El Union Coffee’s famous bites: Indoor S’mores and Grilled Cheese. Maybe I didn’t order their bestsellers on my first visit so it may not have ended up as a delightful coffee experience. But the thing is, if your store name has "coffee" in it, all your coffee selections must be top-notch. You can't call yourself a cafe with just a chosen few to be tagged as awesome coffee and the rest are just sub-par blends.

According to Instagram users, this local café is a must-visit in San Juan. We had high expectations for their coffee, but after tasting their Nitrogen Cold Brew and Mocha creations, we’ve come to a conclusion: You’ve had a better cup of joe elsewhere. (This is why I don’t trust Instagram when it comes to food and drinks.)

But their Indoor S’mores and Grilled Cheese with additional bacon jam are a good combination for breakfast. The s’mores, even in its small serving, is a simple and sweet guilty pleasure, and balancing the food act is the medley of mozzarella, cheddar, a generous amount of bacon bits in between perfectly grilled and buttered slices of bread. This café has perfected the comforting snacks we love.

Among the other things you’ll love about El Union are the owners’ kids, Cadence, Dylan and Adam. The little folks are used to tourists in their surf town and are naturally warm and friendly, sitting beside your table to ask how your vacation is so far. Dylan even showed us the second floor of the café, where you can chill on beanie bags and read their small collection of books. You’re also gonna see these kids around the beach come afternoon.

When in ElYu, one shouldn't miss the chance to stop by and hang out at El Union Coffee.

A hip, laid-back and welcoming coffee shop, both locals and tourists alike frequent the place because of its simple yet visually pleasing interiors and its straightforward and totally delicious drinks and snacks.

For myself, I got the Dirty Horchata and Smores which are amongst their bestsellers. My friends got the Sweet Chai O' Mine, Cappuccino and Cold Espresso.

The Dirty Horchata was one favorite of the crowd. Its Western taste, combining wheat, milk, etc. made it really refreshing for my tastebuds. The Smores was so sinful given that it was perfectly baked and the chocolate was lit!

The Sweet Chai O' Mine, another bestseller, tasted like lemon iced tea but more organic and healthy. The two others were just the usual.

Always, I wont get tired of going back here because why not, it's really one of the must visits in LU! ♥️

Ordered S'mores that's good for 4-6 people and later on realized that we could've just ordered the one that's good for 1-2 persons. It was yummy and was overflowing with all sorts of sweetness! It was too sweet for my liking tbh, but still wouldnt take a pass on it while in Elyu!

We also had drinks - dirty white, dirty horchata and iced mocha! The dirty white was really good, you can have it sweetened if you're not so much into drinking strong coffee.

El Union should be the first place to go to when craving for coffee and dessert in La Union.

Their best seller would be the Iced Dirty White, you can order it neat or sweetened. They also serve S'mores and Skillet Cookie, though you kinda look for a scoop of Vanilla ice cream to compliment that warm cookie dough.

Also try their Grilled Cheese Sandwich which they serve with Sriracha hot sauce. 128076

This coffee shop was on my DEFINITELY SHOULD AND MUST VISIT list on our trip to ELYU. 10084️ I've seen so many photos and heard so many great things about the food and food so it would be a sin to miss it!

When we arrived at around 3PM on Saturday, the place was packed! 128563 I was surprised to see that it had very little seating space. There were 3 tables I think and some seats by the bar. It was quite cramped. But luckily, while we were deciding what to order, a group left and we got a table! 127881

Despite the heat, we stayed for over an hour. 128518 Mainly because we ordered so many food. 128517

9749️ DRINKS
• Horchata (PHP 120)
This is a drink originating from Mexico which is basically rice milk with vanilla extract, cinnamon and almond essence. It was a very light drink and our friend had two glasses of this. 128514

• Dirty Horchata (PHP 150)
Add a shot of espresso to the Horchata and you get a Dirty Horchata. I was actually really happy with this drink. It wasn't too strong and it wasn't too milky either. Maybe because it was using rice milk and not regular milk that's why I enjoyed it better. A good balance to all the sweet stuff we had.

• Dirty Draft Latte (PHP 150)
I didn't get to taste this one very well since I only had a sip. But it didn't leave a bad impression. This is their recommended coffee 128077🏼

• Nitro Cold Brew (PHP 120)
My friend J wanted to try the cold brew after finishing her Dirty Draft Latte and we all got wide eyed after taking a sip. To quote, "It's as black as my soul" 128514 Yes it was very strong. But it was also very very good. If only I wasn't watching my caffeine intake, I would have had one myself. 128517

🧀 FOOD
• Grilled Cheese (PHP 160) / with Bacon Jam (+PHP 40)
‼️‼️ BEST GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH EVER ‼️‼️
I cannot emphasize this enough!!! 100841008410084️ We were all excited to try the Grilled Cheese Sandwich so we ordered 3 (for 5 people) and eventually the other 2 wanted another one so our table ended up having 4 grilled cheese sandwiches. 128514

OOZING CHEESE 🧀 BACON JAM 🥓 What more can you ask for??? The bread 127838 was toasted to perfection!!! PLUS THAT SRIRACHA! 🌶 Yum! Definitely a good match!

