I've been wanting to try these cupcake out for a while, but when I finally did I was a bit let down. The cake itself is a bit dry. Other than that, it's pretty good...

So I've seen a lot of raves about Cukay's Cupcakes, especially their red velvet. When I saw their kiosk in Alabang Town Center, I was excited to try them out! Good thing they've got these mini cupcakes, about 1oz each, with different flavors. There were two sets and they were pre-packed so you can't really choose the flavors. I opted for the one with Green Tea 128540

The little cupcakes were so gorgeous and colorful! I took a lot of shots before I decided to try them out with the little girl. There were six flavors in their dozen sampler, with two mini cupcakes for each. I reserved all the red velvet for me. I took a tiny bite of the red velvet and all I tasted was the cream cheese frosting. I took the frosting off so I can check on the red velvet cake itself. There was nothing special. No chocolate kick. It tasted like a vanilla cupcake. It wasn't as moist as I expected it to be too. Then I tried the other flavors - still nothing stood out 128563

The green tea was more of jasmine with the flowery taste than matcha. It was dry and a little hard too. The chocolate one with the yema topping was good though but still far from Slice's version. The other chocolate cupcake with buttercream was just okay. The rainbow vanilla one was too dry and a little hard and the white cake flavored one was blah. 128555

Then the frosting. Sure there was generous frosting for each little cupcake but were too sweet. You know that there is too much sugar vs. the cream cheese or buttercream when the frosting has this rough texture when it's already inside your mouth melting. You'll hear this crunchy like sound as you try to get to know the flavors in it. I got that with every single frosting from these mini cupcakes.

Gah! Giving this 127775127775127775 because I could have gotten a bad batch or because I should have tried the regular sized ones. And besides, my little girl liked them because they were colorful. Not really on top of my list, will give Cukay's another try sometime.
