Ilocos Empanada!!! Tried alot of versions here in Manila but nothing is as good as Fariñas Ilocos Empanada. Though the original at Ilocos is still the best, but in times when cravings hit and you can't afford to travel at least 12 to 16 hours just to satisfy that craving...Fariñas is the best next option.

I've always been craving for Ilocos empanada, since the last time I've been to Ilocos was more than 10years ago. Good thing I've found out about this place tru FB. The foods are so affordable, like Special Empanada which contains Vigan Longganisa and Egg which cost only Php50. Then their special miki which is a lomi like noodle served with Egg and Chicharon which cost Php75. And other dishes, so since me and my husband live at Parañaque we've decided to try out one of their branches at Betterliving which is very near our hospital for prenatal checkups, Parañaque Doctors Hospital. Yup, I'm currently pregnant (33 weeks to be exact) and I can't help but have our dinner here every night after my checkups. Always ordered Empanada and it never failed to put a smile in my face because of it's taste. It was so good that I never got tired of including it in my orders when I dine at Fariñas. The only negative thing about this branch was the staffs. They're not really friendly at all, I've been to this branch several times and not once have I seen the cashier smile or greet customers before taking orders. Though I try to understand that their job may not be that easy or comfortable since Fariñas is an open door branch meaning it's not air-conditioned so the work environment can be a bit harsh. But going back to the food, Fariñas is so far the best resto I've tried if your just looking for vigan longganisa, bagnet, chicharon and ofcourse ilocos empananda. 128513

They seem to be out of empanadas a lot lately, the longanisa meal is ok but a little salty and the staff was uninterested in serving.

Pancit Bagnet?!? Are you serious? I mean, imagine chunks of goody good bagnet garnished on top of Pancit ---- that's just crazy! Crazy good, I mean! So when I saw this last week, I didn't really forget about it. Yesterday, around merienda time, hubby asked me what I wanted to eat since I eat too little each meal that I tend to look for something to fill in the hours in between. Suddenly, I remembered our Farinas discovery last week. I immediately asked for Pancit Bagnet 128523

I was imagining pancit bihon or pancit canton with the usual way they're cooked - some soy sauce, veggies, maybe squid balls and then smothered with crazy loads of bagnet. The Pancit came and I got confused. It had all the elements of a pancit bihon but they used miki as the pancit itself. You know that type used in Lomi? Or the fettuccine looking pancit? There!

The noodles were pale and too soft, soaked in sauce that had too much black pepper for my liking. It had generous heaping of veggies, alright, which were crispy and a crazy load full of bagnet and chicharon! You can actually scream for extra rice! It's also garnished with hard boiled egg. Overall, it was saucy and pepper spicy but the bagnet were crunchy and really good! After just a small serving, the umay factor kicked in and got a little dizzy probably because of the oil.

I would still prefer that lechon kawali bihon pancit in Cubao at anytime 128548

Went out yesterday after more than 2 weeks of house arrest and bed rest for my checkup! I appreciated the smell of outdoors and the cool breeze so much that I needed to stop for a while and savor the moment! 128522 Such simple things that we tend to appreciate and be thankful for everyday, right?!?

Anyway...my checkup went well. On our way home, hubby was a little hungry and he asked if it was okay to grab a snack along the way. He saw This store offering Ilocos delicacies. I said yes!

I wanted to order a lot - empanada, bagnet, dinakdakan (whatever it was, it just sounded different!) and pancit bagnet! But then I had to remember that my tummy doesn't cooperate much when I eat fried food. I settled for one special Ilocos Empanada while hubby got himself bagnet meal and an empanada too.

The empanada was served really hot! I had to wait for a while before I can devour. It had that signature crunchy orange shell, the salty filling made of shredded veggies, some chopped bagnet, onions and since it was special, it had a whole egg at the center. It was good, especially when smothered with thet brownish vinegar -sukang Iloco! I didn't finish the whole thing, though it wasn't a big empanada because I didn't want to throw up there 128532

Then the bagnet! It came with a cup of rice, half of a salted egg, tomatoes and three thin slices of bagnet. The bagnet was crispy, oily and fatty! Ahahhaha! Just how it should be. But since it was sliced too thinly, shying away from the usual lechon kawali like cut, even the meat part itself was super crunchy. Anyhow, the hubby enjoyed the meal.

In terms of service - don't expect much. It's more like a decent carinderia, pay as you order and self-service.

I will definitely come back to try their pancit bagnet and Dinakdakan! 128521
