What I love about traveling across provinces in the Philippines is that every point is easily reachable with public transporation. It is a 10-minute tricycle ride from 1st Colonial uphill General Luna road. They implement fixed fare and it only costs Php 40 from the Hi-way.

Upon arriving at the foot of the Church, the breathtaking view of Mt. Mayon is on the east. The picturesque sight of Mayon Volcano never fail to draw amazement while facade of Parish is carved with intrinsic details. The pure white Church looks more beautiful as it is surrounded with clear blue skies.

It is written in the entrance that the Our Lady of the Gate Parish (La Nuestra Señora de Porterìa) is historically built in 1773 with Volcanic Rocks. This hispanic baroque architechture was then restored and the interiors is re-designed with modern style.

This is the same Church where "KathNiel" shot one scene in the local film "She's Dating The Gangster". There are stores across the Chuch and tricycles readily available to move you around the city.

The Church of Nuestra Señora de la Porteria or Our Lady of the Gate is regarded as one of the most visited old churches in the Philippines. More commonly known as Daraga Church, this truly is the crowning glory of religious architecture in this province... Standing on top of a hill and set against the backdrop of the perfect cone of Mayon, this church is constructed out of volcanic rock... It is definitely a sight to behold.

Though it is actually built by Franciscan missionaries, legend has it that it was built by the daragas or maidens after the catastrophic eruption of Mayon in 1814 that ruined neighboring towns... It was at this time that Daraga became independent of the town of Cagsawa and it was where the survivors relocated after the lahar flow. The architecture is said to be mostly baroque with gothic influence... It was declared as a National Cultural Treasure last 2007. It is currently undergoing restoration due to the ravages it has encountered for over 200 years. If you look closely, you will notice the lime wash on the facade that was placed to preserve the intricate details of the church. I really hope it survives for years to come as it is a testament to the resilience of the Bicolano spirit...

This beautiful baroque church has been standing since the 1700s. It has a rich history because this is where the townspeople fled when the Cagsawa church was buried by the massive eruption.

This was our last destination when we went to bicol for a family trip. It's the nearest in our lodge but we chose to make it the last so we can attend mass before we head for a 12-hr trip.

This church is regarded as one of the most visited old churches in Philippines and in Bicol.

The church's natural facade remains it's beauty despite of the reconstruction from the original church. It's made of volcanic stones.

Relics of the saints are on the left side of the church, also the candle stand. But if you wish to light a candle there, make sure to buy candles outside the church for there were no candle there.

We came minutes before 2pm so we made it to the start of the mass. It was a great experience because the celebrant is on his thanksgiving for being ordained as a priest for almost a year that time. He brought six more priests from different provinces all over the Philippines, that might made the mass as holy as ever.

The interior of the church isn't that captivating like the other churches. But digging onto its history and looking at the beauty from the outside, it will be worth all the ride from Manila to Daraga, considering there is a view of Mayon Volcano on the right side. What a blessed place.
