We ordered red velvet cupcake, rainbow cake slice and brownies plus my friend ordered hot tea.

Red velvet cupcake was a bit dry but the rest are good.

Great way to cap off our meal.

For my sister's birthday last february 14, My fam and I decided to bought her a rainbow cake! I love everything about it. the color especially the concept of the cake. Everyone was amazed and happy about the cake. but we're a bit dissappointed because it taste like an ordinary cake.. they use an icing and sponge cake 🙁 and a bit pricey for the taste but the physical appearance was good at all...

This is my first time to try these cupcakes. Their flavors were interesting. But upon having my first bite I was disappointed of their cake, it was too dry. 128549

I am sad of the fact that the cupcakes we had did not taste fresh 128513 We used to get dozens from their BGC mother branch and enjoy devouring them up to the last bite. Unfortunately, this time around we didn't enjoy the cupcakes 128532 Sorry Sonja....maybe we'll just go to Carolyn Robb's... or the branch in Taguig..

I had been craving (I initally typed "cupcraving" HAHA excited makarating agad sa cupcakes?) cupcakes this morning. Since I felt I had to get out of the house today, I figured I'd go buy some! I just made a custom wood surface for my food photography, so I felt what better way to try it out with some of the cutest desserts ever?

I had never bought more than one cupcake whenever I visit Cupcakes by Sonja, but I immediately knew that I'd get a box of four, for a few reasons. 1) I could stave off my craving of cupcakes for a while, 2) I could have some subjects to take photos of for the next couple of days, and 3) the cupcakes smear easily in the single box.

I decided to get different flavors while I was at it. The Chocolate Surprise was my go-to cupcake, but I found the one with vanilla frosting to look exceptionally pretty! So I got both LOL. Then of course a Red Velvet Vixen (the cupcake that taught me to love cream cheese), and Vanilla Sunshine won over Peppermint Patty since three of my cupcakes were already chocolate based.

I normally enjoy cupcakes right out of the fridge (firm icing!), but I was amazed at how well the cupcakes held up until I got home. We walked around Trinoma a whole longer after purchasing the desserts, plus I took a few photos of them before actually eating one. Soft, sweet, and pretty, everything a cupcake should be!

Here right now... Real time review for Sonja's...

We hesitated to stay or buy here due to the leaky ceiling pipe splashing all over the floor near the cupcake display... I should have listened to my instinct! 128548

Due to the great experience with the Coco Loco just this week, my bf asked if I wanted to hang out in Sonja's... I wanted to try their Lemon Drop again, years after... It was the flavor that turned me into a fan... 128513

So, I ordered the classic pairing of lemon drop cupcake with their latte for P140 while my bf got the Berry Delight Strawberry cheesecake with an espresso for the same price... They don't have a soy milk or nonfat option, FYI to those who are lactose intolerant or watching their weight... Lol, then again why eat a cupcake if you are on a diet...128540

The berry delight was okay but so small for the price... The Lemon Drop, on the other hand, was dry and waaaaay too sweet! 127819 what happened? 128549

Maybe my last visit was a fluke... But they should at least fix the leaky pipe! Eeeeew, hygiene!!!

I'd go for Gigi's, Cupcake Lab or Frozen Desserts if we are talking about cupcakes... Unless the Coco Loco is available!128513

I know, the cupcakes should be the highlight but I really liked this shot (pls forgive my hangnail tho) and I liked their latte. Only, I had to put 3 packets of brown sugar to appreciate it. It was too bitter for a latte without the extra sugar.

Anyway, I got to try 3 cupcakes:

1. Death by Chocolate (which I personally ordered) - and when they called it that, they weren't kidding. It was SO THICK I felt like I was gonna die from its chocolatey-ness halfway through the cupcake.

2. Vanilla Sunshine (or was it sunrise?) - very light and fluffy with a very sugary frosting. I liked it.

3. Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting (I'm making up names now) - which they claimed was their "healthiest" cupcake. It was just okay for me.

Service was great, but I'm not the biggest fan of open spaces in the middle of mall, like where their seats are.

So.. Sonja is one of the pioneer cupcake shops here in Manila. I remember going all the way to Serendra just to buy a boxful of their sweets to bring home to my family. It's good to see that over the past few months, they have expanded, and I mean REALLY expanded. However, I think the quality of their goodies has declined..

My sister and I went to their Trinoma branch and it took them a long time to produce our lemonade and coffee. They were obviously understaffed. Only 2 were manning the entire cupcake store - no one was cleaning the tables.

As for our dessert, we got the Choco Cream Cheese Swirl and S'mores Tart. Both were just okay.. The Choco Cream Cheese Swirl's top was a tad bit tough. Not sure if it's really meant to be like that or if it's an old stock. The S'mores Tart was a bit hard to eat.

But for me, nothing special with the bread/cake.

First time I tried their cupcakes years ago I really loved them. Now the cupcakes are soooo dry and too sweet. It's like eating pure sugar frosting. What happened, Sonja's?

Pistachio Berries n Cream - (PREMIUM) A distinctive brown butter based pistachio cupcake adorned with juicy strawberries and whipped cream! @120 each...(Expensive!!!)

Sounds divine but taste wise, I didn't like it as much as my favorite Choco creme pie...but pwede na rin... I just expected the cake itself to be more moist...128533128533128533

Too bad I didn't enjoy it that much. The cupcake is a bit dry and the coffee is not that exciting.

Hmmmmm.... I don't know what exact words to use to rate the cupcake... I think its too sweet? I ordered choco cream pie (135) after eating yogurt @ red mango... Maybe thats why I had enough sweet that time.. Or I should have just stayed with the best seller, their red velvet (85)

Anyway, i advice you not to dine here., have a take out instead. Their dining area is cute cause of those fancy lil chairs... Its just located along the mall hallway in front of the store. , the store has a door connecting with a slipper shop (all flip-flops) which is not a good idea... I can smell the rubber from the shop! (A bit of it- but i found the door useless..

But because I love cupcakes., this place is ok and i would come back and try other flavors...

I just found the cupcakes too pricey for a small piece of it.

This place Deserves a second chance.
