My first time to be here and i love the place already.

The guy in the bar was very approachable i just forgot the name (maybe the owner) he even suggested their new toasted sandwich (i forgot the sandwich name but it’s a beef blah blah). So we ordered and it was good!128154🧡 the plating was cool. So we are not required to remove the pickles because it was serve separately! 128521128521 a little fatty for the beef itself.

We ordered also the iced chocolate, also good especially if you are not into the sweet-chocolate drink.

Just a bit curious about the glasses for the drinks. Do we have to request for the glass one or not? Because everybody was drinking in a glass and us was in the disposable cups..hehe

There is this cat roaming around. Don’t worry i think he’s harmless.
If mosquitoes like you better bring some insect repellant :)

No San Juan trip is complete without dropping by El Union, of course.

Ordered a dirty white, a dirty horchata, and a grilled cheese with bacon jam during our stay here. Arguably the best grilled cheese for me, still. The sriracha on the side elevates the meal further.

I've been to La Union countless of times, but I never really had the chance to try this little boho-themed cafe.

El Union Coffee is a hip café found along the MacArthur National Highway in San Juan- a favorite destination for anyone’s much-needed caffeine fix. It’s a cozy casual spot which can accommodate just about 10 to 15 persons at a time, making it a bit more intimate. The atmosphere has a really chill vibe and they play really good music here.

I am not really into the world’s top beverage of choice, coffee (plus I am no cinnamon lover), but I still gave their famous Dirty Horchata (P120) a try. Guess what? I actually kind of liked it, srsly. Maybe, just maybe, someday I’ll get into the habit and enjoy it.

..aaaaaand here's the real deal, their best selling Grilled Cheese Sandwich (that made me rate them 5 stars) for P160! Oh maaan, one of the best comfort food you'll ever find in La Union! It's super good even without the bacon jam! Not to exaggerate or whatsoever, but this food made me really kilig! HAHA.

It’s hard not to recommend El Union Coffee, now that I've tried it. Promise, I'll be back for their grilled cheese sandwich!!! ...and of course, to try other items on their menu.

P.S. I so love how eco-friendly they are.

P.P.S. If you're a cheese-addict like me, don't hesitate to double your order for their grilled cheese sandwich!

Our second stop in ELYU is the laidback and carefree El Union coffee.

One of their best seller is smores for my sweeth tooth. The small size is enough for sharing for 2 persons. You can opt to have additional grahams. It's sweet guilty pleasure of the smores will be balance with the bread, butter and cheese of their grilled cheese and sriracha on the side. There is a bacon jam that you can add, however, the grilled cheese itself is enough for me. Geez! I need this comfort foods in my life.

Since I don't have any idea about their drinks, the barista recommended the horchata. And since I'm not familiar I had second thoughts about it. Horchata originated from Mexico which is basically rice milk, vanilla extract, almond essence and cinnamon. Grateful for the barista and my friend for pushing me to try this one. Didn't know that this horchata would be damn addicting. It really suits my taste since I'm into creamy goodness. My friend got his dirty horchata which has espresso. I love my horchata more than his dirty horchata.

Never thought I would keep bugging my friend saying let's have “ortaxa”. I can barely pronounce it though. 🤭🤣

Before leaving ELYU, we had our take two on this one! Probably one of the reason I would go back to ELYU. It's kinda pricey but worth every penny. 128076🏻128076🏻

I've been so many times to San Juan La Union, but for so many unfortunate event this is my 1st time to try El Union. On one of my try they were close due to team building and on this visit it was almost another failure. On this visit, the bus we rode from manila arrived early in Elyu that's why we decided to proceed to El Union as early as 5-6am I think. We were thinking this is perfect there are no people around yet we can have a good pictorial. At around past 7am the barista shockingly told us that there is a power outage and they can't use the espresso machine and the horchata got spoiled. Waaaah!!! Malas nga naman talaga. So we just went straight to another place. :(

In the afternoon finally power went back up. This time I'm sure El Union I'll be able to try you. When we arrived in El Union as expected the place was jampacked! So I just ordered the dirty ice horchata and I was happy that with all the effort the drink was satisfying. One of the better horchata that I've tried. Definitely be coming back again. Hope my luck will be on my side. :)

Perfect place to get breakfast when you’re in San Juan La Union. Grilled cheese with Bacon Jam and Sriracha on the side plus Horchata was THE BEST! Probably the reason why I would go back to Elyu. 128514

It’s pricey, but worth the try! 128076🏼

Since my disappointing coffee at The Coffee Library, I had to hit El Union for some caffeine boost. Unfortunately again Dirty Horchata is not available 128546 Food wise, my Elyu trip has been a roller coaster one. Haha. So I had their Cold Brew Latte which is interesting since it has a smooth coffee and milk blend. It gives off quite a caffeine kick. Really enjoyed it. El Union is always the reliable caffeine place it has always been. It’s pretty chaotic on weekends so make sure to have your patience with you.