I WANT MORE. 128557

127850 DESSERT
• Indoor S'mores (Small PHP 160 - Big PHP 300)
We got the small order only because we still had the cookie and dishes from Great Gamble. The small order was enough despite it's size. The marshmallows were perfectly torched 10084️ The insides were gooey and chocolatey, the top was hard and had a bit of a crunch! Good to have some strong coffee with it because of its sweetness.

• Skillet Cookie (PHP 240)
They had 2 types of the skillet cookie - classic chocolate chip and milo cookie. We opted for the classic despite my curiosity for the milo cookie. 128514 This was the last item to be served because it took a while to bake in the oven. But it was worth the wait! 128525 The chocolate chip cookie was heavenly!!! Crispy on the outside, soft and gooey on the inside!!! 10084️ Every bite we took had chocolate chips in it! It was also quite sweet so best to pair it with coffee. 128077🏼

OVERALL, El Union Coffee did not disappoint. 10084️ Hope to come back again!!!

A Surfers hut in almost everything about it - laid-back and carefree. It is one of the few places where you never bring impatience with you in terms of speed of service because its all about allowing the seabreeze to caress your skin, let the sunlight bristle across your face, and the smell of coffee and grilled cheese tease your nostrils while you wait with a smile. Remember, the staff are not chefs, they are surfers like all of us. And just like the waves of La Union, a good wave is certain to come, but timing is uncertain - so be willing to wait because their flat white is great, the smores are hearty, and their grilled sandwiches and comforting. Trust me its worth the wait! 1108811088110881108811088

One of the most popular places in La Union is this coffee shop. Some loved it, some thought that it's hyped. I'm not a coffee lover so I opted for their grilled cheese while my s/o ordered the Dirty Horchata and some smores.

The place was a little packed when we went there. The place was just small. I thought that they have a spce upstairs but the foreign barista told me that it's not a part of the shop.

For the grilled cheese, honestly, I enjoyed it! And I didn't know that grilled cheese goes well with hot sauce! 128517128561128558128551 Has this been a thing even before? Haha sorry I really had no idea. The smores was good as well and the Dirty Horchata according to my dearest.

The grilled cheese and smores are 160php, while the Dirty Horchata is 150php. The food was a little overpriced while the drink is I think just okay, given its serving size. But I think I'll be back here to try the Horchata.

Hype Hype Hype. 128555

Not sure if we ordered the wrong drinks or it was just a bad batch/bad day/bad mix??? because our drinks weren't as good as we expected it. I was expecting to be blown away by their coffee because of all the positive and really good reviews.. but sadly... I was not.. we were not..... 128557128557

ICED MOCHA. Too strong, too bitter. It's like drinking the strongest and most bitter iced brewed coffee. We had a hard time trying to find/taste even the slightest slightest slightest hint of chocolate. 128549

HORCHATA. Not sure how this should taste.. it was weird? The taste was too hard to explain. I just can't. 128528

Maybe we were all just used to the usual creamy/sweet/chocolatey drinks. Maybe we're not "coffee people". Maybe we should have asked for sugar or idk. Maybe it's just us. Maybe.

SERVICE was also bad. The "surfer long messy hair barista guy" was so not helpful. He was not friendly, nice nor accommodating. He would just give a cold one liner reply to all of my questions. Thanks!! 128530 Maybe we could have enjoyed our experience if only he was nice enough to explain the drinks or at least ask us what we want. Maybe he was just not in the mood or he just doesn't like us. Maybe.

Will I come back? I'm not really sure. Would love to give them another chance, though. Next time, maybe?

Drinks weren't that good for us but the meals were pretty good and we actually liked what we tried. 128522 #thereishope 128541

We ordered the GRILLED CHEESE SANDWICH (160) and the INDOOR SMORES (160 for the small size).

GRILLED CHEESE. Toasted bread with just the right amount of cheesy goodness. I actually liked it especially with the hot sauce. Too bad lang since I was hoping to try this with the bacon jam but it was not available during our visit. 128549

SMORES. Usual smores but we enjoyed eating this because of the generous marshmallow and chocolatey goodness (which our drinks lacked!!).

Will I come back? For the Grilled Cheese and smores, 100% YES!! For the drinks, MEHHHHH-YBE? 🙄🤔

El Union is a few steps away from where we stayed in La Union and having driven in the morning and chasing my sister around for their shoot, I needed my caffeine even if it's 8.30pm.

