CoCo Ichibanya is a popular restaurant serving delicious Japanese curry rice dishes. I’ve been to many Japanese restaurants and mostly tried katsu dishes and the sashimis, but I never actually tried Japanese curry yet. So, when Norman Lester T and Cindy S tagged me along to have dinner here at CoCo Ichibanya, I got so excited because I really wanted to try it!

I was a bit late as always, so they already got my order of Chicken Katsu curry. They requested the spicy level to be at level 3, if I recall it right; and they also advised the server to add fluffy omelet for a fuller experience! I immediately love it after having a spoonful of it! It’s a bit spicy but still tolerable, at least for me. And yes, the fluffy omelet makes it even more delightful as if it’s meant to be together with the chickrn cutlet and the curry! I wasn’t expecting it to be so good that I finished almost everything!

There’s a number of curry dishes to try on the menu and I’m looking forward to trying these on my future visits!

Had dinner here one evening and I was unfortunately disappointed with the service of most of their staff.

First, upon entering the restaurant, we were welcomed with half-hearted greetings of “irasshaimase.” None of the staff looked at us when they said this. Not a big deal really, but why say this if they don’t mean it anyway? I’d rather they don’t put on effort anymore.

Next, the person who took our orders was impatient and curt, when answering our questions about their menu. For instance, my companion asked what the difference was between food item A and food item B, and the staff answered without letting her finish. I was also asked about the spice level of my order, and she impatiently pointed at the menu, to indicate the choices. Well, I highly suggest they change the format of their menu, then, if they are not willing to answer customers’ questions (as it’s currently overwhelming, at least for me).

Anyway, on to the food. I ordered the cheese hamburger with 200g of rice. I like the fact that if you ordered less amount of rice, PHP20 will be omitted from the bill. My order tasted okay, the curry was flavorful and there was ample cheese in my burger.

However, will most likely never dine here again, and am not recommending to friends. To summarize my experience here: average food, awful service.

My favorite curry house. 128517

Whenever I want to eat something good or something to make me happy, this place is always on my mind. I’ve been here countless times but my default order is their Pork Cutlet Omelet Curry (360php). For me, it’s so sulit as it has a huge portion of rice, fluffy omelet and a big serving of tonkatsu.

I used to order Extra Hot (level 3) but I got used to it already. So I tried Crazy Hot aka their spiciest (level 5). It’s actually goooood! I thought I can no longer enjoy my meal and just burn my tongue but I was wrong. I actually liked it! But of course, it’s really spicy so I think I’ll just order level 4 in my next visits para saktong chill lang. 🙂

We haf late dinner here one night. There's one at Uptown Food Hall but it was already 9:30PM so we just decided to go to the Forbestown branch since it closes late. We got the Hamburger Curry and the Beef Omelet Curry. Instead of going for default spiciness which is Mild, I asked for the Medium
Hot which I regret because it was too spicy for me. Oh well, it was still delicious. Finished everything up to the last drop. 128588🏻 (Cos palaban tayo like dat.)

This is our go-to place when we're craving for curry.

STEWED SHRIMP CURRY (P280) 127775127775127775
The curry sauce was great as usual. It was not too spicy and had a touch of sweetness to it. There was a total of 8 shrimps in the plate, it had a crunch on it indicating that it was perfectly cooked. I love shrimp and curry but unfortunately they didn't go well with each other since the curry overpowered the shrimp.

Pari-Pari Chicken Curry (P310) 127775127775127775127775
The chicken was good and was juicy but it was too small.

Tuna Salad (P100) 127775127775127775127775127775
The salad was the best part our dinner. It consists of tuna, tomatoes, cucumber, lettuce, corn, red cabbage, and the sesame dressing. The vegetables were crunchy, the tuna was a bit dry but still flavourful.

Overall it was good. Will definitely come back but I guess we'll just stick with their Cheese Hamburger Curry and Pork Cutlet Curry. Also, they have this Holiday Stamp Card valid until March 15.

I'd never know that I love curry if I hadn't tried Coco Ichibanya. They have mastered the perfect curry down to an art.

Coco Ichibanya in Forbestown is just a short walk from my workplace, so whenever I'd crave for curry and a heavy meal, this is my go to place. All that rice, the super soft and fluffy scrambled egg, and the amazing curry sauce is just to die for. 128525

This time I went for Chicken Cutlet Curry instead of my usual pork. And it didn't disappoint. I normally don't eat lots of rice but everytime I'm here I just could not help it! The curry sauce was very generous that the plate was drowning in it, in a good way of course! The chicken was fried to perfection, and oh my gosh the egg, the egg was sooo fluffy and soft it literally melts in your mouth.

By the time I was done eating my tummy is close to bursting. But not a single regret. It was worth it! They may be on the pricey side but it's definitely worth it for the quality (and quantity) of the food. So if you're craving for GREAT curry, this is your place! 128522

I consider Japanese curry as my comfort food and one of the best place to get this is here at Coco Ichibanya. This restaurant originated in Japan, spread across the country and literally mean "Here, Number 1 Store."

The ambiance of the store is great, well-lit and interior design is awesome. It is more sophisticated compared to their stores around the streets of Japan. The price of food is at par with other specialty stores who sells, tonkatsu or ramen.

I ordered Pork Cutlet Curry with Egg and Rice. The rice is only set to 200g and no option to add more unless ordering it ala carte. Options on spicyness can also be chosen, so make sure to select the appropriate one for you. All their offerings can also be bundled to add, a soup, mini salad, dessert and a drink. You can check the prices at the top portion of the menu.

