Very good food and excellent service. Food here tastes even better than the branch in Taiwan. Must try for dimsum lovers.

I met up with a friend for dinner and this is where we ended after a filling meal, just for dessert!

She swears by their chocolate XLB so I couldn't deny her request especially since she's paying anyway haha

So we sat down second in line and got to our seats fast. The place was spacious and everything was organized.

The usual large dimsum bamboo steamer came for just 3 tiny pieces, still steaming on top of a damp cloth.

For me, the filling was delicious but the wrapper itself is like mochi that when the taste of chocolate is gone you're still chewing. I like it but not enough to go for just that on the next visit.

Though I've had a meal in another country and was impressed I have yet to dine in here in manila, next time!

The last time I reviewed Din Tai Fung, I gave it a low rating calling it overrated. Today despite my hesitation, I agreed to have lunch there hoping to get a better experience out of it.

My lunch did not change my opinion very much. Though I would say that it was much better than the first, it still did not meet my expectations given all the hype the place has been getting.

The salted fish prawns as well as the black pepper beef were just ok. The hot and sour soup was pretty much average. But it definitely does not rank well compared to the less fancier Chinese restaurants. I liked the steamed brocolli leaves in garlic. It had a perfect crunch and was not over cooked. The shrimp dumplings was a disappointment. It was cooked like xiao long bao so it was a little soupy. But what made it a failure was the wrapper. It was thick and bland so it felt like I was eating soggy pita bread.

For this review I give Din Tai Fung a "pasang awa" grade of three stars.

I have soooo much love for Din Tai Fung!! I am a huge dumpling lover and I go here almost every week/ every other week because I can't get enough of their dumplings. 128525 I also have other favorites on their menu and the food is always so delicious. Here are the dishes I always order:

127800 Pork Xiao Long Bao - My favorite xiao long bao in Manila! The dumplings are well-made, the dumpling skin is soft and chewy, and the filling is always warm and delicious. Simple but utterly satisfying.

127800 Vegetarian Mushroom Wontons with House Soy Sauce - Another favorite of mine from their dumpling menu. I love the fresh, earthy taste of the tofu and mushroom filling, and it works well with the soy sauce.

127800 Noodles with Minced Pork Sauce - This dish may seem simple, but the light soy flavor and the textures from the minced pork, beans, and tofu cubes make the dish very filling and enjoyable.

127800 Hot and Sour Soup - You'll find plenty of nice treasures in this little soup, including tofu, vegetables, and egg. It's hearty, thick, salty, and sour and I find it very comforting.

127800 Chocolate Xiao Long Bao - The skin of this dumpling is thicker, and the chocolate inside oozes out as soon as you bite into it. It's chewier and more filling because of the thickness of the dumpling skin and the chocolate.

127800 Iced Rose Tea - One of my two favorite drinks! This is very refreshing and it has a nice hint of rose flavoring.

127800 Hot Oolong Tea - Ordered this by accident once and I didn't regret it one bit. The tea wasn't bitter at all, it was warm, smooth, and incredibly soothing. You can ask for refills too!

The service has always been great for me, even during peak hours. The waiters always give me what I need (refills, extra orders, etc) pretty quickly and they're friendly too. Plus, the place itself is pretty nice too. I would definitely recommend this to anyone!

I cannot get enough of their food. I can’t believe it took me forever to finally eat here.

Service was pretty okay. Food arrived quickly but the refills for my hot tea took forever. The second time I went here though, tea service refills were faster - maybe because we sat beside the service station (where the tea was stores).

So you place all your orders in the order form they give you (you just need to tick the boxes and indicate the number of orders per item). Ao make sure you order correctly.

Everything here was delicious.

I loved their Pork and Crab Roe XLB. The Crab Roe is supposed to be spicier. It comes in 5 or 10 pieces per order. You cannot go here without trying their XLB. Its a must.

The shrimp and pork shao mai was also good. It looked really cool too. We ordered it primarily because it reminded my husband of what the Cooking Master Boy (anime) did in one of the episodes.

The shrimp and pork pot stickers are pretty cool looking and yummy too. They look like fried gyozas with a fried sheet of dumpling wrapper or something (have no idea what it is) on top. You get different textures while eating it - crispy and soft.

I loved that they can serve you brown or white rice version of their fried rice. Ofcourse I got the brown rice version (makes me feel leas guilty about pigging out). The salted fish rice (no photo) was okay. I loved the sweet garlic and scallions. I love everything garlicky so this was perfect for me.

