Old school restaurant but food is still quite good

Faves are
The croquettas, sizzling sisig, paella and cochinillo
You can't say no to their halo halo too!

This bread pudding is so good, it deserved a separate review! I actually forgot that I haven't reviewed the place yet if not for Peanut D looking for my review.

This was like almost 2 months ago so please forgive me if this isn't as accurate as it should be 128514

We had dinner here for my dad's birthday, and after stuffing ourselves with mains (we couldn't even eat the paella anymore), we got desserts!

I am a huge fan of bread pudding, and I've heard great raves about this! I've had bread pudding only in buffets, so ala mode option is usually not available unless you do it your own.

What I like about this is the perfect contrast of the warm pudding and the ice cream. The caramel sauce was good too, except I remember it tasting a bit burnt, and that there was too much caramel sauce that you couldn't taste much of the pudding itself. 128533

But despite that, it's still worth coming back for!!! 128525

Sugod na Peanut D!!! 128514

I can't recall all that we had that night

Salad .... Delicately prepared.

Sizzling Sisig .... Was like the crunchy longanisa na
hubad.. Very flavorful

Sizzling Gambas .... Plump fresh prawn ... Served really sizzling!

Paella .... Tasty & authentic & they didn't scrimp on the ingredients & seafood.

Cuchinillo ..... crispy delight of succulent fork tender meat...

we really had a great meal & time then & service was excellent by seasoned waitstaff.

The service for us was impeccable.

Bday of a friend & we're a group of about 30... Place was packed on a Saturday & I got there late coz of parking.

the croquettes were light and subtly flavoured.
The chorizo was great, everyone loved the gambas. The beef bone marrow was succulent, perfectly balanced and just plain delicious.
My friend ordered a large selection of tapas (Spanish and Philippine dishes) & mains from steak, pork & seafood...and all were, without exception, excellent. Good wine list, excellent service and a pleasant ambiance.

All in all, a most delicious meal I would be happy to repeat soon

I craved for Fabada for a whole week. Yes, I crave for legumes. Weird. Good thing there's El Cirkulo which is along Pasay Rd. Near Greenbelt.

I think Greenbelt needs more Spanish restaurants. (Wala lang)

Okay, so I was kinda disappointed not to see Fabada on the menu. I couldn't believe it i had to ask. Haha! Apparently it's an off the menu dish and takes 30 mins to prepare. Thank God, my tummy said. 128591

So while waiting, we ordered Jamon Serrano and Sangria. The Jamon is really authentic. Perfectly sliced, smooth and just salty enough. Served with tomato-garlic spread. The flavors blend really well.

Now, the Fabada. It's a hearty stew of white beans served with pork, morcilla and chorizo.
I really loved it. I mixed the ingredients together and enjoyed every spoonful. The meat complemented the slightly salted beans. My kinda comfort food! Worth the wait! 128077

The ambience and service is excellent. The lighting and music gives the place a romantic feel. The waiters are attentive and nice. Excellent food and service. No wonder this restaurant has been here for years. 128079

What we ordered:
Conchinillo- tender and juicy meat, skin was crispy!
Gambas- right amount of spice, fresh and flavorful
Cuttlefish- incredibly chewy, worst dish of the day
Croquettas- disappointing, no hint of the ham at all
Beef belly- meat was tough!
Plus other forgettable dishes...
Bad day perhaps?

Dear cochinillo,

I love you. You put other pork dishes to shame. I have dreams about your crunchy, salty skin and succulent meat. I will come back for you again, sooner than you think.

For those that have looked to impress upon people that there are extraordinary flavors to be experienced in Manila, Cirkulo has long been their bastion. For many years, no other restaurant ever came close to delivering the sort of rich, succulent flavors Chef Gamboa serves from his kitchen on Pasay Road.

From his Foie Gras done three ways, Bone Marrow, Lamb Short Ribs, Beef Belly, and Sisig, to his Chocolate Truffle Cake and Baked Alaska, one can only feel like royalty when eating such rich, indulgent food. These are the kind of dishes you partake in to celebrate a magnificent triumph, welcome home a prodigal son, or host a fabulous farewell. From start to finish, each course leaves you reveling in delight. Even the warm bread served before the start of the meal is memorable in its marvelous execution.

Apart from the delectable fare, the hospitality at Cirkulo is also to be commended. Malu Gamboa and her waitstaff exemplify the warmth and kindness one should expect when dining away from home. All too eager to serve you, the cheerful and accommodating attitude of the people stewarding Cirkulo only further adds to the wonderful dining experience. It is in this way that they have concocted a comfortable, welcoming, familiar space that many can't help but keep coming back to.

I have been going to Cirkulo for years, and the experiences I enjoy there only seem to get better and better. If any place deserved to be truly loved, this is certainly one of them.

After light meal, I met up with my cousin who was having a late lunch at Cirkulo. When I saw what she ordered, I couldn't possibly pass up on a second lunch! Pulpo Gallego and 28 day dry aged US rib-eye - yes, please! The octopus (and potato) were perfectly boiled and seasoned. It wasn't chewy or rubbery at all. The steak was the same way, cooked to a perfect medium rare (lousy photo). It doesn't even need the bernaise sauce that goes with it - instead, we use it for the veggies.