Make sure to drop by at El Union when in La Union. We tried the Nitro Cold Brew and S’mores. It’s a delicious bitter sweet combination. S’mores was sooooo goood! Planning to go there again later to have S’mores. 🤤

Grilled cheese with bacon jam. Arguably the best grilled cheese I’ve ever tried. The additional 40php for the jam is worth it guys don’t scrimp on this!

Dirty Horchata. Also (and still arguably) the best horchata I’ve ever tried. A close to perfect concoction of rice milk with just the right shot of espresso that doesn’t overpower the whole drink. Lovely.

And then of course we have the Indoor S’mores. For me, the small version is already large enough for four people to share since the dessert is extremely sinful, what with all the marshmallow and Nutella goodness. Be prepared to shell out additional money for extra grahams. This is best paired with a Dirty White, their iced version of flat white, which is another favorite of mine and one of the most well-balanced version I’ve tried.

No one goes to and leaves La Union without at least trying El Union and come back again and again each time. I’ve watched it grow and change over the years while continuing to serve consistently great food and coffee, and sustain a charming community that never fails to give off a sense of belongingness.

I couldn’t believe that this is going to be my first review of this coffee shop here on |ooloo ‘coz I’ve been here like more than 10 times already. There’s something about this place, I’m not sure if it’s magic or magnet or what but I just keep on coming back.

My default order is their Dirty Horchata. Well if you read Denise J’s article on |ooloo insights (see what I did there? I’m reading!!!), horchata (pronounced as or-cha-ta) is a drink that the Spaniards invented. It was originally called horchata de chufa but later on just called horchata as Mexicans used rice as main ingredient instead of chufa nuts. There are a lot of variations now in this drink and one of my favorites is the one with coffee in it.

El Union’s version is very refreshing with strong kick of caffeine. It has cinnamon powder on top which I find very addicting. You couldn’t just leave Elyu without trying this drink.

Five stars for El Union. As always. 10084

Everytime I go to El Union Coffee and write a review, it’s always about coffee and that damn addicting Dirty Horchata. So this time, food naman! 128514

In the photos are two of their bestsellers, Grilled Cheese and Buttermilk Pancakes! Their Grilled Cheese is always gooood! I believe many would agree with me, I love the crunchy outer layer of the toast then the gooey cheesy inside. Though it’s super bitin, seriously. 128531 I dunno if matakaw lang ako but one order is not enough. HAHA! Annnd, the Buttermilk Pancakes are TDF! Super fluffy and thick, it’s perf with the bacon jam. 🤤

Still wishing they’d bring their food on their pop-up coffee bar in BGC. Hehe.

A trip to LU wouldn't be complete without stopping by El Union Coffee -- you ask why? Grilled Cheese Sandwich and Dirty Horchata!

To be honest, I find the sandwich to be really small for its price (Php160 + 40 for bacon jam). BUT the awesome taste of grilled wheat bread and cheese (mozzarella and more cheese?) was so good that I wanted to order another one.

The Dirty Horchata was pretty good too. It's Php120 well-spent on coffee rather than getting mediocre coffee from famous coffee shops.

Service was pretty straightforward. They get and give your order with a smile. :) Typical elyu -- everyone's just nice!

I can't wait to go back here again. I'd definitely recommend this to friends and family. I'll also make sure to buy 3 orders of Grilled Cheese Sandwich!

One shall never leave LU without having a glass (or three) of Dirty Horchata. 128514128525 I swear there’s just something in this drink that has its hooks on people!

Horchata is a Hispanic drink made of ground rice, almonds, milk, cinnamon and other spices. Dirty Horchata because El Union added espresso to it. This drink is an insane crowd favorite. It’s refreshing and also provides you the caffeine kick you need.

