Currently here waiting for our pizza. Waitress told us it's going to take 30mins as they have 1 oven and they're currently baking bread. Fine. It's been more than 30 mins and when we followed up with the same waiter who took our order, she said our order is being cooked already. After 5 mins, we made another follow up (with another waiter) said they pizza has just been placed in the oven. WTH.

Follow up #4, they said five more minutes. This has been the longest 5 minutes of my life. Stay away.

I’ve always been curious how food is like here. I passed this significantly sized restaurant quite often while I go around Shangri-La, always missing the chance to dine. Yesterday, I attended a talk on Canon’s food workshop, it was just beside it.

So getting bored, I stood up and dragged my friend along. We approached their cold brew stall and viola, got a mild Latte with brown sugar syrup and full cream milk. We also shared an amazing fudgy brownie filled with nuts and love.

Duck and Buvette specializes in duck meat done in different ways. They also serve pastas, sandwiches and other types of meat grilled, fried, roasted, panfried, smoked and braised. It’s European, one of the world’s finest cuisines.

I didn’t really know that this is a French restaurant, and that the price range versus the serving size is not as grand as I thought it was.
According to their menu, the mains are meant for one, but usually also shared. True enough, when our food was served, we had enough to fill our bellies.

We started with the Duck Ragu Pappardelle (Php380). Ragu is a meat-based sauce, which is commonly served with pasta. Pappardelle are large, very broad, flat pasta noodles, similar to wide fettuccine. It’s basically, just a pasta with a red sauce, but I love the right blend of flavours and the tenderness of the duck meat.

We also tried the Maple Candied Bacon and Lemon, because, well, it’s bacon. Though the edges were burnt, the meat was tender, sweet and appetizing. Squeezing some lemon might help balance the taste, if it’s too sweet for you.

As first timers, I think what we ordered were safe. However, after seeing pictures and reading about the other dishes this restaurant offers, I think I would like to go back and try those.

I wouldn't choose duck meat normally but today was an exception; I felt a bit adventurous 128514 so lunch with Mark O was half duck confit (tender duck meat with crispy-licious skin, and potato pavé with salty duck egg. I enjoyed the meal but most likely wouldn't go back for some time.

I'd duck duck next time someone suggests duck; the advice would probably be treated like water off a duck's back 128541128541128541

Duck & Buvette’s aim is to serve “inspired yet simple food, using seasonal produce and handpicked ingredients, with influences from the cooking of the French countryside”. It’s such a nice and noble goal. There aren’t that many French restaurants here in the metro (or maybe not that I’m aware of) so it’s nice to have some simple French eats. Yes, I’ll have some of the dishes here please. 🙂

You know what amazed me with their Crispy Potato Pave and Salty Duck Egg? The potato layers. Don’t be fooled by its cube appearance for it has many thin potato layers.I wasn’t able to capture it as I only got a closer look before taking a bite. It paired well with the salty duck egg, which didn’t overpower the dish, and creme fraiche.

BACON. Yeah…I should leave it at that. Hahaha. Their Maple Candied Bacon and Lemon was really delicious. It does have this sticky feel all thanks to that lovely maple. I didn’t mind it for the taste was just inexplicably good. Or maybe I’m just biased because I love bacon. 128539

Lightly drizzled with raspberry and balsamic reduction, their Confit of Pork Belly with Egg and Rice was just okay. The pork belly was crispy but it had parts where it was salty. Not sure if sea salt is to be blamed for this but it still had plus notes. You could just have it with rice and egg or spread the drizzle evenly.

Their Wild Sourdough Bread Basket was soooo goooooddd. My friend told me that we had to try the bread here. No regrets whatsoever as it is indeed a must-try here. It was lightly toasted and served with some butter. It was quite heavy too.

I was still on a coffee high then so I opted for their House Brew Lemon Iced Tea instead. I loved how it wasn’t sweet with the lemon complementing the tea nicely.

I actually wanted to try their waffles and other delectable sweet treats but alas, my tummy couldn’t hold it no more. Price could be expensive if you order their mains but if you stick to their bites and baked goods, it’s of a reasonable one. You are ensured of quality French dishes so it’s worth one’s money. Service was okay too. So yeah, I’ll have some of Duck & Buvette s’il vous plaît. 🙂

Sunday afternoon with my friends. After a thrilling, suspense, scary and annoying movie, we settle down for some coffee and dessert. I must admit, I've been wanting to try Duck & Buvette. Finally my 2 buddies agree this time (as last time the place seems chaotic.. Filled with bunch of kids.. Playing, screaming..etc)

The place is half full when we arrived. And everyone seems at a relax mood. So we settled in. Lighting is quite dimmed, but they got cozy ambiance. Homie feeling with the simple decors and paintings.

