Had our valentines date at finestra this year and it definitely is a far cry from all our annual valentines buffet dinners at spiral and fresh. Was lucky to get a hold on a table two days before valentines. Upon reservation, I was already informed that they will only be serving set menus, meaning, no ala carte entrees (to be honest, I was a little bit disappointed because their menu is actually very enticing!!! But it being Solaire's actually reassured me that the food and the overall experience will be great.

The interior design is beyond spectacular, very grand and classy. Love everything especially the chandeliers lit up by recessed lights. Beautifully designed and planned. Service was impeccable as well.

A three course menu for the price of 2500++ might be discouraging as I've had an 8 course menu at Strip for only 2000 before and that was unforgettable, but to give credit to them, Finestra's portions were really really big. We had all the set menus except the vegetarian one (kudos to them for actually thinking of vegans).

We were of course first served with the house bread. Lovely set and the dips were so good. Everyone enjoyed this part of the experience. I personally loved the white dip. Didnt get its name but it tastes a little bit like cheese? After that, the amuse bouche arrived. The amuse bouche is really a crucial part of a meal for me as it sets more realistic expectations. We were served with a tiny cheesy croquette and it was party in my mouth. Bursting with flavor and all that. My eyes literally widened. So good!

Moving on... I got the menu tre,

To begin
Pan-seared goose liver with caramelized apples and eggplant puree -- divine. Loved everything about this, definitely a great start to my meal. It wasnt as warm as I wanted it to be, but the goose liver tasted really good.

I also got to try menu uno and due's caprese and burrata salad. I have to say that I liked the fresh burrata salad more than the caprese one since the portobello mushrooms were really overpowering.

Secondi Piatti
Risotto of fresh peas topped with grilled prime beef fillet and pancetta crisp -- pancetta was tasty and of course crispy as I wanted it to be. Serving was beyond expectations. Risotto was good. Very consistent in flavor and light. Finally, an entree that encourages me to eat steak with rice!! Steak was okay, not as tender as my brother and I expected it to be, but I loved it nevertheless.

Menu uno's lamb three ways was really really good. Meat was tender and very flavorful. Lamb loin alla romana & eggplant caponata tasted more like upscale spaghetti and meatballs.

Dolce
Bitter sweet chocolate delight, black cherries,& raspberry jelly for two. There were 5 of us and we were only served three plates, which is something I don't really get. One would expect so much more from a restaurant like this when it comes to dessert. For me, it should be fireworks and wows. I don't know but this was the disappointing part. I love the theme but it isn't something I cant find from other restaurants. Very forgettable even if the chocolate tasted good.

Nevertheless, it was still a lovely dinner with the best people in the world. Love, love the ambience. Would definitely come back for the ala carte menu. Im sure they have so much more to offer.

Celebrated Father's Day at this really beautiful restaurant and equally delicious food. 128524

We had a huge Italian feast. There were two baskets of bread, a huge plate of mozzarella balls & calamari for our appetizers; carbonara, lasagna, and two huge pizzas for entrees.

Everything tasted fresh and authentic, and was really filling. I think I my stomach gave up after one slice of pizza. 128517

What's a night at the theater without a pre-show dinner?128516

Got to Solaire quite early, giving us time to eat dinner somewhat leisurely... My mom, dad and I were there first and decided to go Italian, hence Finestra...128522

As we got there by 6pm, we were accommodated without reservations... Though I do recommend that you call ahead, especially during the Chicago run with Christmas bonuses to boot- it does get packed!128561

It was a very elegant restaurant, with a beautiful bar up front... The high cabinet has floor to ceiling alcohol, tastefully displayed... We were seated on the plush upholstered circular booth, where we had the arduous task of choosing our dinner... To help our unenviable position, we were served an assortment of freshly baked bread... What is it with hotels (it's still part of the hotel) and bread? These carb loaded beauties are usually so good, as is the case with Finestra!128077

My parents split a salad and ordered the deep fried mozzarella balls... The salad they chose had figs and cherry tomatoes with a balsamic vinegar dressing... It was okay for me... The mozzarella balls had initially liquid cheese inside due to the heat... These were really good, served with four kinds of dip... Very enjoyable and heavy appetizer actually...

My mom ordered the Tartufo pizza, which we all got to share... Fair warning, it was big... The pizza had truffle and Parma ham-- always a great pairing... The crust was just wonderful!128077 great choice!

My dad ordered pork chops while I wanted the Salsiccia risotto... But the rest of our party (the early birds at least) were already able to join us and the main dishes were still not served... Very disappointing, to think we already warned them ahead of time that we were there for the show...