We also tried the salted egg yolk prawns and crispy beef strips. I love that the beef strips are sweet, tangy and pretty soft and juicy!

The mango sago with pomelo is the best! It is so refreshing! And there’s something mixed with the mango - I don’t know if its milk or what but it is so good. This is the best mango sago for me. And I don’t even like mangoes.

We also tried the buchi and the salted egg bun. Well, these items are good, but not really something I’d always order.

Overall, I enjoyed my dining experience here and I will be back for sure. I’ve been here four times this month. Gah!

Probably the best xiao long bao in town. Originated in taipei and had sprouted to many countries. And its unfathomable to think that the owners are originally in cooking oil business before they delve into xlb which doesnt use any much cooking oil.

Onto the food, pork xlb was superb but the beef noodles was not worth 350+ and didnt taste.anything premium. Abit too spicy.

I was craving for some Chinese food last Tuesday
Good thing Megamall from Mandaluyong was on the way
Mom and I decided to have lunch
Din Tai Fung as our choice of restaurant was our hunch

Xiao Long Bao is the star of the show
Soup is in the dumpling which makes you go woah
Dip the dumpling in vinegar, soy sauce and ginger
As you get to take a bite, you will instantly feel like a winner

Shrimp Siomai, Brocolli Vegetable and Mango Sago were the other orders
We didn’t want to waste food and didn’t want to reorder
The food served to us may be pricey
But it satisfied our cravings surely

Din Tai Fung in Taiwan has a different experience
You can surely feel people’s excitement and one’s patience
I am definitely going back
To satisfy my tummy with more XLB and maybe a snack

(At least I tried hehe 128517)

The best xiao long bao in the world!!!

So far, I've been to DTF in Singapore ((Tampines
Mall, Shoppes at Marina Bay & Resorts World Sentosa), and the Philippines (Mega Fashion Hall).

We first had a taste of their famous Xiao Long Bao at the SM Megamall branch before we were actually able to try it in the place where this heavenly treat started, Taiwan. Given that Din Tai Fung is yet another Michelin Star restaurant brought here in Manila, we had high expectations.

First off, the line is quite long but their queueing system is very efficient so you need not worry too much about it. There are different lines for different number of customers. While waiting, you can also look at the open kitchen where the "magic" happens. You can clearly see all those dumplings are hand-made. Our number was called quickly as there were only two of us which I believe is an advantage.

Of course we ordered Pork Xiao Long Bao (served in orders of 5 or 10 pieces) - 127775127775127775127775127775 hype is real! It really was heavenly. How can a very small piece contain so much flavor?! Dip it in the soy sauce + fermented vinegar + sliced ginger or not, it is super duper good!!! But okay let's rewind a bit. How do we properly eat these soup dumplings? First, eat them immediately upon serving! Best when still hot and fresh! Dip the dumpling in the soy sauce + fermented vinegar + sliced ginger, poke a hole into the side of the wrapper, and then devour the entire dumpling in a single bite!! Easy right? Lol. I have tried Xiao Long Bao from other local restaurants but this Michelin Star restaurant really was awarded consistently for a reason. Huge difference in the quality of the wrapper, pork, soup... everything!

Aside from the famous Xiao Long Bao, we also ordered:

Steamed Shrimp and Pork Shao Mai 127775127775127775127775 - not your typical siomai. It's actually like the XLB, except there's shrimp.

Porkchop fried rice 127775127775127775127775127775 - unfortunately, I do not have any photo but this is also a must try. There's just something about the porkchop! Very flavorful and meat's not too thick so it's very easy to eat. The fried rice was also so good. We usually order this aside from the XLB.

Din Tai Fung really deserves a five star and the Xiao Long Bao is definitely the highlight of their menu. Comfort food! They're very consistent and I did not see any significant difference from the original Taiwan branch and the branches here in Manila.

Excellent child friendly restaurant , value for money and food is delicious!

- Service wise very good. Usher will welcome and help you settle in agreed table ,chair. Even described that the table "has a couch". Then offered a high chair since they saw us with a baby who can manage to sit down on her own.

- Menu selection was easy to navigate. We were given solo fliers and had ordered from there.

- Appetizers were also offered on the spot , we were hungry and the green beans looks delicious. Did not dissapoint.

- As soon as the food were ordered, an attendant will mix the sauce of Xialongbao. Also the kiddie plates were delivered.
So as the passport, stickers they give to kids. Definitely will come back. Few restaurants these days offer such treat to kids.

