Our last stop for this food crawl was Dong Bei Dumpling. Two words: KUCHAY DUMPLINGS! The place was relatively easy to find and it wasn’t full when we went, only one other table was occupied. I remember that we went on a Sunday and two other tables were only taken because it was being used by the staff - they were making the actual dumplings. I’m not sure if that’s the normal daily setup but the place is a bit small so hopefully those tables are freed up whenever there are more people.

On to the food! Again, the kuchay dumplings were bomb! A lot of the reviews here on looloo have highlighted those too so it isn’t just me haha we also tried their xiao long bao or soup dumplings during this visit and sadly, those didn’t impress. Both dishes only cost around 150 pesos each though so if you’re after a filling and affordable meal you should definitely check it out.

Overall, I would definitely visit this place again to maybe pick up some of those yummy kuchay dumplings with pork! 🤤 Dong Bei Dumpling was a good way to end our Binondo food crawl and the whole experience was awesome. To this day, I am amazed by how much love people in Chinatown have for their local cuisine. The places we visited were mostly packed with people who lived nearby and I think that’s a testament to the quality of food served in this area.

Mapapa-tumblings ka sa dumplings nila! (Catchy ba?)

Every week, every day, forever! (Charot!)

Bakit nga ba? Check natin:

At yung sauce?

Dumpling: Kuchay

If you have plans of going to Binondo, don't forget to drop by at Dong Bei Dumpling and get some kuchay. It is really good! You can see them making it from scratch and you can really tell that the food you're eating is fresh and not froze for a long time.

Loved it! 10084

This is the best dumpling in town. We did wait for at least 15 mins so we can share a table and it is worth it. Their Pork w/ Kuchay Dumpling is the best. I'm going back really soon.

I really love their kuchay dumplings and you know its freshly made coz they're doing it right next to the glass door. I'm not a fan of their xiao long bao. Service crews are very friendly but the place is too small that needs an upgrade.

My friends and I went on a DIY food walk around Binondo and found that this place was recommended as one the places to go eat in Binondo. After passing by a few other restaurants our time for Don Bei Dumplings came. We immediately greeted with "please stop from entering phrase" from one of the staff there as the place was full. We did not realize the the small group of people waiting in the blazing sun were customers in line to be seated. So, we gave in and found a spot on the street to hang around while we waited to be seated. It took maybe about 10-15 minutes then we got in. The shop is really a small hole in the wall restaurant, no wonder they couldn't fit to many people.

Ordering can get a little confusing as some of the dumplings you choose from seem the same. We asked helped from the staff and they explained the difference between similar dumplings. After a few minutes we made our decision and placed our orders.

I know the orders were fresh because the table next to us was the staff meticulously making dumplings like manufacturing line to fulfill the orders of the day. We received our dumplings and began to chow down. The dumplings are unique and you know are home made not like the low quality dumplings you get from a street corner food cart who serves frozen dumplings made from some sort of factory. After a minute or two of scarfing down the dumplings we were happy about the experience but a bit unsatisfied. Food was not as great as we expected it to be. I guess our expectations kinda rose up after waiting in line.

Bottom line is, Good place to get fresh made dumplings not store bought frozen factory manufactured dumplings.

Our favorite go-to dumpling house in Manila! So my friends came over my house and as usual, they wanted to eat here. Nothing beats authentic and affordable dim sum, huh? Good thing the place wasn't packed even if we went at almost dinner time. So we had dumplings (yum!), fried stuffed pan cakes (the bomb! First time to try this), and of course, xiao long bao. Personally, I liked xiao long bao the least, the wrapper was too thick for my taste and it was a bit dry.

Affordable, freshly-made & delicious food. I enjoyed the Xiao Long Bao, Stuffed Pancakes and most especially the HERBAL TEA! 10084

Ambiance: 11088

The place looks messy and unclean. We can see from our view a bin overflowing with trash. Not cozy at all and very small space.

Not thinking of coming back to this place any time soon. Their servers were rude. Food was okay. There are better xiao long baos in other restaurants. Didn't appreciate the kuchay dumplings. Sorry to the lovers of this restaurant, but maybe I'm just not a fan of kuchay dumplings. Bad ambiance (you can see the big basin of raw pork in their fridge while you're eating). Really messy restaurant.

A perfect example of don't judge the book by its cover. Their shop would be a nightmare to claustrophobics, but their Kutchay Dumplings would make up for the place's appearance. They make them fresh as you can see them making the wrappers from scratch, and mincing the vegetables on a huge chopping board.

