When my father asked, "Where are we eating?", my mother immediately looked at him. I know that look in her eyes. It's got "Cafe Laguna" all over! So I said, "As long as it's not Cafe Laguna!" And my mother shot her eyes back at me. Scary. I know she loves the place and she's on a mission to try everything on their menu. Don't get me wrong, their food is great, but I wasn't in the mood for Cafe Laguna. Good thing I had my sister on my side. She said, "Not Cafe Laguna again! Nakakasawa na." Hahaha!
So my mother let my sister decide, and we ended up at Coco's South Bistro.
When we entered the restaurant, I was surprised since there were only a few people dining there. The place is usually packed, especially on weekends.
We were seated at one of their couches. I noticed that some of their upholstery were showing signs of wear. Hmm.
I left the ordering to my family, and we had:
• Caesar's salad
Bacon bits, croutons, parmesan, iceberg lettuce. The lettuce was nice and crisp. The dressing was just ok, it was ordinary.
• Seafood Chowder
Creamy soup with chopped vegetables, baby shrimp, and slices of squid, served hot in a bread bowl.
The chips were old and the toppings weren't fresh. The salsa was bland. We used to order this, and it was a hit. Now, it's not as good as it used to be.
• Bacon Extra Cheeseburger Pizza
In fairness, it tasted like cheeseburger. The pizza had bits of ground meat, slices of bacon, and mozzarella cheese on top. The crust was a bit soggy though.
• Citrus Fire & Shrimp Fajita
Sizzling hot shrimps, bell peppers, and onions with a kick of heat. It just sucks that the serving was noticeably smaller than last time. At least it tasted the same. Well, maybe except for the wrap. It was better before.
• Apple Crumble
I loved this dessert.. that is, until they served us this sad-looking pastry. Why, Coco's, WHY?!
It was still frozen when it was served. You could still see ice enveloped around the chunks of apples. We had it sent back to the kitchen to have it reheated (with the ice cream removed, of course). And when it got back to us, it still tasted like it had been in the freezer for some time.
Their service has also declined considerably. Before, the waitstaff were very attentive, and they get back to you immediately. Now, it's so hard to get their attention, and they take so long to attend to your needs. And the restaurant isn't even packed!
Now I know why the place has lost customers. And that includes us.

This branch of Coco's South Bistro is my favorite. Convenient and spacious location, cozy interior, courteous staff, and most of all, consistent in their food and service.
Coco's serves one of the best and most affordable pizzas in the city. A must try is their Southwest pizza. Other mus-try bites are their fajitas, chili con carne, burritos and their apple crumble! Best of all, the prices of their food don't put a dent in your wallet!
