I’ve always been a fan of Cupcakes by Sonja. Ever since they opened in Serendra, I made it a point to pass by whenever I was in the area. There was a time when their cupcakes became a bit dry and overrated though and that sort of made me stop visiting but when they opened a branch in Glorietta, which is near where I work, I gave them another shot and boy I shouldn’t have because #WhatDiet? Hahaha.

Everyone knows about Sonja’s red velvet and vanilla cupcakes but have you ever tried their rainbow cake (100 pesos a slice)? If the answer is no, GO OUT NOW AND GET A SLICE! I’m not sure if this is just a weird personal preference of mine but the simpler the cake tastes, the better. It’s literally the simplest chiffon cake with vanilla icing and sprinkles but it’s the bomb. It doesn’t help that it’s multi-colored, it just gets me even more!

Other than this rainbow cake, I also discovered their carrot cupcakes - my new favorite(!) and their special donuts. For the donuts, try the vanilla, coffee and strawberry flavored ones.

I really hope that the quality of Sonja’s baked goods stays as it is now or improves from here on out. I’d hate to stop visiting them again mainly because of this awesome rainbow cake! Whoever loves me and is reading this, you know what I want for my next birthday! <3

128680 Free Cupcake & Doughnut Alert!!

I came across Cupcakes by Sonjas today and saw this big poster celebrating their 11th year anniversary. Wow!! It's been 11 years since they opened their stores and make our sweet tooth happy. As a way of saying thank you and well celebrate the 11 years, they have a treat waiting for us to enjoy. You can enjoy their cupcakes at Buy 2, Take 1. While, their doughnuts are Buy 1, Take 1. Yayyy!! 10084

We had their doughnuts cause they are so fluffy and reminds me of the childhood sugar doughnuts. What we had are the Cream Caramel, Strawberry Cheesecake, Truffle and Chocolate. I like how their doughnuts are fluffy but not airy on the inside. And despite coated with sugar their filling are nothing too sweet, and well complemented.

Hurry!! Promo is only available until tomorrow so better hoard those doughnuts or their beloved red velvet cupcakes 128525 Available at Glorietta 2, Serendra and Megamall.

Newsflash!!!

As Cupcakes by Sonja is celebrating its 11th yr, they have a promo offered until Sept. 10. It's a buy 2 take 1 for their cupcakes while a buy 1, take 1 offer for their doughnuts.

I do think this was fate. Something really pulled me here that afternoon. I got their doughnuts which I have always wanted to try. I got their Vanilla Bean (P60) and Gianduja (P75). I liked how simple and creamy the Vanilla Bean was. It was on the light side in terms of taste. You could taste the vanilla there. I did prefer the Gianduja which is their chocolate and hazelnut doughnut. Upon first bite, it just blew away my mind. IT WAS SOOOOO GOOOODDD 128557128557128557. Yeah, I cried. I got my friend to taste it, and her eyes lit up too. Surprisingly, both donuts weren't that sweet, rightly fluffy and filled with those awesome mixes. This may be pricier than other donuts out there but it was just simply good. And oh yeah, I only paid P75 for both bec. of their promo so this was a real winner for me. 128513

After lunch at Lugang Cafe and an attempt to meet the 10,000 steps goal per day, we found ourselves craving for Sonja's cupcake conveniently located in Glorietta.

We ordered our usual favorite and also tried their P190 combo. You have a choice from a slice of red velvet cake, hazelnut torte , rainbow sprinkle or their donut with your cafe latte, chocolate or cappuccino

2nd son chose the hazelnut torte. I cant blame him. That caramel frosting looked so tempting and when sliced the cake inside had layers of chocolate intermeshed with what looked like meringue.

Unfortunately, when tasted the cake had an off sour note at the end. We had to return it pronto to the server. They were gracious enough to replace it. We opted for the red velvet cream this time. It was creamy and chocolatey. Yum!

I've been hearing a lot from Sonja's donuts and I can't help but get curious on what the fuss is all about.

I found the perfect time to try this when I craved for a donut. I got their vanilla bean flavor for P65. It's not your usual donut as it wasn't sweet. The inside is similar to a custard with a hint of lemon. The outside is soft and dusted with powdered sugar.

Will be reviewing the doughnuts today. I'm a little late for this and everyone else has tried it so here is our take on Cupcakes by Sonja's doughnuts. For 75pesos it is probably the most expensive doughnut out there in the market. My Mom like the texture of the doughnut, it reminded her of the local 'donut' or bicho sold in the palengke or mang-lalako. It was soft and had the right sweetness care of the white sugar covering it. The filling was very generous. You can taste the basil flavor. We liked it. With Senior Discount the price is 56pesos. Good to try once. Delicious but pricey for a doughnut.

