I've never been to Davao since birth. With protective parents (and relatives) saying that Mindanao (Davao included) being a very dangerous place, it should be an off limits destination. And since I hardly travel local before, I didn't really mind what I was missing. After all, I'm not fond of durian. 128517 But things changed two years ago when I met R, a travel bug. He'd bring me pretty much everywhere, Davao included. And I've visited the land of durian four times already this year and counting.

Before exploring Davao City, Crocodile Park, Samal Island and what-have-you, you'll be greeted by Francisco Bangoy International Airport.

The arrival area is very small but efficient. We hardly wait over 15 minutes to get our luggages. The staff is also very quick in assisting elders and PWD passengers.

The departure area is a lot bigger and could accommodate the influx of tourists heading out of Davao. There are a handful of small cafes and pasalubong centers before and after bag checks. The only thing I hate here is that I have to remove my shoes (or sandals) upon bag inspection.

We tried one of the cafes near one of the gates and had pasta and shake. Very ordinary and slightly on the pricey side given the serving size and quality. But it'll do if you're really hungry or hate plane food.

Plus points for clean washrooms!

Davao International Airport is a bit of a disappointment to me. Since Davao is like Manila of Mindanao I am expecting something of a multifunctional airport. But it's just functional enough. Clean airport, and with different lanes for check-in. Clean comfort rooms. And with enough seats while waiting for your flight. However, in-house food option is a total disappointment. There were barely enough food concessionaire which is surprising since there are lots of flights coming in and from this City. And I think that's very important since you would need something to munch on when flights are delay. Barely enough food options for an international airport.

Also if the taxi facility is part if the things to factor in about this airport. I had quite a bad experience so another disappointing one. Yes organize system in terms of falling in line and all but ugh. One ill mannered driver.

Overall, this airport needs improvement because as an international airport, this one certainly lacks a lot.

I wish they have a 24-hour open store inside the waiting area for boarding so I can buy food. I am so hungry and thirsty!

PS: I didn't get to take photos of the airport because both my flights were at night and I was already too tired.9996🏽

This is my stop when I went to Mati via CebPac. I was a bit anxious because I don't know anyone, I arrived in the evening and I don't wanna act like a complete tourist but I can't do that since I don't know their dialect.

So I got out of the plane, and I headed straight to the exit. I didn't pass through the conveyor belt anymore because I only have a carry on bag. The airport isn't big, so it was easy to find the exit. I was kinda relieved to see a police desk standing near the exit and policemen greeting the passengers coming out.

What I find different (in a cool way) in this airport is that family and friends are waiting patiently outside. They have a waiting area across the street and near the parking. The people are very disciplined enough not to cross the street and wait right at the exit.

There was a taxi stand for passengers without "sundo" and tourists. Just turn right after crossing the street. Before actually getting out of the airport, there was a checkpoint wherein the guards will ask for your name and list the plate number of the taxi you're riding.

And get this, the manong driver told me that the reason they do that is well aside from security, if in case you forget something in the cab, you can come back for it at the airport because the drivers will return it there. How amazing is that? Talk about discipline, honesty and integrity.πŸ™‚

Going back to Manila, it wasn't a big hassle as well because although there were 2 security checkpoints, the line was fast and all checkpoints were working. The waiting area is big enough (and has aircon) for the passengers too!

It's hot here. No restaurant to eat at - just small kiosks and the lounge.

No photo though. Still one of my faves. CLean and efficient. If only airlines would care more of their passenger's time too.

Ultra mega delayed flight home last April 16 via AirAsia. This is my second time this year to have delayed flight with the same airline. This time it was delayed for 7 hours. But the airport was clean tho there were few passengers looking for charging station due to the delayed flights.

Medium size airport, it looked like a small NAIA 3. Although the 1st thing i noticed when we landed was it was very hot. As usual very long lines everywhere. But i think from all the other airports not in manila, this is already good. Could still improve a lot though.

First time here at Francisco Bangoy Davao Airport. It's a medium sized airport that also caters to international flights such as Korea, I think and Japan or China. Not sure about this but there were unfamiliar airlines on the check in counter. As for us, we flew through CebPac. Our flight got a little delayed but it's okay :) The place is airconed and has a clean bathroom. It has a free wifi which you can use for 3min. There are also pasalubong booths outside the boarding area where you can roam and shop before boarding :)
People speak tagalog and bisaya so no worries about communication.

I don't have proper pic of our mini airport, but anyways i'm proud how clean Davao airport is, the staffs are doing their job well checking the luggages and k9 dogs are everywhere. If the parking lot is too spacious, let's not mention how opposite the inside, it's very small, that's why every peak seasons you could really feel how crowded it is because of the limited space in the check-in area.

There's a terminal fee of 200php. Limited space. Less shops unlike other airports. But it's clean, I guarantee you that. 128522

Time to go back to manila128060. Davao International Airport may not be the biggest but surely it's the cleanest and smoke free airport in the Philippines. I love how short my wait time everytime i get my luggages. I like how fast i can get my things then head straight outside to get a cab. Aaaaannnnd 128522 i so love the cab drivers, unlike manila "harapang hold up". Here in davao they will return your change down to the last cent if they can, great right?128522