The arrival of food is less than 20 minutes. They served the drinks followed by the mini salad, then my main meal. You can really smell the curyness (is there a term?) of the meal. The egg was perfectly placed on top of the rice and it was really Instagrammable. The pork cutlet is prepared well and perfectly cooked for me. It was crispy on the outside yet tender inside. Make sure to eat it with the curry sauce to ass some spicyness.

After eating, the 2 scoops of ice cream was served. One strawberry and one cookies and cream, with some small slices of fruits. I really love the strawberry as it has real fruits in their while the cookies and cream was just okay.

So, if you wanted to enjoy some Japanese curry, make sure to visit Coco Ichibanya and it will never fail you to enjoy this awesome dish!

Last lunch out for the year and we're having CURRY. 128563128563128563

My friend's a curry lover so she was excited to eat here. I, on the other hand, will never be a fan of curry 128529 So again, I ordered salad. One tuna salad with roasted sesame dressing, please? 128513 Their salads are not the best but for just 100 pesos, choosy pa? They have different options available. Greens with egg, tuna, fried chicken, calamari, sausage, and everything on it. 2 salad dressings are available - roasted sesame or Japanese vinaigrette. Prices are from 100-250 pesos only. Very sulit na, diba diba?! 128077🏼

Service was weird, though. I asked for the dressing to be separated. Said it twice para sure. But still, they did not separate the dressing. Asked them why and they just said "ay, nalagay na po kasi eh, picturan niyo po ba? ayusin na lang po namin". Uhm, okay?? 128563128563128563

Legit Japanese curry right here! Well to be honest, Japanese curry more or less tastes the same in any legit Japanese restaurant, but this place pulls out the stops to give you that authentic curry house experience.

The menu mostly consists of variations of what they have + curry sauce: katsu, beef, veggies, a rice omelette, seafood, etc etc. Being my first visit. I kept it basic and close to what i think the basic curry is - katsu, curry, and rice... but i also switched to the omurice variant for good measure. One kasama had her curry with oysters and veggies! All orders allow you to set the spiciness level to taste and add any combination of soup, salad, dessert, a drink, or all 4.

The pork cutlet was tender enough to cut with a spoon, it was flavorful, and with an apt amount of breading for that right crispiness. And the egg on the omurice was really fluffy! Both went really well with my spicy curry sauce! Couldnt help but add a dash of togorashi for a lil more kick hehe.

Coco Ichibanya is gonna be top of mind when my next curry craving comes along! 127835

Another first! I don’t know why but I was never a fan of curry. After my experience here, everything’s changed! Haha!

I went safe with my order and tried the Pork Cutlet Curry with mild spicy curry and 200g (smallest serving) rice. To my surprise, I actually liked it. I was even able to finish the rice! The consistency of the curry looked oily but I wasn’t able to taste that during my meal. The pork cutlet was good, too.

I think that the service in this branch can be improved too. It took some time before we got our bill which we had to request for minor changes. We also requested for an official receipt with our company details and it took them more than 10 minutes to return to us.

One night after a successful and productive meeting with the coolest society ever, @foodsocietyph (please like and follow their FB and IG accounts!!!), Reich, Ruth and I had dinner here.

Before anything else, can I just say that I never ever imagined myself eating here! Never! Why? Because CURRY. 128563128115🏼128567128566

Good thing, the place does not smell 100% curry. There's a slight hint but not too overpowering. Nagpaparamdam lang. 128518 And most importantly, non-curry items are available like SALADS. I love salads so I was happy to know that their salads are curry-free! 128513128588🏼

They have different kinds of salad - tuna, chicken, squid, corn, and egg! Prices are from 100-200 pesos only. Super sulit, diba diba!!! 128077🏼

So I tried the Tuna Salad (100). Asked our server if it's good for sharing and she answered yes, so for 100 pesos, WOW!!

But don't expect good for sharing size. Once served, you'll see why the salads were priced that way. Serving size was just right. Just the size you're supposed to expect given that you're only going to pay 100 + service charge. Enough lettuce with tomato, cucumber, and corn. But was pretty surprised with the amount of tuna added, it's the canned tuna type but I'm not complaining because they added a lot of tuna! And salad dressing was my ultimate fave: roasted sesame!! 128513

Ruth ordered the Cheesy Hamburg something which is a burger steak with gooey melted cheese inside and of course, with lots of curry. 128563 You can customize your order by choosing the level of spiciness of the curry and the amount of rice you want. Tried this and hello, curry. 128518 It was cheesy but the curry was just too much for me to appreciate/enjoy it. Sorry! 128586 And then we also tried Reich's Udon Ramen something. It was just okay. Again, you can really taste the curry. 128563

Service was good. Place is nice, clean, and spacious. 128077🏼 As much as I don't like curry, I am still looking forward to eating here again. Definitely going back for the salads! 128521

I was with The Ruths one Friday night.  We just finished a productive meeting and our stomachs are growling in unison,  screaming FOOD!

The plan was to have dinner at Manam but the line is discouraging.  We found ourselves loitering around Burgos Circle.  After x number of minutes we dediced to celebrate Friday with some good old fashioned curry.

Friday Night is Curry Night!

Curry Udon.  This marks my first time to try anything with udon in it.  I gotta admit,  ze curry swayed me (i am a lover of anything curry).  I dunno,  maybe i aint cultured enough to appreciate udon but i find the noodles too heavy (i guess i aint used to noodles on the thick side).   The curry infused broth is delicious though,  perfect for the gloomy weather.  The only beef i had is that the "spicy"  variant is not spicy at all.

Anyway,  I'll stick with the hamburger with cheese curry thingy in my next visit.

I am not a fan of curry but among the rest that I have tried this could be one of the best. Here you can customize the size of meat and the level of spiciness. I tried beef curry with rice( not just "A RICE" but a lot of rice )... Gave it a four star because I think it will be better if they could allow minimal serving of rice(hehehehe)..
