Eating durian and local dishes in Davao make me look for a different food. Good thing i got to find Dencia's.

Another fave cafeteria/resto in Davao, this has been here in ages–good for family breakkie or even brunch catch-ups. Order their bangsilog paired with a good hot mug of brewed coffee.

(And I apologise for not showing around some pics. Next time if find myself again in Davao!)

Ordered food to go again so I'll just cover what we had for lunch.

Pinsec frito - 1/5
There was barely any meat! It was mostly deep fried wanton wrapper. So all you get is crunchy oil.

Tokwa - 3/5
It's just plain tokwa with soy sauce and garlic. It wasn't bad. It was just okay. Nothing special.

Fried Sotanghon -4/5
Not sure what it was called but it was pancit that was 'burnt'/crunchy around the edges. It's somewhat like the crunchy base of a good paella only it's made of pancit and the whole thing is covered by the crust. So you get normal pancit in the middle but crunch everywhere else. It's not the healthiest dish but it's really good. This was worth the calories and cholesterol unlike their pinsec frito!

Overall I'd give it a 3/5. It's value for money.

Dencia's is a Chinese restaurant that has been in the business for over 50 years. (Yep, way back before I was born.) They're well known for their lugaw, arroz caldo, and tokwa't baboy. The place is always full, and they have many repeat customers.

I've been here a couple of times before as a kid, and I still remember how good their lugaw and tokwa't baboy are. So when I dropped by for breakfast, I ordered those of course!

For their lugaw and arroz caldo stock, I'm aware that they boil and simmer chicken/beef/pork bones for a long time. This gives that rich and thick flavor of meat, even though it's just rice porridge.

They also have their own recipe for tokwa't baboy. They make their own tokwa so it doesn't taste commercial. It's still soft even after being fried. And their own recipe sauce goes so well with the tokwa and pork.

Those two dishes still taste as good as I remember them. Dencia's has been very consistent, and they did not disappoint again.
