Can't miss this when you visit bicol - Pinangat or aka coconut meat, is a famous bicolano dish which is made from gata (coconut milk), wrapped in gabi (taro) leaves, a combination of fish/pork/shrimp/crab with sili and ginger. Their pinangat was not very gingery and just slightly spicy which i liked (i don't like it if all you can taste is ginger and spiciness). It also combines well when eaten with a bowl of white rice and a can of coke :D

When in bicol and you want a real bicol dishes, Geewan is one of those fastfood that serves great bicolano dishes. Here you would find that the bicol express and laing quite different. They are not drowning in gata like in manila. Their version is dry and doesn't have sauce but once you taste the dish they are very delicious and the gata flavor is inside the dish. Warning they are just a little spicy!128562

We went here to eat find the best Pinangat, Laing and Bicol Express but surprisingly their best viand is Kare-kare. Although, our search? well, dishes are delicious and their service crew is nice :)

Bonus: When you are at the heart of Naga, it is easy to locate.

Had lunch at Geewan. It's reminiscent of a high-end school canteen. They have bicol food and normal filipino dishes. The pangat was exceptional (even if I don't like coconut in food). The lechon kawali is typical but I always love lechon kawali so this comment is irrelevant. Their servings seem small but when you have 2 viands you won't be able to finish it unless you are very hungry!! Quite costly btw.

A local friend of mine in Naga dubbed this resto, the highend "turo-turo".Because the setup is like a cafeteria where in you point to the server what you want and they serve it on your tray. But the people eating there are well dressed and treat it like a highend resto, having their dates, sunday family lunch/dinners there etc... The food is cheap, but the quality is top notch.

On the side is the takeout packed food of Laing and bicol express which you can give as pasalubong to your friends and families.

Bicol is famous for their spicy and coconut milk based foods. We were in Naga for a day last month and tried various Bicol delicacies in Geewan.

They had a cafeteria setup - the food were already cooked and laid out. Customers have to queue up and pay as they order. The ambience of the resto was also pretty nice. It was clean and well lit.

We tried Kinunot, Pinangat, Bicol Express, Lechon Kawali and the Bicol version of Bopis. Though the food were already cooked, it was still hot when served.

All the dishes we tried were good but Kinunot caught our attention. It's made of fish with coconut milk and some leaves of something. I cannot exactly describe the taste but it's unique and really masarap!

When it comes to price it was cheap although the serving of Bicol Express was disappointing. The portion was too small it looked like a side dish.

Lots of food to choose from! Specially the bicolano dishes. Tinomok, laing, bicol express...

There you candine and take out cooked dishes. They also sell chilled goods if youre planning to bring some in Manila which is in a microwavable containers.

Food tastes good.
