128149Date for Two: Cappuccino
128140Total: P300

Overall: Cutest coffee ever! You may ask the server to make any 3D latte art of your choice. Just order Cappuccino if you want it 3D. Commune is the perfect place to relax and stay. They have lots of events at the 2nd floor so best to check their page from time to time. You may also view our Cookie Shot review in an earlier post. Staffs are friendly and easy to approach. Worth visiting again again.

Value for money: Definitely worth it! Posted this in my personal instagram page and promise, the page got a flood of likes and follow requests. Yay! No one can resist these cuties! 128049128060

128149Date for Two: Cookie Shot with Milk Malted Milk Ice Cream
128140Total: P270

Overall: For days you just want to stay on a good coffee shop yet not craving for coffee, Commune is the place to be. They have lots of alternatives! Like the ones shown above, we’ve tried their Cookie Shot with Milk and Malted Milk Ice Cream. They’ve tied up with Carmen’s Best to supply their ice cream so no doubt, we just had the best ice cream experience. One of us love Maltesers to death! And having it in an ice cream is a dream come true. Their cookie shot is good too, the milk is just enough to finish the entire cookie. Thumbs up to this concept! Hope the milk is unlimited though haha!

Value for money: Cookie Shot is a bit expensive, maybe worth it if with unlimited refill (or few refills) of milk. Ice cream is soooo worth it! (For Maltesers lovers)

After substantially finishing work piled up for months, I thought it was finally time to catch up with my friends (and looloo). So one Saturday, we planned to have brunch at Bean and Yolk but it was closed (apparently, for quite some time already). Turns out commune was just around the corner and I’ve always wanted to give it a try.

As we entered, a modern black and white café with wooden accents welcomed us. I really appreciated the big windows that let the natural light brighten the room. Place was a little undone but relaxing. In the middle of everything is the counter where the baristas showcase their expertise – making 3D coffee.

I said brunch but it was already past noon when we got there and I was famished. I played safe and opted for the classics.

We started with | Croque Madame which is just a sandwich toast with ham and cheese, béchamel and fried egg. It’s good – I liked the cheese they used but I would have preferred the bread to be a bit more toasted. Then came the | Grilled Cheese which is just four cheese in buttered brioche. It came along with a sweetened tomato mash that I think paired really well with the sandwich itself.  On a separate note, my friend actually thought otherwise. The sauce seemed to overpower the grilled cheese because the cheese flavor was not as strong as expected.

To cleanse everything, I ordered a cup of | Cappuccino – with 3D art.  I don’t know if I should even drink it. It’s just too cute! But eventually, I forced myself to drown the kitty staring at me with a teaspoon of sugar 128563

Worth a try? Yes. I really loved the 3D art 128149
Worth a return? Hmm.  Maybe just for coffee and the ambiance.  Great place to catch up with a friend over coffee.  The place seems ideal for work too if you want a quiet place natural lit by the sun.

It was Holy Saturday and I thought it was a good time to head out to Poblacion and try one of the cafes on my must-visit list. On my way there, I passed by Commune and I thought, “Wait a minute, Commune? Is this a new branch?” Years ago, I went to Commune in Salcedo Village. I didn’t hear about a new branch in Polaris because apparently, I’ve been living under the rock (I googled and found this is not a new branch; they moved to Polaris, Makati is what happened).

Anyway, so I went to the cafe I’ve been meaning to visit and though it was open, it is only the bar that is operating. I am deliberately not mentioning the name of said cafe + bar because it’s not the subject of this review.

There is another cafe in my list and I went out to find it next. Google map in hand, I let it led me to the next cafe only to be disappointed because this one is closed. Bummer. I was clearly not winning that day. Then I remembered Commune, I saw that it was opened. The reason I didn’t go there earlier is because I tried it before. I was really gunning for the never-been-tried-before cafes but since I was having no luck, I decided to just go ahead and visit Commune. I was already within the area anyway.

There are 2 storeys but I was curious enough (another way of saying I got lazy) to check out the second floor. If I remember it correctly, the old Commune has a garden theme going for it, this one though has adopted the common industrialized, earth tones, artsy theme most cafes nowadays are known for. I took the seat by the window, a barista has immediately approached me with the menu. The prices of food and drinks here are on the slightly expensive side that I almost didn’t want to order (#kuripot). After much dilly dallying, I ordered the sun-dried tomato pasta and a cup of coffee.

While waiting for my order, I tried to play with a cat that was roaming freely in the cafe. It is obviously a pet in the cafe and I wanted to pet it but it seemed to be not in the mood as indicated by its meows of protest and threatening gestures. Whenever I tried to reach down to it, it would raise up its paws to ward me off. It successfully scratched me on my right hand, its claws digging into my skin, drawing out blood. It was just a scratch, nothing serious, but it did stop me from my lame attempts to bond with this cat who clearly wanted none of it. So I stepped back and left it alone, all the while thinking if I should get me an anti rabies vaccine. Just to know for sure, I immediately messaged one of my friends who owns cats. She said that since they are letting the cat freely inside the cafe where it will inevitably come across people, the cat has been vaccinated for sure. She has a point.