The newcomers helped out with the rest of the pizza and they all ordered their respective soups... When asked, they all thought the soups were just okay, nothing special...128563

After more than 30mins of waiting, the pork chops and risotto finally arrived... The chops were cooked perfectly... But as for my risotto, topped with truffle and Italian sausages, it was also just okay... I had high hopes for the dish, but it wasn't met...

Other orders, such as their beef carpaccio and salmon started arriving, all of which I wasn't able to taste anymore... 128522

I'm forgetting to mention that I also ordered their mocktail, Rosaline... It's made of Rose water and cucumber which is an excellent combination, resulting in a refreshing drink... I recommend you try this...127801

Overall, the place was very elegant and most dishes were delicious... I understand that the waiters and staff were swamped that night... But they were still able to accommodate requests for taking pics and filling water glasses... I enjoyed the experience actually, though I feel that I would have enjoyed it more if not for the time crunch... Lovely place, okay service... A bit on the pricey side but not too bad...128522

One of my favorite Italian restaurants of all time, and a family go-to fine-dining place. The menu, while not as expansive as other restaurants like Italiannis, is authentically Italian - and the food itself confirms that.

More often than not, I have steak here, and tonight my brother and I got the Florentine steak (which Nigella Lawson raves about in Nigellissima), Scottona alla Fiorentina, which is actually a dish for two (I do have a family friend who can eat it all up himself). As usual, we ordered it medium-well.

The beef tasted every bit as a European steak should, and even when it went colder (I'm a dreadfully slow eater), it was still appetizing to eat. After seeing half a lemon and a bunch of thyme in the dish, I had a sudden inspiration of Nigella Lawson innovation, and ordered from our waiter some olive oil, salt, and pepper, mixing my own Lemon & Thyme post-hoc marinade for the beef (a Nigella Express recipe). It made the whole thing even better, as I was happy to have used the lemon and thyme more efficiently.

By the way, this waiter, Kuya Rennel, 27, is one of the most professional and friendly waiters I've ever met, as we always chat about his experiences prior to his work here and his personal life as a dedicated triathlete. :)

I ordered tonight the minestrone alla Genovese too, a non-tomato, all-green variant of the dish. Though light in taste, it's very hearty and healthy, and I am inspired to recreate my own version at home.

For pudding, instead of ordering my usual (sweet) vanilla panna cotta, I chose something to cleanse the palate and another comfort flavor of mine - the lemon sherbet. It tasted less sour than sweet and was not consistent, as if I were eating mini ice cubes, but it was cleansing enough and I felt satisfied with the way I ended my meal - and day.

Ok, i already forgot what we ordered, this was christmas day dinner.. I'd keep it short this time, place is undeniably nice, menu seems to be a lil limited, big serving--meaning the price is reasonable. Overall, it's worth the visit.

Fancy restaurants tend to have overpriced items who dont quite meet their worth. Not this place. :) everything is fresh and light on the palate! Italian at it's best10084

My top 3
1.Balsamic vinaigrette- wether in bread or with greens or in my case, in everything else :))
2. Branzino- sea bass. Wrapped in potato skin. Crispy skin, soft melt in your mouth fish! <3
3. Lobster in marinara sauce and fresh linguine pasta- my new favorite! Al dente is an understatement.

Since my friend had a voucher or something, we decided to eat at Solaire for lunch. He made me choose between Japanese and Italian, so I picked this. We could only order the set menu though...

The place was really bright and fit for an italian theme, it was fine dining-like and it had a relaxed feel to it. The servers were also very accomodating.

They served complimentary bread but i didn't even touched it. Hahaha. It looked good though.

For the starter, I got the mixed seafood soup. It didn't have much taste, it was just like red water. Hahaha. The seafood was well cooked though.

For the mains, I got the chicken casserole. The chicken was tiny and the vegetables didn't have that much taste. After 2 dishes, I was still suuuuuper hungry.

For dessert, we had the affogato. This was yunmy!! The ice cream had graham crackers at the bottom which added texture to it. I loved it 10084 Dessert was the savior, hence the 127775127775127775

Since it was free, I couldn't complain that much. HAHAHA. But since i was still hungry after our meal, we headed to the food court and got nachos. Superb nachos! 128077

I expected the food to be delicious given the price range (700-1,500 pesos per dish). Pasta and pizza were good for sharing. Must try is the pasta carbonara and pizza with truffles. Yummy!! Also I was willing to pay a premium for this view (refer to photo)

Since it was our second time, we knew what not to order so this time around, we had a better experience. Try the Finestra antipasto plate, linguini aragosta and the seabass with prawn main course. Those were yummy. Dessert was a hit and miss. The hit was the 24k chocolate cake pictured here and the miss was the Nutella calzone whose pizza dough was too heavy and thick for desert.

