It's hard to be objective when making a review of a place you really love. But I will try. Their lemon meringue cake looks really good and it tastes really good. There are many things that can be done to make a cake moist, whatever they did, this was perfectly moist. Just a little criticism though, I want the lemon curd to be a little more tangy.

Sorry for the pic128513

After we had our lunch at Mongkok at Powerplant mall yesterday I was craving for cupcake so I dropped by at Cupcakes by Sonja, first time at this branch.

I was supposed to order the Cupparon but it's small pala so I just had this Choco overload for 105 pesos, the cupcake is just ok, and find it pricey, i would still go for Cupcake Lab.

I love Cupcakes by Sonja because their cupcakes generally tend to be less sweet than other dessert shops. I am also a huge sucker for flavors like the Red Velvet, Peanut Butter, Tres Leches, and Choco Cream Cheese Swirl so I was very excited to see the diverse range of cupcake flavors offered at Sonja's.

In addition to the traditional vanilla and chocolate flavors, Sonja's also whips up tasty and unique flavors like S'mores Tart, Cookie Monster, Elvis, and one of their best-sellers, the Pistachio Berries and Cream Pie.

The Lemon Drop Cupcake with the tangy lemon buttercream was so delicious. SOOO DELICIOUS. They even smelled heavenly when they were served. The Banana Monkey Cream Pie had slices of fresh bananas and rhum-flavored crust finished off with a generous amount of freshly whipped cream. The cake part was good, but I think the whipped cream frosting would have been better if it were a cream cheese frosting (but that's just a personal opinion).

As for the other cupcakes, Tres Leches, Vanilla Sunshine, and Chocolate Surprisewas - they were all delicious. The cake itself was so moist, and the icing to cake ratio was perfect. My only complaint is that the icing becomes rather hard once refrigerated, even if just for an hour or so. While still delicious, it didn't keep well for more than a day.

Staff was friendly and helpful. Can't wait to come back and try some of their other flavors. The Peppermint Patty Cupcake in particular, looked pretty interesting. This place warrants at least a splurge one or twice.

Cheers,
Mickey

I needed something sweet after all that dimsum. We made a quick pit stop here. Hubby and i shared a Choco Cream Cheese Swirl. It had just the right amount of sweetness and sakto lang the cream cheese. The cupcake was not dry nor too moist. Oh and i love their mismatched tables and chairs!

Excellent service.. Delicious cakes and their frostings are crazy delicious... You cant just have one, that's why this became a box of 6 instead of just 1 cupcake.. 9786

Talk about being hyped and overrated. I was really disappointed with this one. Although they really look good and tempting and the packaging is classic and cute, they're way too sweet for me. I couldn't agree less with the price.

My all time favorite Choco Cream Pie!!! so so sooo goood I tell you. The cream and the chocolate mousse-like filling inside goes pretty well with the chocolate crust. 128525128523128077

i can't get over how good these cake cups are. even the name is witty. earlier, i tried all three flavors in a day and couldn't decide which was best. the degrees apart were oh so very, very small. it was as if each flavor had its own personality and campaign. but after a few more trips and cake cups (if only i could save the cups and for every 10 get a free cup...), i want an exclusive relationship with tres leches with strawberries. a light chiffon soaked in three kinds of milk. ang sarap talaga.

I was craving something sweet while walking around Power Plant Mall. My husband bought a peanut butter cupcake from Cupcake Lab's stall and it was nice and moist. It just wasn't my flavor. So I bought a carrot cake cupcake at Sonja's for the cream cheese frosting. What a mistake! The cake was so dry and flakey. Waste of P95 and more expensive than Cupcake Lab. Only thing that was tasty was the frosting. Over rated!

Although their signature red velvet remains to be one of those opportunistic products that feed off the ignorance of the general public (because rarely do people even know WHAT a red velvet cake is, yet still believe they know enough to judge what a GOOD RV anything is) their cupcakes are GOOD. Like, GOOD.

I know first hand that in comparison to that one cupcake store that branched out like wildfire, creating a popular Instagram-spot due to its picturesque atmospheres (as if the designer puked Washi-tape all over the interior) Sonja's cupcakes deserve the HIGHEST respect. The reason why the cupcakes are EXPENSIVE, is because they use absolutely QUALITY ingredients. They have strict and high standards for their appearance AND you can be sure their standards for cleanliness are above par. They have kept their cupcake flavors FEW but tasteful, not to mention well researched and formulated. (The reason why you usually can't figure out which cupcake to purchase in other stores could be because they have so many... That are almost always similar in flavor) Admittedly, their drinks are a bit pricey, but their lemonades use a decent amount of FRESHLY squeezed lemon juice, and they used BREWED tea for their iced teas, and REAL strawberry and blueberry purée! Don't bother commenting about their coffee if you don't even know the difference between an American and brewed coffee.

Overall, their service is excellent, always serving with a smile, and their cupcakes, though expensive, are made with the BEST ingredients (like the good kind of chocolate) in town.

There's a funny thing happened while I was ordering here. I'm not aware that the guy who's standing beside me is Jericho Rosales. Lol! My mom and brother took a photo with him. Lol! 128518 Fan mode or jej mode. 128518128517

I've been craving for sweets since Friday, but I'm on a diet for future work purposes. Hehe... Kaso wala na eh, nagdrop na kami ni Mommy dito for dessert so no choice. 128514

I ordered Smores tart while Mommy ordered the Hostess cupcake (di ko alam kung bakit hostess, or baka nagkamali lang ako ng binasa lol 128514128514128514). I also ordered a cup of capuccino though the staff said, Smores tart is best partnered with lemonade. Both are chocolate-based.

It's super sweet! 128561 I can't even finish the tart so I asked Papa to combine it on his brewed coffee. In few bites, it's like I already ate a whole chocolate cake. Lol

They have a new flavor. It's chocolate pepper or pepper chocolate (which is which) but I told Mom not to order it kasi baka di namin magustuhan. Balak nya kasi itry, pero next time nalang diba. Pepper and then chocolate?! 128561128584 lol whut

Their coffee is good too, and it's strong. Might run and burn the sugars and calories later. Haha.

let me just put the word out there that i have never tried their cupcakes. i'm more of a muffin person, blindly loyal, and cupcakes are like half a muffin with lots of frosting. what i did try were the cake cups.

cake cups were introduced to me in the holiday season in three flavors. first try: tres leches with strawberries. described as chiffon cake slices soaked in 3 kinds of milk, layered with whipped cream and fresh strawberries. followed by: milk chocolate and hazelnut praline. alternating layers of milk chocolate cream and white chocolate cream topped with chocolate ganache and hazelnut praline. alright. and then, there were three: coffee caramel biscoff crunch - caramel cake, coffee mousse, caramel mousse, biscoff cream, topped with coffee glaze and caramelized nuts.

are they all good? yes. did you have all three at the same time? no, are you crazy?? but i did eat all three in a single day. each having a respective pause in between to take in their varying personalities. why choose? you can have it all.
