WHAAT. Ever since I've been in Escobar two weeks ago, I keep on coming back. Cubao X is really my kind of place because of artsy people, artworks everywhere, galleries, restos, good music and all! 128525

I ordered cheese sticks since I had dinner at BonChon already. Place isn't crowded last night so we were able to get our table. We still ordered drinks and brought it on the sidewalk tho. 128513128076

I'm not really bar person tho. 128514

I DIDN'T EXPECT TO LIKE CUBAO X!!! 128561 Woah. Such a nice chill place with nice and artistic people and artistic shops and all. 128525 Art galleries anywhere and vintage stores. Ahhhh. How come I never came to this place before? Been hearing about it for so many times since college and I just went there last Tuesday! 128513 Well, thanks to my workmates. 9786

We were supposed to have burgers at this certain resto there but it was closed already! 128553 So my mates said we should just eat and chill at Escobar. Open place, people are drinking and eating and catching up. It was obvious that I am a first-timer cos I kept on taking photos of artworks! 128514

My mates and I ordered tapsilog, some rum coke, beer, and tokwa't baboy. Everything is cheap but good! 128077

I wanna go back to this place. I mean, Cubao X! Damn. Artwoooooorks in a chill place, huh. 128525

When in Cubao Expo you will walk by Escobar and think nothing of it. You wouldn't be the first, it's shabby and in disrepair, with cases of beer piled up right where you eat and on the sole visible wall, what passes for artwork in a dive bar. So you keep walking, which is what we did on a Friday afternoon. We were excited, headed straight for Sweet Ecstasy, of burger and milkshake fame, only to be disappointed: they open at 4 PM. CubaoEx customer hours are definitely something to get used to.

Hungry and frustrated we didn't check store times ahead (pro tip!) all I wanted at that moment was Charlie's Double Black Angus Cheeseburger. But this indie art hub invites you in and knows how to keep you interested. Because it was when we entered a shirt store that prints band collab merchandise that we got a whiff of the most amazing smell of sisig, grilled pork, and ham. Yup, clothing store=savory appetizing scent. (Or maybe we were just really hungry) The store attendants were only just about to eat lunch at 2 and they had the plates by the counter. We asked where they came from, they said "try mo Escobar, masarap talaga sila" and then enumerated some favorites. That was all it took, and a minute later we were sitting in the last place we expected to eat in a restaurant row that includes Bellini's, among others.

Quick survey of the menu tells you food and drinks are cheap (you expect nothing less), bar food staples abound, and maybe you can just buy water for the next two hours as you wait for SweetEcs to open. Ha. Ha. But we ordered anyway, rice meals are 65 Php, so we got to try their Tapsilog, Bangus, and Salisbury steak. But the real find was their sisig, and at 150 Php it was a burnt-ish pork revelation. Hey, you eat what you want when you can get it and at that moment we loved sisig. Washed it all down with the cheapest beers I've had in while. At 30 Php! (180/bucket) Come with good company and that's a good time.
So am I saying come back to CubaoEx for Escobar? Nope, if that's all then save the commute. But when you're here after some shopping or the day's winding down there's a place you can get a hot bowl and a cold one without breaking the bank.

(PHP 65) for tapsilog

Their tapsilog is always inconsistent. Sometimes it's good, sometimes it's bad. Probably depends on the cook.
128003
When I get good tapsilog the beef is soft and not very salty just right.
128003
When I get bad tapsilog it's very bland even with vinegar and the beef's very hard to chew.

It's always a mystery every time I order. I'll never know which of the tapsilog's gonna be for me. 128515 or 128532
