The funny thing is, this place is always empty whenever I happen to pass by. And today, on Chinese New Year, my family decided to stay local and I proposed that we should try having lunch at Flavours of China, cos I've never been.

Well whaddaya know, everybody wanted Chinese food too so the place was packed. Packed! For once! And since they're used to not having customers I think they've cut back on staff. And it was pretty evident today as nobody was at the door welcoming or ushering in customers.

We ordered their Bundle A which is comprised of a bowl of nido soup, fried chicken, steamed fish and yang chow fried rice. The first two were ok. The fish and the rice felt cooked-from-frozen - even the green peas in the rice were still tough and starchy. The fish had weirdly textured bits, maybe fish fat or whatever that is. I think the cook got overwhelmed by all the orders (since he's not used to such a heavy workload) and rushed everything.

Their dim sum menu is very sad...only two dumpling selections (shark's fin and pork siomai, I think?) and two or three others I don't care about. I ordered the "shark's fin" and it was dry as heck, its only saving grace was having it dipped in my new fave sauce combo: soy-chili-calamansi.

Miki + Bihon noodles with lechon Macau was disappointing as well. There were only about 2 small pieces of lechon Macau in there and the noodles were soggy and just ugh.

My apologies if this review is getting too long. That's the thing, you remember all the bad stuff. So now I know why this place is always empty. Never again!

A bright spot on their menu is their fried chicken tho. With the gravy it comes with, it's delish.

Always a safe bet to just saunter over to Hap Chan. The food is consistently good there.
