so after dinner last night, we walked to the chinese grocery next door. we looked for the owner to say hi but we didn't see him.
i immediately went to the frozen section (to your right when you enter the store) and got a plastic tray of frozen kalabasa (pumpkin) cake . this is not your usual sweet cake. this is more like a radish cake that you can order in chinese restaurants. this is not always available in the store as it expires quickly.
so this morning, i asked our maid to slice and fry 5 pieces. i told her i wanted it crispy. so it was crispy on the outside and soft inside. i poured worcestershire sauce all over it to add spiciness. perfect to start my saturday morning.

When my hormones are acting up and I feel like eating junk food, I make sure to binge on healthier options that equally satisfy my cravings. And yup, we know that eating healthy does not come cheap!
So here's my little secret that you can only get from DEC - Ghills branch. These are dehydrated Shitake Mushroom chips that come in a tub for 300php. A little pricey, but c'mon, these are the real thing sans the msg and oily coating!️ One of the best alternatives for calorie-laden chips, imo.

Fresh Lumpia for 99 pesos and Matchang at 85. Hmmm...feels a little expensive for me na.
Already equivalent to Chicken meal or Quarter pounder with Cheese na for me and hubs. Imo.

Their food items can be quite expensive, especially with their imported items, but the quality of their exclusive products are excellent.

One of the places i can get Picolè from.
These are "healthy" ice pops that come in many flavours. They're pretty cheap at 39-42 pesos a stick. My favourite are the plain yogu and strawberry yogu ones ️
*Bring your own cooler and ice if you plan to bring them home.

Chinese breakfast take outs
Kuchay dumplings ... I didn't like much
Prawn hakaw... Plump & nice chew to the skin... Eat while fresh... Not recommended to be reheated
Shrimp siomai... Yummy & bouncy
Xo siomai ... Not bad for take outs

They've been around for the longest time. This is pur neighborhood Chinese deli. You can buy Chinese food items for take home. We usually buy their Chinese Lumpia, Chicken Pie, Hakaw, Chicken Feet and the Asados. We also get our squidballs and lobster ball supplies here.
I also buy my Carmen's Best ice cream here

Byfar the best leche flan I've ever had, can be bought here! Smooth, even, thick and creamy - it literally falls under the "gradually melts in your mouth" satisfaction (yes it won't break apart, or melt off easily). For the extra awesome experience, freeze for 15-30 minutes.
It has the right level of sweetness thus packaged with light syrup :)
You can also buy insanely huge, sweet strawberries here, aside from chinese deli :)
You'd find the BEST FRESH LUMPIA IN THE METRO here, by the way!
Extra Tip : Just outside DEC, you can buy kilos of Suahe and Tiger Prawns from manong if you catch him loaded.

I always purchase their Seafood fresh Lumpia wrapped in egg wrappers. Costs 85.00, used to be 65.00(ggrrr!!! the inflation). You can ask for addl sauce & minced garlic. Of course, luvd their chicken pies, Hakaw, special siomai, ube drinks& frozen goodies for shabu-shabu. Credit card's accepted, too!

My Chinese to go to deli
cold prawn salad, tons of big plump fresh prawns in plastic containers , perfectly seasoned with crunchy celery ... Lightly salted, little sweetened & a dust of pepper balances the taste.... light snack as salad or spread on bread.
Seedless fresh lychees ... Hahahaha... sweet new discovery for the lazy heathy foodie