I’m not good with cats, it probably was just having a bad day. But I would recommend leaving it alone.

My order came and I ate my pasta, which was good but not impressive. I wish they used spaghetti instead of penne pasta. I like that they put the coffee in a big mug even when I ordered a regular. I spotted another customer who had the big cup and man it was huge.

I spent a few hours there, finishing coffee, watching a Korean drama, and hoping that the other customers would go away so I could take some photos.

As with the interiors, I do like this new Commune better.

Out for a training in Poblacion and found myself at the very comfort of Commune. Haven't visited the place since 2016 and it has changed a lot!! The last time I visited they were new at Poblacion with the owners not sure on how to decorate everything and the ground floor is jammed. But now, great interiors plus an efficient free Smart Wifi and a service charge. So yeah, things sure has changed.

But luckily one thing that's been pretty consistent since day 1 is their coffee. I had their cappuccino that's perfect for their 3D latte. I requested for a dog cause who knows it might just be lucky. Haha. The coffee is subtle in flavor. Nothing too strong nor sweet. I also had their chocolate chip sea salt cookie and it's yum! Chewy and moist, exactly the way I like it.

Overall, it was another great visit at Commune. I really liked this long table at the 1st floor. Very cozy. And will definitely comeback for their pasta and rice meals next time.

A quiet Sunday breakfast of Commune Blend and pandesal with cream cheese, sundried tomato, and pesto. A filling and hearty meal for only 225php (exclusive of SC). Since the city is basically a ghost town especially on Sundays, I’ve taken a habit on spending it here to catch up on some reading or work back logs. Expect a totally different vibe and crowd during the weekdays, though.

Good coffee, warm ambiance, and nice location. That’s Commune.

I went here with Cindy S one morning for breakfast. For coffee, we had their Cappuccino with 3D latte art. I liked the taste of their coffee, it’s strong and not sweet. They gave us sweetener, just in case, which I think is muscuvado sugar. The 3D art was too cute! I didn’t want to drink the coffee because I wanted to keep it as cute as it is the whole time. 128517

We finally got to try Commune! Their coffee really has a strong kick so better add their syrup to get the right taste. 128521 I ordered their Iced Toddy which is an 18 hour cold brew with Milk for 145php for the regular size and the other coffee in the pic is Café Mocha for 138php for the regular size.

Tip: ask the Barista to put an art into your coffee and they said the 3d art is applicable to the Cappuccino coffee. 9786

The rise of interest in coffee has reached its highest point today. People’s preference and fascination to coffee has continued to upgrade year after year. Thanks to spots like Commune, a third wave coffee stop offering specialized beans and other processes of serving our favorite warm beverage.

Have you heard of the form aeropress or v60? Come and experience the difference of these two from aroma, texture and overall taste.

It was my first time here last week. Thanks to BigDish, I got to do more than sip, I also had a feast of their unique offerings. Commune serves primarily pasta, salads, paninis and rice toppings, on top of coffee and its partner sweets.

For savory dishes my foodie friends and I got to down their Pork Longanissa filled pasta. It also had fresh mushroom, tomatoes in bavette pasta, a narrower version of tagliatelle. I found this a decent grub, could be better with more complex spices maybe.

A classic Grilled Cheese containing 4 types and buttery brioche was something we shared next. This one is comfort food personified, more so if you have love dairy. I suggest having the staff serving it a bit more toasted for a nice crunchy bite.

For my coffee I got bold and dark single blend, 100% arabica via v60, a pour over method. I got some coco sugar to extract more sweetness from its beans. I was able to pair this with Cookie Dough with Reese Peanut Butter Cups cake, a super rich piece of sweet and delicious dessert.

It’s time to commune, to get together and love food together. Experience it here, have a chill. This is located at the heart of Poblacion, Makati.

Avoid the pandesal. Hmm, too simple and overpriced. Best to just stick with the grilled cheese sandwich. One of the best, imo! 💯 The bread is toasted just right making it kind of toasted/crunchy but still soft. The cheesiness is just right as well. 128521 Or try the peanut butter banana w guava jelly sandwich. It's simple yet filling and yummy. Plus you get fresh watermelon on the side! 127817127817

Visited the place after having breakfast at the weekend market with friends. It was my first time to visit Commune so I just ordered a Cappuccino.

The bear was so cute I almost did not want to drink it. Lol. Although the presentation was definitely a winner, the taste was just OK. 9749️ I would probably return to try out their food.