I also had a sip of their Flat White. Also insanely good. Seriously, there’s nothing on El Union’s menu that’s bad. Lol. 128517

We visited LU on a very busy weekend and most of the people seem to flock to El Union Coffee, it’s like the new “It” place where the cool kids hangout. Haha! I was craving for their pancakes when we were there but sadly they weren’t taking orders for food anymore. Only drinks. That’s how jampacked the place was. 128566

Anyway, El Union Coffee has a “not so secret” pop-up store in BGC! Imagine my intense delight when I found out. 128514 Message Norman Lester T to know where. HAHA! 974997499749

The quaint ambiance boasts of classic La Union beachfront and surfing vibes. Their coffee offerings vary for aficionados and amateurs alike, based on their composition - however, you’d be likely to come across better-tasting coffee elsewhere, if that’s the main criteria. I’d recommend the horchata iced coffee for that mild cacao-milk twist. The s’mores is abundant in chocolate and mallow, but could use more graham crackers for proportionality’s sake. I’d suggest this for those up for that sugar-high, due to its extremely sweet taste.

The place is aesthetically pleasing, rendering the place great for photo-taking. Overall, the experience was great; the servers are welcoming and the open-air resto contrasts the iced coffee nicely.

I only tried Smores when we visited El Union since it’s the most talked about item on the menu. I’d say it’s not for people who don’t have a sweet tooth, but for me it deserves the hype. I like how they run the place. Customers aren’t king since they’re strict about their claygo policy. If you don’t clean up and attempt to leave, they will actually call your attention.

I think what’s more amazing other than the food and drinks is the laid back vibe of the place. It probably reflects the style of the owners. I read an article where it says that the owners of El Union permanently escaped the city life and move to Elyu from Manila. They brought their kids along who are now “unschooled”. I learned a lot about “unschooled” children because of them. Their desire to live a simple life by the beach is quite inspiring. I loved El Union even more when I read about the backstory.

El Union Coffee’s famous bites: Indoor S’mores and Grilled Cheese. Maybe I didn’t order their bestsellers on my first visit so it may not have ended up as a delightful coffee experience. But the thing is, if your store name has "coffee" in it, all your coffee selections must be top-notch. You can't call yourself a cafe with just a chosen few to be tagged as awesome coffee and the rest are just sub-par blends.

According to Instagram users, this local café is a must-visit in San Juan. We had high expectations for their coffee, but after tasting their Nitrogen Cold Brew and Mocha creations, we’ve come to a conclusion: You’ve had a better cup of joe elsewhere. (This is why I don’t trust Instagram when it comes to food and drinks.)

But their Indoor S’mores and Grilled Cheese with additional bacon jam are a good combination for breakfast. The s’mores, even in its small serving, is a simple and sweet guilty pleasure, and balancing the food act is the medley of mozzarella, cheddar, a generous amount of bacon bits in between perfectly grilled and buttered slices of bread. This café has perfected the comforting snacks we love.

Among the other things you’ll love about El Union are the owners’ kids, Cadence, Dylan and Adam. The little folks are used to tourists in their surf town and are naturally warm and friendly, sitting beside your table to ask how your vacation is so far. Dylan even showed us the second floor of the café, where you can chill on beanie bags and read their small collection of books. You’re also gonna see these kids around the beach come afternoon.

When in ElYu, one shouldn't miss the chance to stop by and hang out at El Union Coffee.

A hip, laid-back and welcoming coffee shop, both locals and tourists alike frequent the place because of its simple yet visually pleasing interiors and its straightforward and totally delicious drinks and snacks.

For myself, I got the Dirty Horchata and Smores which are amongst their bestsellers. My friends got the Sweet Chai O' Mine, Cappuccino and Cold Espresso.

The Dirty Horchata was one favorite of the crowd. Its Western taste, combining wheat, milk, etc. made it really refreshing for my tastebuds. The Smores was so sinful given that it was perfectly baked and the chocolate was lit!

The Sweet Chai O' Mine, another bestseller, tasted like lemon iced tea but more organic and healthy. The two others were just the usual.

Always, I wont get tired of going back here because why not, it's really one of the must visits in LU! ♥️

Ordered S'mores that's good for 4-6 people and later on realized that we could've just ordered the one that's good for 1-2 persons. It was yummy and was overflowing with all sorts of sweetness! It was too sweet for my liking tbh, but still wouldnt take a pass on it while in Elyu!

We also had drinks - dirty white, dirty horchata and iced mocha! The dirty white was really good, you can have it sweetened if you're not so much into drinking strong coffee.

El Union should be the first place to go to when craving for coffee and dessert in La Union.

Their best seller would be the Iced Dirty White, you can order it neat or sweetened. They also serve S'mores and Skillet Cookie, though you kinda look for a scoop of Vanilla ice cream to compliment that warm cookie dough.

Also try their Grilled Cheese Sandwich which they serve with Sriracha hot sauce. 128076