The service was great. They close the kitchen at 2:30pm but they let us order dessert and coffee at 3pm. No comment on dessert because I was too full.

An old, reliable restaurant that delivers every single time!

A place with nearly all 5 stars? Is it possible? That's what I was questioning when I first came across this place. I had to try it out.

I ordered their beef belly. Served with a side of veggies, mushrooms, onions etc. This beef is so tender. Holy crap. No knife needed.

The strangest thing though: take a bite and you don't taste many flavors. I'd almost describe it as bland. But somehow it's just so damn good. Flavorless, yet one of the most delicious beef dishes I've ever had. What the heck.

I also tried their bread pudding. Also very very good.

What makes this place even better is the service. The waiters are extremely friendly, the owner is walking around taking care of y'all, and even the chef will pop out and make an appearance. It's a very comforting experience.

So while it may be rare to have a place with such a high rating, I can say they truly deserve it. 128077

The service here is top-notch. From the guard helping you park in the parking garage beneath it to the servers inside the restaurant.

As for the food. I ordered the Steak Frites. It's a 300g seared Snake River Farms ribeye with Thyme salt, rosemary shoestring potatoes, and roasted vegetables.

I've been curious to try a Snake River Farms steak here. It's known as "American Kobe Beef". If you're not familiar with them, let me plagiarize from their website:

"Snake River Farms is a family-owned business, which began over a decade ago with a small herd of Wagyu cattle from the Kobe region of Japan. The Wagyu bulls were crossed with premium American Black Angus to form a proprietary herd that has developed into one of the finest groups of Wagyu/Angus cross cattle in the U.S. Often referred to as American Kobe Beef, this unique breed was bred specifically to deliver the finest eating quality. Every step in the production process is strictly controlled to ensure that this level of distinction is achieved."

The...steak...was…divine.

No other way to describe it aside from tender...juicy...and flavorful.

At P1595, it's not cheap but compared to steak prices of other places, it's well worth the price. Especially considering the ambiance and service that comes along with it.

I’m sorry but this place really deserves 5 stars.

I remember reading the looloo newsletter (do you guys read that?) feature on this place. A place with more than 10 reviews and all 5 stars??? That can’t be. But then EJ D told me Cirkulo is a really really good place. Plus I also read Atel V's review for this one.

I still had my doubts but decided it should go on my must-try looloo list. (They now have 1 4-star review I think hehe. Di na perfect.)

Finally had the chance to try this place last Sunday and wow.

First of all, the place looks really nice – fancy, even. The staff? Super friendly. I think I saw Chef J Gamboa and his sister here and they were so hands-on. I saw them even picking up pieces of food that fell on the floor and helping clean the tables. That’s genuine care right there. I felt like I was a guest at someone’s house… Except I had to pay. Haha.

I ordered their sisig for Php 495 (I was told almost all the tables that night had sisig also) and partnered it with their paella (Php 745). The paella was okay but the sisig was FANTASTIC. It was spicy but not too spicy, crispy but not too crispy, basta! It was perfect. I loved it and finished it. All by myself!

The paella is good for 2-3 people. The sisig is under their appetizers section so if you don't turn it into ulam like I did, it may be enough for 2 people.

For dessert, I ordered their Baked Alaska (that's the photo I attached). Chocolate cake base, green tea ice crea and Italian meringue for Php 265. This one I didn’t really like but that’s what I get for being "adventurous." So I ended up eating my friend’s Bread Pudding. Huhuhu. It was so good that I kind of wanted to order another one for myself. 128055 Highly recommended for dessert lovers out there!

I will be back and hopefully my parents will also love it here! 128522

Am not really a fan of lengua, it's usually something i eat out of courtesy rather than pleasure.

The lengua in Cirkulo is a different story.

so different that the restau deserves 5 stars straightaway.

The meat was so tender, thick, and succulent, none of the usual thin slices you get from buffets. The sauce was likewise thick, its flavor not too strong as to stifle the texture and natural juice of the meat. For the first time, lengua became the highlight of my meal. Not even the Paella Valenciana could top off the experience, and that's saying a lot since am a huge paella fan.

The rest of the main dish (mushroom soup, fish, paella) was okay, good but nothing as remarkable as the lengua. The chicken was too salty, though. I didn't even finish the serving.

As for dessert.

We ordered three kinds: the bread pudding, their truffle, and some other cake with green tea ice cream inside and topped and covered by a fountain of whipped cream and caramel sauce! All good! They are famous for the truffle, but I liked the two other desserts more because of the surprisingly good unique blend (green tea ice cream inside chocolate cake topped with cream and caramel sauce? May sound too much, but it actually works and is not too sweet). The white chocolate bread pudding was like any good ol' comfort food. I love dipping the crust in the caramel sauce.

Overall, I feel lucky to be merely a block away from such delicious food.

Always love the food here. The Slow Cooked Beef Belly & The Lamb Ribs are to die for. Also try their signature Mushroom Paella, simple but tasty.