I've been to Commune several times already but it's my first time to try most of the items we had during this visit. Also, it was my first time to see the whole place. The second floor is big and good for small events. Trivia: you can rent the second floor and the rent?? Depends with your budget. And for "artists", you can rent the place for FREE!! Yas!! I really admire how Commune values the community -- how they find ways to help and support the community. Sobrang galing! 💯

Anyway, we ordered a lot and my top 3 favorites are the following:

GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH: Though not how I exactly want my grilled cheese, this was still pretty good. I want my grilled cheese really toasted and crunchy but for it to be like that, you'll have to cook it longer and add a lot of butter which is well, BAD and unhealthy (DAMING ALAM! 🙄🤦🏻‍♀️128123). This is the less sinful version and a good alternative. 128521

I liked the thick but still soft bread. And of course, the gooey melted cheese. The amount was just right - not too little, not too much. The tomato sauce on the side made the sandwich better. Kind of bitin lang because too small. Also, I personally think that I would love this even more if I added hot sauce. 128518 The side pickled carrots/cucumber, though weird at first because why would they add that, helped in removing the umay from the cheese. 128077🏼

CALAMANSI MUFFIN. Ahh so nice to eat something not sweet. I liked this!! 128154

APPLE PIE. I've tried this before and wasn't really impressed but because everybody deserves a second chance, I tried this again and wow, masarap naman pala. Yummier with ice cream. 127822127846

SERVICE: 💯💯💯💯💯

I needed a place to kill some time so I dropped by Commune. I didn't want a strong coffee so I went with their Mocha. It was good for me because it wasn't very sweet.

As for the ambiance of the place, it's a good place to just chill and unwind because of the relaxed vibe. It's clean and bright so it's good to have a book on hand and read while having your coffee. They also have some on the table by the glass window. In my case, I spent the morning making cat coasters.

There was a cat that came out and jumped on the table! It just looked out the window and watched the people passing by. Eventually, one of the baristas came and took it to the back of the shop.

FINALLY some free time from my werk lyf! Huhuhu

Commune is not new to me. I love their cozy corner in Salcedo before. I was a little underwhelmed when they moved to Poblacion. The Poblacion location has its own charm but it took me a second visit to fully appreciate it. Minimalist was the way they went with this one. Glass walls, unfinished walls and ceiling, crocheted lamp shades hanging over long wooden tables - it's a laid back and well-lit place.

Went here on a Saturday afternoon with the Food Society crew for a food tour. We had a chance to see their barista make their famous 3D Art Latte! From creating the perfect foam to "drawing" the details - it was awesome!

We also paired our coffee cups with some sweets ---

| Cookie Cake Slice - Cookiebar Manila supplies some of the sweet treats here! The Cookie Cake was one genius creation! One huge chocolate chip cookie, filled with peanut butter and topped with Reese's Peanut Butter Cups, urgh! It's best served warm and IMO, this is best with a scoop of vanilla ice cream or maybe a warm cup of milk! It's moist, sweet and knock out good!

| Apple Pie a la Mode - probably one of the best that I have tasted, it wasn't too sweet and has a good heaping of apple slices! The crust was buttery and the addition of Vanilla Ice Cream ( Carmen's Best) made it better!

| Calamansi Muffin - IMO, this one's better than those you'll get from Boracay. It was light and soft with a calamansi kick that wasn't overwhelming! The sugar with calamansi peel on top made it interesting providing some more hint of the citrus together with some texture.

The husband got himself one Cookie Shot Glass, which they served warm, and he opted warm milk to go with it. So good! You just have to drink and drink the milk because the Cookie Shot Glass can get soft fast. Tried consuming this in room temp and I would say that the warm version was way better!

I've always wanted to order Cookiebar Manila's Jumbo Cookie with Salt but they always run out fast, I was so glad to finally try it here! It was indeed one jumbo cookie with lots of chocolate! Best when dipped in the warm milk or pair this up with ice cream!

Sweets overload indeed but no regrets at all! My sweet tooth was more than happy! I was even tempted to also get the S'mores Cookie but the hubby begged me not to anymore LOL

I've been to numerous restaurants. There were a couple who stood out and there were some who failed miserably. For those who read my (long) reviews, y'all know that i try my hardest to sound constructive. And i am such a fan of second chances.

My first visit at Commune falls under the "just okay" category hence my three star review.

Tonight i am removing them from the aforementioned list. I am adding 'em to the "restaurants worth keep coming to" for a couple of reasons:

I got to know how Commune came to be. Ross (the owner) is really passionate about coffee and wanted to highlight how awesome local coffee is. I am all for Nationalism and supporting local coffee farmers hence this gets huge brownie points in my book

Experience. Dining out is not limited to how good the food is. Other factors need to be considered before one can claim an excellent dining experience.

It is not common for Filipino Diners to interact with the resto owners, let alone the staff. I was once a noob but my perspective changed when i started attending sponsored events. I realized that interaction is essential especially when you want to give your best to the chef or ask questions on how a dish is prepared. And it makes the dining experience special.

We had a grand time at Commune. Ross made us feel that we are part of the "Commune Family"

That Saturday Night is one of those nights that is etched in my memory.

After dinner, we went straight here for coffee and dessert.

Cappucino (120)
Cafe Mocha (140)

Banana Bread (90)
Cookie shot w Carmen's Best ice cream (170)
Chocochip w Seasalt (150)

Carmen's best ice cream, as expected, was good!! The cookie shot and chocochip cookie were both good but too pricey. 128563128563

Service wasn't that great, as well. 128530

Commune has never disappointed its customers when it comes to its cozy interior! The food still tastes good.. tho, is it just me? Or there's a lil bit of changes? Like the food before tasted better than the ones they have now? Even the coffee?

Nonetheless, i would still give Commune a visit next time around! 9996️️