I've tried a lot of Kutchay Dumplings, and none have beaten Dong Bei's so far. 128522

If you plan on going on a Binondo Foodie Hopping Spree, be sure to put this on your checklist.... Since I was going to show my friends around for a day of trying the famed chinese cuisine we had to have just the best bits of every restaurant 12852210084️ and this was the first stop 128522

So for starters we just grabbed a can of cold soda & fruit juice and started with these, the super affordable Xiao Long Bao and the Kuchay Dumpling ( instead of the usual pork ) ...Kuchay is a kind of chinese chives which is very much visible in dumplings and flaked pork rolls 12852210084

If you have a big appetite you could finish a plate but I believe it's more fun if it's shared so try to order different kinds and have fun finishing it hehehe 12852210084128077🏻 yum yum yum 128522

Straightforward and authentic dumplings made fresh, in fact, made right in front of you. Getting here can be a challenge, so we suggest parking at Lucky Chinatown and walk to the place. It is located in one of the side streets near Binondo Church. Super yummy dumplings!

Love the dumplings at dong bei! This whole plate of pork dumplings just costs 120. The rice wrapper is made right infront of you, almost always perfectly cooked, and holds up well when you pick it up. For first timers, i would recommend the soy bean sauce noodles, and pork dumplings. The xiao long bao is a close third to these two.

Four stars instead of fice because i found the dumplings 'too wet' when they served them during our visit.

It is impossible to go Binondo without trying out the dim sums and dumplings at Dong Bei. The people working here do an amazing job with creating exquisite, delicate dim sum, with popular items including Steamed Kuchay Dumplings, Xiao Long Bao, and Fried Vegetable Pancakes.

Many cultures have something similar like the Spanish tapas, the Greek Ouzeria, and the Japanese Izakaya, but dim sum is somewhat on a different level, very gastronomical and exquisite, and is truly special especially to us Asians.

The Fried Pancakes with minced pork and chives is one of the best and most memorable I ever eaten (plus it’s photogenic), and its Steamed Xiao Long Bao are all made delicately, are rich and of high quality.

You cannot beat the price of their dim sums and the quality is top-notch. The dim sums and dumplings at Dong Bei is definitely one of the 10 things you must experience in Binondo if you are a foodie.

Cheers
Mickey

Dong Bei dumplings is found in one of the smaller and less busy streets in the Binondo area. If you came from Binondo Church, walk straight until you see Shopper's Mart. Dong Bei is a few steps from the street before you arrive near that supermarket. If you're from the President Restaurant or other side of Ongpin, you'll have to turn right after the supermarket.

Carefully, look at your right side while walking since their signage is not that loud... shows how much of a hole in the wall type of resto it is. Their staff are always busy making dumplings every time I'm there! They actually eat up space in there. They politely vacated the tables when we arrived to give way for us.. 128077🏻

This I think is my third, if not second visit.

KUCHAY DUMPLINGS 3.5-411088️ 120php
Twelve pieces of kuchay dumplings. Taste is fairly good for the very cheap price. I do not compare it to the other more famous dumpling places. This is good.

XIAO LONG BAO 311088️ 120php
Six pieces. Very thick wrapper. As in it's too thick for me. It's okay for the price also. Very cheap. The umami soup was good so I just sipped it and ate the meat (underwhelming) and left the wrappers on the plates.

Overall a fair dumpling place in the area. Kuchay is a must-try! You may skip the xiao long bao if you don't want to get disappointed or if you're picky to those specialized dumplings.

P.S. Excited for Din Tai Fung's opening here in Manila! 128527128527

Since I'm in Sta. Cruz, I decided to try my luck and look for Dong Bei dumplings. After reading all the reviews I decided that it's time for me to judge the resto and give my own review. It's about 2km walk from Sta. Cruz church going to Dong Bei and if I knew that it will be near Binondo Church i should have parked there. When I asked the crew if they were open they immidiately let me in. It's a hole in a wall sort of resto about 5 tables and they are using 2 tables for their dumpliings. I asked for their best seller and they said that it's their kutchay dumplings and pork xiao long bao. I ordered for both and the waitress gave me a complimentary house tea to clean my palate and to make it ready for my dumplings and xlbs. When the first batch arrived, I immidiately ate a pc of dumpling and closed my eyes to wait for the symphony of flavors to burst. Lo and behold there was no symphony, I find it ok normal flavor but without the soy vinegar and chili sauce it would not stand in it's own. Maybe I was expecting too much but after I atr my 4th dumpling still there was no magic. The xlbs came and I imagibed thatt it will give lugang cafe a run for it's money, but sad to say it did not even come close to lugang. Don't get me wrong, I liked what i ate in Dong Bei even the service deserves a star in it's own but at least I tasted and tried the place. Moving forward, I'm ok with my Ding Bei experience. Ciao.

They are famous for their Kutchay dumplings. It's freshly made daily. There are other stuff on the menu that is equally good. Just make sure that the owner is their to cook for your order because the wait staff can only cook the Kutchay dumplings. It already happened to me twice.