I wanted a cup of good brewed coffee. I ordered, El Diablo 128520 (P160) its a signature dark roast. It is served in a mug or you can request it to be in french press, for stronger taste. I enjoyed the strong coffee taste, perfect blend. Something I needed today. But this should be consumed asap, you don't want to drink it cold.

Tartine (P120), waffle 128522 topped with coffee butter and served with jam on the side. Enjoyed this one, waffle is glazed.. Somehow sweet, but with the butter on it is good then you top it with the jam. Perfect!

Verdict: my first time, and loved it! A coffee place I can come back. Also, browsing in the menu, dishes looks promising.. Might give it a try next time.

First I would like to say that this half duck order is delicious - and big. It was a challenge even for me to finish it albeit I was alone hehe it's really meant for sharing. I need to point out though that this barely tasted like duck confit. Confit is salt cured and the meat should taste slight salty. I think the owners tuned it to the local palette and it's kinda obvious since they have rock salt on the side (and rice 128513). Oh and yes, I was able to finish everything. 128586

Must try the 8-hour angus brisket! The beef was very tender and the roast mushroom sauce didn't overpower the dish. Came with a side of garlic potato mash with the consistency of polenta. Reasonably priced at Php370. We also ordered the Bikini Sandwich. A bit smaller than what you'd expect for Php270 but the black truffle spread was divine. TDF.

I have wanted to try the Duck Confit in this joint but my sister and I were on a tight budget so we ended up ordering other stuff. It was still a nice experience though since we got to try something out of their menu. And we weren't that hungry for lunch so we wanted something light.

My sister and I had our eyes on the same sandwich which was the Bikini Sandwich. It's a grilled cheese sandwich made more exciting having Parma Ham and Black Truffle Spread. Don't get me wrong, it was absolutely delicious, but the portion was ridiculously tiny. Omeged, as in. The black truffle spread was amazing! I just wished we had more. At Php 270 ++, my sister and I couldn't help but comment on the fact that their table napkin was even bigger than the sandwich. Please see photo for reference. It was sad looking, but the taste is great. I can't say it was really worth it though.

My sister had a toothache so she just wanted Pasta. We were looking for a cream based pasta but they didn't have any. The waiter suggested their Carbonara with there house made Pappardelle. The pasta was marvelous, having been made fresh. The portion was good enough for sharing, but at Php 405 ++, it is also ridiculously expensive. I swore I could finish the dish on my own if I was hungry. It was delicious, I must say. But still, ang mahal talaga.

I would love to come back to try their specials, but it would be nice to be with family, or more people to pitch in. Haha 128517

Nice sweet crisp tartine waffles + latte art. 9786 I loved the raspberry jam that came with the waffle. After walking around the mall, it's a nice spot to sit and just get your legs rested. The was very attentive and accommodating.

K and I couldn't decide where to get dessert after or super healthy dinner at Green Pastures, good thing we passed by D&B! 9786

I remembered having their Honey & Thyme Macaron Ice Cream before, and I really liked it. It was almost the same size as a Samsung Note phone. This time though, it was like only a half of that. 128557

We also got their very famous Earl Grey Cheesecake! I was actually hesitant to order one because K does not like teas. To my surprise, he ate half of the order!!! He actually told me to eat already because he was close to finishing it! 128514 I like that the cheesecake has the right amount of tartiness to eat, plus it's balanced with earl grey tea, which is my favorite! 9786

This one makes it to my top desserts in Manila!

My brother in law recommed this resto, we tried their wild sourdough bread basket, lightly toasted, served with French butter php 120. Their house specialty, D & B crispy half duck confit, served with whole grain mustard, red wine sauce, ratatouille duck rice and cranberry carrot sides php 980. The duck has crispy skin, the meat tender and juicy, it literally fall off from the bone. The shaved carrot salad had a generous dressing, topped with minced cranberry bits. The rice was tasty by itself. The mustard and sauce enhanced the flavor of the meat. This ambiance was nice, not too bright, comfortable seats and friendly servers.. This resto was formerly called Cafe provencal.

The duck confit is good. But the beef burgundy? Divine! Love love love this dish. Comes with a generous serving of rice, so if you're hungry, do order this one. Definitely a restaurant worth coming back to. 128523

You cannot go here without trying their duck confit. Their Angus meatballs are also a good appetizer while waiting for the main course. Finally, don't forget to cap it all off with their macaron ice cream. Tried their banana peanut butter flavor and loved it! Would definitely go back here 128077🏼

This, folks, is the main event -- the reason why you come here: their talked-about Duck Confit. Fatty, crispy, tender, this wonderful French viand was amazing. Just make sure you bring hungry friends with you -- as it's kinda hard to finish.

Also had the French onion soup which surprisingly was blah, and the octopus salad which was quite good.

Me thinks this place is worthy of a return.

Got their goat cheese ravioli in tomato basil sauce. It was pretty good. I love the sauce!

I also tried their waffles. Got the coffee butter flavored one. Nothing special and the waffle was pretty small too.