- Food is delicious, all freshly cooked. Beverage we had - Oolong tea and Ice tea rose (love it!)

- service charge is included in the bill. :)

One of the biggest feasts just for two. I couldn’t walk after 128514

We ordered for starters.
Green Squash and Shrimp Xiao Long Bao (Php 160 for 5 pieces) i think it had an acquired taste. I personally am used to meaty xiao long bao but it think if I eat it often I will grow to like it.
Pork and Roasted Garlic Xiao Long Bao (Php 160 for 5 pieces) I could eat 10 on my own. My favorite never fail flavor for XLB.

Then we ordered these two for sharing and both had generous serving of yang chao fried rice. It was like carbo loading for a marathon.
Fried Chicken Cutlet Rice (Php 285) the chicken cutlet was cooked like the taiwanese street food (extra large chicken) not complaining caused I liked it! 128588🏼
Pork Chop fried rice (Php 270) same cooking style packed with seasoning. No need for sauce whatsoever.

My boyfriend then added Crispy Shrimp and Pork wanton (Php 165 for 6 pieces) the sweet and sour sauce was divine I really don’t like those supermarket bought mixes. Huge shrimp chunks too which was a plus.

Ohh we also had dessert 128514 we got Golden Lava Salted Egg Yolk bun (Php 85 for 2 pieces) it was delicious.

A long snake of people is a familiar sight in front of Din Tai Fung SM Megamall. While I could not sample their famous Xiaolongbao, I still got to try some of their other dishes, which I listed below:

Shrimp and Pork Pot Stickers (P220)
These long dumplings resemble Japanese gyoza. Filled with ground meat and vegetables, they are a great starter. What makes these special is that these dumplings are stuck together on a long, crisp wonton sheet that provides a different texture to the dumplings.

Chicken Wings in Shrimp Paste (P255)
These tiny wings pack a lot of flavor. Salty, peppery, crispy on the outside and tender on the inside. Great with some rice.

Steamed Shrimp and Pork Shaomai (P200)
What surprises me is that the siomai also has something of a broth within the wonton wrapper. The tender shrimp gives way to the mild taste of ginger broth when the wrapper is cut.

Sweet and Sour Pork (P255)
A classic of the cuisine. Just the right amount of sweetness and sourness that makes it great with some rice.

Crispy Beef Strips (P235)
These tasty beef strips are as crispy as advertised, and they are great on rice.

Salted Egg Yolk Prawns (P395)
Thankfully the salted egg flavor is not as strong as on similar salted egg dishes that are all the rage these days. The sauce also seeps inside the shrimp, ensuring each bite is packed with flavor.

Fried Rice with Salted Fish (P180)
This is one of the best salted fish fried rice dishes that I tasted. Not too salty, with the vegetables cooked well enough to still retain their crunch.

Din Tai Fung Restaurant originating in Taiwan, specialising in xiaolongbao. Not really special as its highly rated. Maybe not my taste. I tried many dumplings restaurants and many of them have the same taste like this place.
It's not that I don't agree with the Michelin ratings; they're okey but ... Din Tai Fung’s dumplings are Michelin star in taste, not in price and take note only there xiaolongbao is good other dumpling128078.

Place was okay. Nothing special tho.

Black Peppered Pork: Meat was so tender and the sauce is super yummy. It's has the balance mixture of sweetness and saltiness. Definitely worth a try.

Fried Pork Chop: Meat was tender, juicy, and very tasty. Yum yum yum!

Fried Rice: This was soo good but sooo serving size is so small.

Xiao Long Bao: This is sooo good as well. However, the ginger taste is soo strong that you can really really taste it.

Chocolate Xiao Long Bao: This is soooo DIVINE. Super yummy. You can see, feel, and definitely taste the precious chocolate lava oozing from inside. Yoy should definitely try this one. Super worth it! It's so good!!!

Quite pricey since I find the serving size quite small. Nevertheless, taste is superb so it's definitely worth a try.

Friendly and accommodating staff. Service was fast as well.

Did I enjoy it? - Yes
Will I recommend it? - Yes
Will I come back? - YES

This is NACHO ordinary review, because it's my 100th looloo post! 128158127881 It has just BEAN a bit over 5 months since my first post, and now we're here. 128156 I also want to SIOMAI appreciation to Josh, as well as to my mom and sister, for always being so supportive and for accompanying me when I want to try out new restaurants. 128076

So today, after church, Josh and I went to Din Tai Fung in Megamall for lunch. When I saw the volume of people WHEAT-ing outside, I almost wanted to back out... But waited for our turn any-WHEY. And I'm SHIO glad we did! 128525 The receptionist told us we will be seated in around 15-25 minutes, but our number was called in around 10 minutes! We haven't even ordered yet, but I'm already smiling at how awesome this restaurant is.

