has a giant frosted glass panel in the middle, but the "frost" is not opaque enough. I was surprised to clearly see someone on the other side while I was in there! Awkward! But in fairness, the guy at the door was rude for standing so close when there was plenty of room in the hall to wait his turn and give me some privacy.

We have already established my lack in food styling / photography skills. I was hoping for a kutsinta with yema when I was in intramuros but this cute little cafe caught my eye. The ambience of the place was very chill and its a great place to hangout after long walks in the old Manila scene.

These babies are only 95 PHP but there are two orders in the photo. The chocolate dip was not that impressive though. Lacks a bit of flavour.

And i'm so back to one of my favourite places!

It has been a while since I last visited this place because I was sooo busy with school.

I was kinda surprised because the menu board improved with new additions.
I tried the new Peanut Banana smoothie which I super liked it. Just the right amount of peanut spread and banana. Im now a fan of this drink lol128076

I cant wait to try the pizza on my next visit.

Aaaaaah. This place has been heaven for me for this term(4th term in our school, Mapúa Institute of Technology) since I have long vacant hours and just a 5-minute (or less) walk from our school.

Place:
It is just below the Bayleaf Hotel. The place is not so big. The ambiance is good. They play instrumental music that is soooo relaxing and perfect for people who love to read or for people studying. The comfort room really deserves to be called "COMFORT room".

Beverages:
Having said that this place is my 'tambayan' or 'killing-time-place', I have tried almost half of their beverage selection. From coffee smoothies, iced coffees, slush, smoothies, to fine tea selection. Every beverage i have tried was really good. The price is just right because of the quality of taste. It ranges from 75php(?) to 130php.

Foods:
Okay. I havent tried any sandwich yet. But i tried Corned beef bon bons, stix(all of them), churros, banana chocolate chip cake and some others i cannot recall. I didnt like the bonbons because it werent hot. The stix are sweet, the cake slice too. The churros is dipped in chocolate, it's yummy too.
I find the food price kinda expensive.

Here are my faves for each kind:
Stix (treats)
Nutty white chocolate (coffee smoothie)
Latte macchiato (coffee)
Caramel macchiato (iced coffee)
Fragrant jasmine tea (fine tea selection)

So there goes my second review. :)

XOXO

While waiting for my sister's class to finish, I've been staying here. Stayed here for two consecutive Tuesdays and these are what I've ordered:

127865flamango(110Php)
- (pictured above) this is under their slushy drinks. It's made with fruit concentrates, syrups and the like. I thought it tasted like an expensive slurpee. I suggest you skip this.

127861 perfect Ceylon tea(80Php)
- your average Ceylon tea. You can get this hot or cold (additional 10Php) and with simple syrup, flavored syrup (additional cost) or without any.

127851 banana chocolate chip cake (55Php)
-(pictured above) banana bread with chocolate pieces on top. I loved this and i will definitely get it again. The banana bread was moist, chocolate on top tasted really good and not too sweet.

127838 ham and cheese bon-bons(30Php/3pcs.)
-this is like a mini pandesal filled with bits of ham and cheese. It would've been great if i actually got to eat the ham. The ham was very hard to chew.

127838cinnamon pretzel(35Php)
-i was curious about this because it's pretty cheap for its size. Its size is close to that of Auntie Anne's. Contrary to Auntie Anne's, Cioccolata's pretzel is really soft and chewy. It's served with a generous drizzle of caramel(?) syrup. I think they should omit the syrup. It made the pretzel become unbearably sweet and it overpowered the cinnamon flavor.

I just found out that they have wi-fi but it's not for free. If i remember correctly, they charge 100php/hour.

Edit: not sure if the wi-fi is charged per hour 128586

Ordered an iced caramel macchiato and a pressed tuna sandwich. The macchiato was too sweet for me and the tuna sandwich tasted ok. It's something i could make at home so, for me, it wasn't worth my 120php.

I've been here quite a few times already since it's near my school. The place is well air-conditioned which makes it a great place to chill in, especially with the intense heat that we're experiencing. Though I don't go here frequently. I think their food and drinks are pretty pricey and there isn't much variety to what they offer.

Unique and awesome sweet treats of Ensaymada Pudding, Brazo Cups, and Churros with Coffee Caramel Sauce from Bayleaf Hotel's Cioccolata Churros Cafe. We loved their twist on usual tea time/snack time sweets.

Bayleaf Hotel is the upscale hotel located within the historic walled city of Intramuros. The Cioccolata Churros Cafe is their in-house cafe. It is a small rustic cafe. Staffed by pastry chefs garbed in chef's white. Clean, cozy, with good airconditioning AND apparently a good place for some awesome sweet treats. They likewise offer a good selection of sandwiches, coffee and coffee preps, teas, and juices.

This visit was a pitstop while doing our early Visita Iglesia around the churches /basilicas in the area on a Monday afternoon.

Brazo Cups :their unique take on the traditional Brazo de Mercedes. Baked in Cupcake wax holders, we loved the fluffy , silky , light merengue and buttery custard filling. Sweet as these treats were, the sugar level was perfect without the level of inducing a sugar coma. The buttery custard filling had a bit of salty kick that perhaps nicely balanced the sweetness level of this creamy, fluffy, velvety pastry. Serving size is like a big cupcake, the price? Unbelievably affordable for just php 35 a pop.

Coffee Caramel Churros : chewy, spongey, delicate churros served with a delicious , velvety , buttery coffee caramel sauce. Again we loved their take on the usual churros. Served with a separate siding of cinnamon-sugar enabling diners to choose whether or not to further spice up this confectionary. Five pieces of freshly piped and fried churros with the generous serving of sinfully good dipping sauce for a mere Php 95!

Ensaymada Pudding : who would have thought that Ensaymada would make a delicious Bread and Butter pudding base? Oh boy, we loved their unique twist to this pastry. A whole ensaymada, top half of which was nicely spongey and chewy while the bottom drenched nicely in a sweet milk-butter goo. There also seemed to be a nice buttery custard filling. Served with a nice sweet-salty-buttery caramel sauce. It was decadently good from the texture, flavors, and right level of sweetness and richness. And this for just Php 110? Unbelievable!

We paired our sweets with some of their coffee preps and beverages. Again, their offerings did not disappoint. Their Tsokolate Tablea Eh was nicely thick, nutty, chocolatey, with a nice slight salty kick. Their Latte Macchiato was likewise good too. Excellent with the decadent pastries that we enjoyed.

The hotel is right beside the LPU Culinary Institute. Apparently, Cioccolata Cafe is staffed by LPU's students. Awesome pastry chefs in the making!

For the taste, uniqueness, AND price (awesome hotel pastries this affordable?!), definitely 5 stars. If only this hotel was closer to my home. For sure, I would be coming back on a weekend (lesser traffic) to feast again on their decadent sweet treats.

Highly recommended to sweet tooth foodies looking for unique and delicious sweet treats.
