Breakfast of the champions for me and the bf. After running last week, we we’re looking for a place to eat at Maginhawa but we we’re kinda lost coz some of the old resto’s relocated on the cool new buildings. We were looking for Ally’s but found Farinas instead. The place was charming with the orange theme and the plants and trees perfectly complimenting the chosen color.

The bf got the breakfast rice special containing rice, red egg, bagnet and ilocos longanisa. Of course the bf loved the longanisa. It could have used more toasting minutes in the frying pan pan, but still it was great. The bf loved authentic Ilocos longanisa. He is Ilocano but does not consider himself one. The bagnet was thinly sliced and it was crunchy.

I got the Ilocos mami with bagnet, hard boiled egg, chicken bits and chicharon. The mami soup was colored orange. I was hesitant to eat it coz who eats orange mami? When I dug it, it tasted good, well more like great! I was expecting it to be oily or too savory coz of the color and soup thickness. It was umami in taste but not overpowering. It was not salty nor oily. I loved with mami bits goes well with the thick soup.

I also got ilocos empanada for finale. It was oily but darn it was good. It was too hot even if I cut it in half after it was served. The longanisa was yummy, the egg was a good flavor enhancer but the best past I guess were the veggies. It veggies were not overcooked. The icing on the cake was the Ilocos vinegar. It was not too sour and more of like the vinegar smelled like wine.

Service was slow bit forgivable. The waitress almost gave me two bowls of mami which I did not order. Good thing I returned the other bowl because it was the next tables order. Place was self service. You have to get your own glasses, utensils, ice and water. Don’t worry they have a water dispenser for the customers. Beware the small softdrinks costs 20 peos. I guess it’s the 8 pesos softdrinks in PET bottles.

Overall the experience was pure yumminess! I will come back. Note: street parking as usual.

It was out of impulse that we dined here last night and I've learned that a bit of a reasearch won't hurt much128517 I went for their bestseller, the ultimate empanada, but failed to find anything special about it. I rooted for the flavors inside the plainly served fried dough but ended up with the same plain feeling afterwards. To their defense, it isn't a bad dish but if they call this their 'ultimate' empanada, then I am not impressed. If it's this one to banner their menu, then they will have to find a way to lift it few notches up and break away from just being 'okay'.

I would love to try the other ones on their menu though, next time128513

I have been going here so many times. I can never get sick of their empanadas and their bagnet. I only had one incident that I was upset about but since then I know they're so far making up for it. No one is perfect anyways. I still love and adore you Fariñas.

Empanada and miki (norte version) for merienda! Love that i now have a taste of 'home' nearby :)

Empanada - good, but too much longganisa inside. If you like the papaya more than the meat, then the 'special' is good enough.

Miki - pretty falvourful 128077🏻

Craving for some empanada? This place surely can satisfy your empanada cravings and more! They not only serve different versions of empanada but they also have rice meals and the famous Ilocos miki.

Empanadas best enjoyed while its hot! I like their miki thats perfect for merienda or even for rainy season. I also like the place since its well kept and the people are friendly.

This place makes me want to visit Ilocos even more!

Thanks for the heads up Russel F

Waaah! Ive been wanting to have this for quite a while now...their Kalaayaan branch is already closed for months na. I checked it once and too bad i saw it closed down, nag crave pa naman ako one night.

Anyways, i'm glad they have one here in Malingap St. Had a quick tour around the street and so happy we had to sit and grab my fave empanada special. The picture shows my newly fried emps with their Ilocos Suka and a drink.

Self service ang peg nila. That time vacant ang tables inside pero we stayed outside kc naka reserve daw. We also were able to see the owner who arrived with his husband and son. 128522

Also, dito pala sa Malingap St yung Z compound, sinilip din namain but the Maginhawa food park is way better. imo.

Food's ok. If you don't mind self-service, you're gonna be ok.

Service was really bad! The crew forgot to cook our order so it took them more than 20 mins before they actually cooked our order.

The price of their food was reasonable around 80-150pesos per order. Empanadas were good and they range from 40-80pesos.

I ordered the Beef Tapa Rice and it was so good. I suggest that you order that if you decide not to order their famous Bagnet, Pinakbet na Bagnet and Ilocos Longganisa.

Vigan longganisa, bagnet, igado! 1278609749️They added poqui poqui, insarabasab and bangus in their menu. 128516 I really like this place-much bigger and near my place. But i hope they add more gulay to their list. 128077128077128077

Tonight's love story:

B: Are you home?
D: Almost.
B: Do you want Fariñas?
D: Yes! 128525

The End.

I've been to Ilocos once and from that trip I gathered that they have the best food in the entire country. Yes. THE BEST. Bagnet alone is enough for me to travel--what is it--14 hours? I don't remember. It felt like the longest trip of my life. But it was worth it when I finally arrived in Ilocos and tried bagnet for the first time.

This post isn't about Fariñas' bagnet though. (Haha ang labo.) It's about the Ilocos empanadas. The dish sounds like everything I could ever want. Crunch, egg, and longganisa. So we order a special. Turns out it's not that special. But the crunch factor does appeal to me. We make a mental note to order the extra special* next time. Apart from egg and longganisa the extra special* comes with "crunchy bagnet vegetables." Who knows what that entails but I'm in it for "crunchy" and "bagnet."

I've always wanted to go back to Ilocos to eat their delicious food again. While Fariñas didn't bring me back there tonight, I'm not giving up hope. There's still the extra special* empanada plus other favorites like poqui-poqui and bagnet to try. Hopefully my next visit to Fariñas will be more like the second trip to Ilocos that I know I'll enjoy.

*Totally forgot what it's called. Extra special? Super empanada? Empanada extreme? Basta the one with crunchy bagnet vegetables. I'm gonna try it next.
