Mount Samat National Shrine or Dambana ng Kagitingan (Shrine of Valour) definitely has got to be one of the most beautiful monuments I have ever seen. It is located at the summit of Mount Samat in Pilar, Bataan.

The white Memorial Cross stands as a symbol of patriotism and gallantry of the many fallen Filipino and American soldiers who fought during World War II.

When we visited, the elevator that would take you all the way up to the summit was under renovation. Great. Now it's a test of our fitness. Lol! Nevertheless, we wouldn't let a broken elevator hinder us! We started climbing our way up! At first, I was counting the steps we took, but we weren't even halfway and I was already out of breath! 128514

But upon reaching the summit, all that "hingal" was worth it! Consisting of a colonnade and the huge Memorial Cross, we've learned that then-President Ferdinand Marcos commissioned to have it built for the 25th anniversary of World War II.

From the colonnade is a breathtaking panoramic view of Bataan. The Memorial Cross was truly majestic. I found myself a good spot, shielded from the blazing sun, laid down and spent a good half-hour just appreciating its beauty. I watched as the birds were flying around the cross and the sun shining down on it.

Oh, and I was lucky enough to capture a bird in flight around the cross. Yay! 10084 It definitely should be in your travel bucket list!

The Shrine of Valor or Dambana ng Kagitingan can be seen at Mt. Samat - a historic mountain in the town of Pilar. This Memorial Cross is dedicated to fallen Filipinos and Americans during World War II.

While you’re there, make sure to take the elevator and go straight to the top of the structure. During our last few hours in Bataan, I just enjoyed the view from the Dambana ng Kagitingan's most photographed View Deck.

Long hiking session to reach the top. It just means that we should all suffer so that we could feel that we are a part of history 128514

It was hot and sunny day. The stairs were steep. But it was very beautiful. I didn't get the chance to go inside the cross.

I broke my heart in this site. Probably the best place for breakups LOL! Personal History aside, this Mountain holds a strength in the Philippine History where a mark of a huge cross commemorates death and patriotism of Filipino Soldiers and heroes during the Japanese War. Because of Bataan's current walk to development tourists come here more often than usual.
The road going up to Mount Samat is very convenient and the overlooking view is breathtaking. A small museum is kept for the purpose of retrospective viewing though I need to say it requires a bit of cleaning (he he!)

The Mount Samat Cross is one of the most majestic memorials I've seen in the country. Take the elevator to the top of the cross and witness the breathtaking view from the inside! Amazing!

Shrine of Valor or the Dambana ng Kagitingan

This shrine commemorates the bravery, courage and sacrifices of Filipino and American soldiers when the Japanese invaded the Philippines during World War II. This also memorializes the fall of Bataan into the hands of Japanese.

The shrine is 302ft high memorial cross, made of steel, concrete and marble. It has an elevator and a view deck at the arms of the cross where you can see entire Bataan. Elevator fee is Php20.00

This shrine is located near Mt. Samat summit in Brgy. Diwa, Pilar, Bataan.

This is a perfect place where you can connect with the past or appreciate nature. 128522

You can ride the elevator to the wings of the cross. I only had to pay 10 Pesos for the elevator and about 30 seconds of feeling like a sardine inside a can I now reached the wings of the cross.

Great view on top! A must visit in Bataan...since Bataan has few things to offer aside from their great beaches., this is one of the few must visit in the area.

Don't miss!

Check out why I liked Mt. Samat! Read my review on looloo