The folks are not as accommodating as the usual 3rd wave stores we have in Manila but I don't need someone to hug me or hold my hand while preparing my order. 128514

I ordered 2 Dirty White and 1 Iced Horchata. The horchata was a wonderful drink and the dirty white was just how I wanted it. Your drinks get prepared by shirtless baristas/surfers/baegotes and you can also ask if they can brew it via pour over instead of using the espresso machine. Went back the next day prior to leaving La Union and got a different drink. The Dirty Horchata was a bit problematic though as the coffee overpowered the whole horchata taste experience. It was wonderful when we just poured some of the Dirty White, but changed everything with 1 (full) shot of espresso.

Take away cups are charged Php10 each and they don't have straws or cup covers. No issue with that. So you just cover it while walking along the highway. Watch out for the buses and speeding cars!

Will I return? Yes.
Will I get a different drink next time? Yes.
Will I tell my friends about this place? Yessss.

Anyone who knows me surely knows that I can't live without coffee. I just have to get my caffeine fix everyday! Even when I'm out of town I have to get that coffee! Naturally, I wouldn't pass up the opportunity to try out El Union Coffee now that I've finally visited LU.

I've been hearing really good things about El Union Coffee all the way back from Manila. And I was like, "They are that good?" Tha answer is yes, they are that good! Maybe even better.

We came here right after a long bus commute. I was really tired and cranky by then but the aroma of freshly made coffee and that just that wonderful coffee smell instantly lifted my mood. I ordered a hot Flat White and the boyfie ordered Cold Brew Horchata.

The Flat White was amazeballs! But then I had a sip of the BF's Cold Brew Horchata. And dang, believe me! My life changed! I have decided. It's the best drink I've ever tasted in my life! I'm not sure what the barista put in there but it was just an amazing drink! I was so hooked that we came back in the morning. I ordered the Cold Brew Horchata for myself this time and Iced Mocha for the BF. 10084

On the afternoon that we first came here the place was packed, we were lucky to have the last two seats. And on the next day it was just a slow Monday, we were their second customers.

Also, can I just add that it's hypnotizing to watch the baristas prepare your coffee? The people there really know their stuff!

But seriously, crossing my fingers and praying to the coffee gods that they'd open a store in Manila! 9749

The place looked great and their drinks were good. I tried Horchata which is a Mexican rice milk drink. It had a hint of cinnamon, reminiscent of the taste of french toast. There isn't much options for food though. Service was generally ok but they were not as accommodating as what I'm used to with more well known coffee shops like Starbucks and CBTL. But overall, the place was not so bad. It can be your go to place if you just want your coffee fix or if you just want a place to hang out.

Ordered Dirty Horchata, Smores and Grilled Cheese sandwich with Bacon Jam. Everything was so delish and excited all my senses!

I love the Dirty Horchata so much since I am a fan of anything cinnamon and the drink was able to achieve a perfect blend of espresso and horchata without overpowering one another. Worth it for 150 bucks since it's so filling and the serving is big.

I also know now why everyone is raving about the grilled cheese sandwich. The bacon jam and sriracha sauce made more mouth-watering. Serving was little though and I could've ordered another but it's quite expensive :(.

Lastly, smores. Not too sweet and burnt just right.

El Union is one of the reasons why I will keep coming back to La Union.

Been to this place once and it's really cozy but the ventilation is not that good but the grilled cheese is awesome 128076🏻 would definitely recommend to everyone. We tried their bestseller drink iced dirty horchata but I did not enjoy it I just love the smell of the cinnamon.

There is a hip café in San Juan that the surfers frequent and it’s called El Union Coffee. The best thing about it, they serve specialty coffee so you can be sure that their coffee drinks are of quality.

I didn’t know which drink to order so I asked the barista for his recommendation. I wanted something cold; he suggested dirty horchata.

Horchata is a cold drink with rice milk, cinnamon, almond essence, and vanilla extract. They call it Dirty Horchata when it has espresso. There is something unique to the taste of this drink that separates it from any of the iced coffee drink that I had before. It was nice but could use more espresso. Somehow the rice milk dulled the coffee flavor. But it was refreshing, which is just what I needed that hot afternoon.

The grilled cheese came with Sriracha sauce. Why would anyone put this red hot sauce in a cheese sandwich?! Beats me, but I tried it anyway to see if they are on to something and apparently, they are. For some reason it works, the sauce did something to enhance the taste of the sandwich that I finished the sandwich in no time.

I was also able to try flat white, it was rich and creamy. I contemplated about buying their bestseller, s’mores but eventually decided against it.

If you're going to San Juan and you're a coffee lover like me, you shouldn't miss El Union Coffee.