I love the food. Its pricey but you can share the pizza, pasta and risotto. The restaurant is at the end of the hallway overlooking Manila Bay and the swimming pool. I love their bathroom too. It comes with an Acca Kappa perfume. They gave me a rose and chocolates for Mother's Day128522

It's still my birthday. 128540128541128539

In case you still haven’t noticed, I’m actually really trying to make a review out of each of the four signature restaurants in the newly-opened Solaire Resort and Casino. I have too much free time like that! Hehehe 128541

Finestra is Solaire’s Italian fine dining restaurant which promises to serve only the most authentic handmade pizzas, pastas, and other delectable Italian dishes. Most of their ingredients are flown in from Italy, which is similar to the other signature restaurants of Solaire, that also claim to have imported ingredients.

I would say that Finestra has the most lavish interiors as compared to the other signature restaurants in Solaire.

Finestra does not open until 6:00PM, and I wish they’d change that policy to an hour earlier so that customers can really enjoy the spectacular view and entire duration of the Manila Bay sunset from the restaurant.

Since Finestra’s kitchen does not operate until 6:30pm, I kept myself company with this amazing mocktail called Rosaline.

I wasn’t able to take a photo, but they also offered a complimentary basket filled with assorted bread such as cheese bread, Focaccia, Ciabatta and Grazzini sticks partnered with amuse bouche.

Tartufo e Porcini Pizza (PHP840)
•The texture was fantastic, it achieved the right kind of chewiness that i want in my pizza. The tomato sauce tasted authentic and nicely played along with the mildly sweet dough and speck ham. This pizza would have been great except for the fact that it claims to have black truffle as one of its ingredients, and yet I couldn’t taste no truffle aroma in it, at all.

Spaghetti Wagyu Meatballs (PHP960)
•My first few slurps of the spaghetti immediately gave me the impression that there was something wrong in the dish. But still, I tried my best to be very open minded about it and I figured out that maybe, the pasta used was extra thick so that it could produce some sort of balance for the sourness of the strong marzano pomodoro sauce. The wagyu meatballs, which I suppose should be the star of this plate, didn’t really do much to stand out, because it was lacking in juiciness. It was tasty, but a bit dry on the inside.

Brick Oven Roasted Salmon with Saffron and Lemon Risotto (PHP1400)
♥Finally! Something that I have nothing to complain about. :) the salmon was very fresh and was cooked to perfection. Every bite was oozing with so much authentic salmon goodness! I particularly loved how they were able to cook even the skin so much to my liking, a bit salty, and crunchy! I know it’s just a small factor, but it goes to show how delicate they prepared this dish. The lemon risotto, on the other hand, was just as fantastic as the fish. The texture of the rice was evened out among chewy, crunchy, and creamy. Every bite with a hint of lemon was enjoyable. Pretty simple, but I love everything on and about this plate!

White Chocolate Gelato (PHP250)
•Nothing "emerrrgeeerrrd". Just like an ordinary gelato.

Lemon Sorbet (PHP250)
♥If there’s one thing you should learn about me, I am crazy about sorbets. The good kind of sorbet, of course. I can honestly say that Finestra’s sorbet is enjoyable in terms of flavor and texture! Right amount of chilliness and heaviness, generous hint of lemon but not too empowering. This felt like the most perfect palate cleanser at the time. I wish I just ordered all the other sorbet flavors available, instead of getting that white chocolate gelato. Finestra, better share your sorbet supplier or recipe to your neighbor, Strip Steakhouse!! 128541

24-Karat Chocolate Fondant (PHP620)
•This is exactly like the molten lava cake from, Strip Steakhouse, only topped with some “edible gold”. To be very honest, I did not taste nor feel any gold inside my mouth. At all. So eating this is just for the sake of being able to say “Yeah dude, I ate gold.” OOOHHH you fancy huhhh! 128541 hahaha!

Overall, I think Finestra still has so much room for improvement in their food. There’s something lacking with their pizzas and pastas, and being an Italian restaurant here in Manila, they should really be able to excel in these areas. So far, Finestra, for me, gastronomically wise, is the weakest link amongst the other signature restaurants in Solaire. The service was really fast though, that’s one thing I really have to commend them for. Our orders came in after just about 15 minutes I think?

Ordered the pasta but was too gummy. Tiramisu was soggy while panna cotta had too much jelly. Ambience was good but doesn't compensate for the hit and miss food quality. Not worth the price.
