Long time residents of the South would surely recount a fond memory or two here at Gloria Maris. Before they relocated at the Commerce Mall of Alabang Town Center, they used to occupy their own two floor building along the restaurant row beside the Church. After our annual Visita Iglesia during Holy Week, we make sure to have this area on our last stop so we can dine in at Gloria Maris since they are open during the Maundy Thursdays. Now they operate within the bounds of mall hours. They have increased their prices significantly. A small serving of Polonchay vegetable in Garlic Sauce costs 400pesos! This can serve 3 to four people though.

The new dining area is a vast hall with two private dining rooms for intimate parties. The tables are far between so you are ensured privacy even with the loudest of laughter. Since we were a big group with kids, we ordered the usual fare of...

Birthday Noodles - the saucy type of pancit canton which the kids loved. The seniors find it too salty for their taste and was not so impressed with the lack of "sahog" which I did not find lacking. The serving though was big enough for the "small" size.

Shanghai Fried Rice - my personal favorite among the fried rice choices. It is wrapped in scambled egg and the rice coated in a dark soy sauce. Filled with chucks of meat and tiny morsels of vegetables. This rice dish is enough to fill you up even if there is no viand. Very flavorful and the egg was a nice fluffy addition to the carbs.

Salt and Pepper Squid - super soft and delicately coated in batter. Fried to a crunch. Don't forget to dip it in the vinegar sauce for that sour taste that compliments the salt and pepper coating. It has a little bit of spice thanks to the chopped peppers. The added fried garlic bits are also delicious.

Shrimp Hakaw - small bite size chopped shrimps in a rice wrapper. Steamed and served with calamansi and soy sauce.

Soy Chicken - half chicken steamed in soy sauce. The ginger sauce and hoisin sauce is the perfect dipping sauce for this type of chicken dish. Good thing they served a generous amount of the ginger sauce since we were very keen of it.

Cuapao with Salted Egg Yolk - cuapao bread served with a salted egg yolk sauce. It was more like a dessert dish since the egg yolk was creamy and sweet.

Service was quick, the male server was extra nice too. He was eager to refill the complimentary peanuts when my Dad asked for seconds of it. Tea comes with a 90pesos charge. Senior discounts honored.

On a random weekday, found myself wandering to this area of Alabang Town Center for the first time. I wonder how that was possible as I often frequent Town.

I was greeted by a polite server and a huge room of empty tables. Business seems to be slower on weekdays or at least on the day during my visit, Tuesday last week.

I already had a light dinner so we only ordered a bit. Considering the number of customers that night, i felt that the servers could have been more attentive. Water and ice refills were not as fast as we wanted them to be.

Prawn Salad
Definitely the highlight of our meal. The prawns were cooked well and its warmth complimented the cold fruits and vegetables it accompanied. They were also very generous with their prawns but not that much for the other ingredients.

Hakaw
I liked it. Not too starchy and i felt that it was reasonably priced.

Chicken Feet
I normally order this in any chinese restaurant i go to. Dish was great and it met my expectations.

That's it for now. Take care everyone!

Ran some errands today w the wifey and felt our tummy grumbling by 11am

We were supposed to go back to Tajimaya but opted not to because our eldest son might run amuck when he finds out we went there without him....

So Gloria Maris it is, it's been awhile since we ate in GM and last time i did was at their greenhills branch.

At 11am , the place was empty ...we were immediately seated and offered the menu....

The interiors was awesome yet lighting needs a little improvement....aircon was cool which i liked!

We ordered ff:

Dine in
2 cups jasmine rice
1 cold cuts platter-small
1 beef brisket tendon pot-small
1-sweet n sour pork-small
1-salted egg prawns small
1-hakaw
1-coke
1 almond lychee

Take out
Roasted duck and rice
Spare ribs n rice

Total bill P3.4k

Food was good,we love the cold cuts platter (esp the lechon kawali, jelly fish, white chicken, asado) and the beef brisket tendon pot

Sweet n sour pork was kinda tough but taste wise was passable...

Service was prompt not sure if it's because we were only 3 tables being served

Overall--- experience was "liked"

Like the food especially the lechon kawali, beef w/ broccoli and pata tim w/ mantao 128523127830127835 I like the yuminess of kawali and softness of beef. The broccoli is fresh 128077. The pata tim is too sweet but the mantao balanced the taste. I love dipping the mantao on the pata tim's sauce yum! 128523 Down side: we have to wait for a long time for the food to be served. Food was served one at a time kaya nabibitin kami sa food 128517

This is always a good resto to go to if you're craving for some Chinese cuisine. If ever you drop by, don't forget to get their Japanese Siomai. Really good! 128523

Just ate lunch with my family here. The place smells like LPG, it's hot, plus the food isn't fresh. My uncle asked if it's a franchise and when the waitress said yes, he just shook his head because it doesn't do the name justice. We love other branches of Gloria Maris but this is a big disappointment.

Dimsum ordered: hakaw - 128077128077128077
Sharksfin dumpling - it was obviously sitting in the steamer for quite some time. The wrapper has become resistant when bitten to, rubbery 128078128078128078

Main course:
Yang Chow fried rice - 128077
Fried spare ribs in salt and pepper - 128077
Beef tenderloin chinese style - this was suggested by the waiter, our original order of Patatim with mantao wasn't available
(they ran out of mantao 128557). Didn't like this beef tenderloin. AT. ALL.
Hot prawn salad - 128077128077 though with only 4 pcs of prawn, its v. pricey at P580
Seasonal veggies in oyster sauce - so-so

Will still come back to try their other dimsum and their duck specialty. Duck is not part of their roasting combo, meaning its expensive. 128513 Will go back kapag mas malaki ang budget.128518

Who can go wrong with peking duck cooked jn 3 ways? My favorite! Duck skin wrap with hoisin sauce and onion leeks. I can eat this everyday! (If only it wasn't high in cholesterol 128546) but this is one of my fave in gloria maris and in shang palace! Peking duck is love! Haha 128077