They have given us an order slip when we first got our number, so by the time we were seated, we were able to place our orders as well. Food came quickly, and we were surprised that their kitchen staff (wearing proper food safety outfits with hairnet and spit guard) were the ones bringing out the food. 128513

Here's what we got:
✔ PORK XIAO LONG BAO (Php 160 for 5 pcs) - 1108811088110881108811088
With just one bite: I instantly became a believer. It's true that no other restaurant BEETS the Xiao Long Baos of Din Tai Fung! The soup was hot, but not scalding hot -- so it's easy to eat in one bite. The wrappers were quite thin, but I am amazed at how well it enveloped the soup and meat without breaking! DONUT forget to put some of the ginger sauce (The server told us we have to pour 1 part brewed soy sauce and 3 parts rice vinegar over the ginger) on to the XLB. 128076 I can probably eat 10 pcs of this in one sitting. 128514

✔ SHRIMP AND PORK WONTONS WITH HOUSE SPECIAL SPICY SAUCE (Php 185 for 6 pcs) - 1108811088110881108811088
My favorite dish for today is this one! It's probably un-CONE-ventional for diners to choose this over the XLB, but i liked this more. The sauce tasted soooo good! It was not too spicy, and it just possessed the right amount of zing. 128077 The pork and shrimp fillings were flavorful and of the right amount. We were told that we have to mix the wontons right away as it is served, hence the poor quality of photos for this PEAR-ticular dish. 128557

✔ SALTED EGG YOLK PRAWNS (Php 395) - 1108811088110881108811088
This was Josh's favorite among our orders. One bite and he instantly fell in love with this! 128158 I liked it as well, the taste of the salted egg yolk was so rich and legit (unlike some whose "salted egg" tastes ar-TEA-ficial), and they coated the prawns really well. The prawns were fresh and crunchy, and were cooked to the right doneness. My only complaint though, was that the serving size was a bit too expensive for the price. 128584

✔ FRIED RICE WITH SALTED FISH (Php 180) - 11088110881108811088
This can probably serve up to 3 people, but we finished it anyway. I love how the taste of the salted fish made the fried rice so flavorful, but did not make it too salty. I wish the rice could be a bit more al dente, though. It's a bit mushy for me... But maybe that's just me.

✔ ICED ROSE TEA (Php 55) - 1108811088110881108811088
I'm so glad I got this drink! When I get a bit overwhelmed with the various tastes of our orders, one sip can cleanse my palate very well. 128076 It isn't too sweet, and had a fragrant rose taste that added to the flavor depth of the tea. A must-try! 127861

While servers seem to be in a hurry always, I noticed they always remain smiling. Service was GRATE! 128076 They even have these bag holders, so you won't worry about having your bag sharing your seat with you. TACO bout great customer service right there. ✔ As first THYMErs, we didn't know that the bill is settled upon exit, so when we asked for the bill, we were directed to the cashier instead. No need to wait for the server to have the bill settled, bring it to you, deliver it back to the cashier, then give you the change! Wow, never thought this could be a thing. 128076

I agree with what Josh said earlier, this really has GOTO be the most ef-FISH-cient resturant we've visited, to date! Hands down, DTF really deserves being a 5-star Michelin awardee. And it also deserves to be featured for my 100th looloo review! 128525 (Can't wait to bring my mom and sister here, I'm sure they will love it!)

Cheers to more reviews ahead. 128158128076 So glad to be part of this awesome and friendly foodie community! 128516128516128516

One of my daily problems in life is figuring out where to eat. Mainly because I have so many places I want in and, despite having more than enough tummy space, my wallet will cry buckets of tears if I eat in all of them in one day.

When my cousin and I were in Megamall the other week, it took us around an hour figuring out where we want to eat. We initially ended up here in Din Tai Fung but, after we didn't find anything we want to eat besides Xiao Long Bao, we just decided to split a basket of that and move to another restaurant after lol

We went for the Pork Xiao Long Bao, which was good and flavorful. Always best eaten with the ginger and the vinegar. Though, I will always maintain that the Din Tai Fung branches overseas (like Singapore, for example) serve better Xiao Long Bao than the branches here. I wonder why that is 🤔