Finally got to try Sonja's Doughnut!!! They are now serving this doughnuts in their other branches including glorietta. When I went home last friday I was so happy this box of happiness was quietly seating on our kitchen table. My brother bought it as a pasalubong from work hahaha.

I got to try 2 variants the Vanilla Bean and the Gianduja (Hazelnut) flavor. I love both of them. The texture of the doughnut was so yummy and I love that it wasn't too sweet. Overall I love it but find it just quite expensive for doughnut. 128077

Finally I was able to try one of the donuts from Sonja's. I only ordered the Creme Caramel (60php). We just had a meal and I just wanted something sweet.

Wow! This one is good! Not too sweet and the donut was super soft! Yum! 128069

Will definitely try the other flavors.

Got to try the donuts from Cupcakes by Sonja, which first came out on the brand's 10th anniversary!

I had the chocolate and hazelnut flavored one. I loved how the donut was firm and in the right size. The sugar coating the donut was just the right amount too.

The filling was good, thick, and creamery. But I wish the chocolate and hazelnut flavor was more pronounced.

Cupcakes by Sonja's 10084️ All I can say is, this is a must to try. Their Red Velvet's are so good. The cream cheese frosting blends perfectly with their moist cupcake. But then again, I am disappointed that they have increased their price when the size diminished a little. Their smores cupcake is another great buy! Don't forget to grab their Christmas cupcake during the Holidays. And, ugh. I love their bars. It's pretty pricey, but the blondie bars. Worth it!! 128525128525 They do have cakes now; red velvet, naked velvet and rainbow. Plus this croissant-cupcake thing which is good too! Everything is good. I'm just sad with the inflation changes. So yeah. 128524

Finally tried this Crupcake- it's a hybrid of croissant and cupcake! A good friend of mine gave this box for christmas 128525128536 flakey and soft texture of a croissant filled with cream and toppings depending on the flavor with a cupcake size. It's perfect pair with a cup of coffee or milk. Flavors are banana nutella, green tea, pecan pie and peanut butter speculoos!🖕🏻 Thank you again Charu Z 128139128523

I am a big fan of cupcakes, cakes and anything sweet. It's been a while since I visited a cupcake shop. I often taste good cupcakes from other shops but this one is THE BEST!

I ordered Red Velvet Vixen, Pistachio Berries n Cream and Choco Cream Cheese Swirl. Their cupcakes are moist, full of flavors and when you're done eating, you'll beg for more 🤗 I will definitely come back and try other flavors!

We needed to rest our weary feet so we plopped down at Sonja's and I ordered what seemed to me the least calorific in their display case -- a cupparon. It's a mini-cupcake topped with a macaron. I figured since it's so small, it wouldn't hurt to order 3, the red velvet, salted caramel, and hazelnut. (This is why my diet never progresses.128530) I liked the hazelnut best and the red velvet the least, which is somehow surprising given that Sonja's is known for its red velvet cupcake.

Service was just ok. I don't know if they're forbidden to leave the counter, but it would have been nice had they offered to refill our water. Anyway, since they didn't seem keen on going to the tables, I cleaned up after we ate and returned our tray to them.

On a final note, I'm all for creativity but sometimes I think these hybrid desserts don't really "create" a new product with their own distinct flavor and texture. Then again, maybe I'm overthinking this. Still, I found the cupparon less easy to handle than if I were eating just a macaron or a mini-cupcake, either of which I would have picked up with my thumb and forefinger and popped in my mouth. A cupparon however is a little taller and does not easily fit in my mouth. Hence, the need for a fork to break it down. So this is where it gets a little messy because a macaron is delicate with a shell that does not yield into just two neat portions, but breaks into pieces. Maybe I'm a tad OC, but I wanted to ask whoever created this -- how do you eat this with dignity?

Right: Peppermint Patty, a favorite for my daughter... It was good chocolate cupcake with that pink minty frosting that didn't taste like toothpaste... I get why she likes it.

Left: I ordered the slice of red velvet layered with devil's food chocolate cake. I forgot what it's called. It had cream cheese frosting around it. But this was served room temperature. I think I would have liked it a bit cooler. The cream cheese was a bit melted. The cake was also a bit dry. Couldn't figure out which one. But it's expected since I got the slice that was the last in the display so maybe it had been standing alone for long.

I should have just gone for Elvis cupcake as I first wanted to do so... 128532

Had our favorite cupcakes for merienda today. We just never get tired of eating their cupcakes. What's good about this store is that they always have new flavors to try. Each cupcake costs around 100-150 each.
