[Disclaimer: Late post.]

I really find it amusing how the internet reconnects people. Just a few weeks back, I met up with a balikbayan friend I met when I visited San Francisco. I promised that in case he visits Manila, I’ll return the favor and buy him a good meal. I was just not expecting it to be a sudden and unplanned meet up on All Saints’ Day. (I’m quite a planner when it comes to things that involve food.)

Since it was an impromptu dinner on a day that some restaurants were closed, we decided to explore Kapitolyo. My favorite Open Kitchen was closed while Silantro as always, was packed that night.

My other favorite place, Gostoso had a few vacant tables so we decided to settle with the Piri-Piri place.

Since it was already a bit late, we decided not to go wild with the order and just went with an order of Piri-Piri Fries (PHP90) and Half and Half of Chicken and Shrimp Skewers (PHP785). I was also in the mood to drink that night so we ordered a carafe of red sangria (PHP370).

First served was the plate of Piri-Piri fries with sour cream dip. It had a tangy flavor that made it addicting. (Fine, I’m biased as I love anything tangy.)

Next served was the red sangria with fruit chunks. J and I munched on the fruits as palate cleanser and dessert. I didn’t get a hint of the wine though.

And finally, the Half and Half was served.

Okay, it looked a bit sad but the taste did not disappoint.

The chicken though was a bit drier compared to the first time I went there. The shrimps on the other hand were a bit bland so you might want to keep the Piri-Piri sauce beside you if you order this one.

The sides—cream of corn and spinach were delightful as always. The olive rice made the meal extra yummy too.

Thank you, Gostoso for another great meal. Hope you enjoyed your meal, J.

We decided to walk to Smile Elephant Thai Restaurant from Ace Water Spa and Hotel in order for us to burn some calories. But since most of the restaurants in Kapitolyo are near each other, we were not able to burn so many calories. But the foodie gods were against our adventure as Smile Elephant Restaurant was closed! Well, at least until 5 p.m.. Anyway, we were quick to adjust our plans and decided to go to Gostoso instead. And I failed to realize that it was rather far from the other restaurants. So after a few minutes and slightly disheveled hair, we made it.

Hello, Gostoso.

The place definitely caught my interest with the “Pork Here” sign near the restaurant’s door. But I went crazier inside. I just love how quirky the whole place was designed. There was a cute thermometer drawing painted on the floor leading you to the counter, a “Break Glass In Case It Gets Too Hot” sign on the wall, and light fixtures with chili cutouts. It was such a lovely sight.

N wanted to just try the Piri Piri Chicken but I thought that it would be boring to just try one. (Plus we walked so far!) So after 10 seconds of convincing, we ordered two. We got the Quarter chicken with rice and one side dish (PHP230 versus PHP200 of just the chicken) and Porco Gostoso (PHP315). I also ordered Gosto De Tea (PHP80) which they claim to be a house blend tea.

Service was quite quick or perhaps it felt that way since N ad I were still stuffed from the first (second for me) stop.

I tried the Porco Gostoso first and it was oily but extremely good! It was so flavorful and definitely well cooked. It was so soft that you don’t even have to chew it. There was a bit of suya (easily getting tired of the taste) factor so this dish is best to be shared and enjoyed with rice or side dish (we had creamed corn and it was sooo good!). I loved munching on it with the Piri Piri sauce (I went with the mild one while N had the spicy sauce).

The Piri Piri Chicken was yummy as well. Not as flavorful as the pork dish, this one is something I’d order again as it seemed to be less sinful. Also, this is something I could finish alone. And I just want to emphasize how much I loved the creamed corn. It was sooooo good. It went really well with the pork and chicken.

My house blend iced tea on the other hand tasted pretty much like Lipton iced tea. It made me doubt if it was really house blend. Nonetheless, it was refreshing. N was worried though as I already had too much tea in my system then. No wonder I’m so jumpy and hyper lately. (Then again, I’m always hyper unless I’m hungry or… well, angry because I’m hungry.)

I will definitely be back for more of Gostoso’s dishes.

Ito ang Gostoso ko. Okay, that was a terrible line.

I went to Kapitolyo with my mom a while back because she wanted to sample the Avocado cheesecake at Lia's. After that, we looked for a place to have dinner (Haha, nauna pa dessert). It was then that we chanced upon this place.

The interiors are pretty simple, governed by wood and a fiery red color, which makes sense since the "piri piri", in the name of its main offering (Gostoso piri piri chicken) actually means some kind of chili pepper. 🌶🌶🌶

The menu is made up of Portuguese food with the prices from around 200-300 pesos or more. Since I wanted to have a little bit of everything, I ordered their dish that had all their mains, for around 1,000 pesos. It consisted of two skewers of big pieces of shrimp, a slab of pork and half a chicken! It also comes with three side dishes. We had the creamed corn, potatoes and the creamed spinach. Aside from that, you also get three servings of rice. I didn't know what I was thinking ordering this for just my mom and I, considering it's good for 3-4 people. 128514 We also had their iced tea. You have the option as well of making your own sauce from the available ones near the counter (mild, original piri piri sauce, etc.), and simply adjusting to taste.

The chicken was juicy and flavorful, with just the right kick of spices. The pork was delicious as well, very tender. The shrimp was my favorite of the three (maybe I'm biased because I really like shrimp haha). Grilled nicely, with the flavors seeping through. I really liked the creamed corn, although the potatoes and spinach were kind of meh for me. I also enjoyed the iced tea! It was very refreshing, and washed all those spices and flavors down to give your palate a break.

Service was okay, bill took forever to arrive but the place and food is still pretty good! 128077

Ordered the meal which includes a quarter of a chicken (you can choose which part you like), rice, your choice of side dish, and drink. I liked the chicken but the spinach tasted really bland. The Potato gratin was better.

We also had Sangria. You can choose to have it mixed with red or white wine but last night they didn't have any more red wine.

Service was okay.

We were looking for place to eat along Kapitolyo after claiming my phone from Rob Galleria. I instantly thought of Gostoso since I already tried their food when #TeamClingy surprised Kirby on his birthday last June.

I had the Piri Piri chicken set that comes with Olive rice and a siding. I had the Cream Spinach as my sidings and it's the best choice ever! Their chicken was marinated to perfection and grilled in open flame that makes it flavorful and succulent. The serving was generous too, so that's an additional "wow" point! You can also customize your piri-piri sauce from mild to wild (hot). 128541 Not to mention their chicken actually works even without the sauce! Additional "wow" point! The price starts at Php 280 with a regular iced tea and that makes it affordable!

Would like to go back and reunite with their heavenly Porco Gostoso! Hardly can wait for it!!! 128076

Had late dinner here last night after accompanying Russel F in Galleria to claim his phone.

We had their Piri Piri chicken meal. It includes iced tea, olive rice and side dish of your choice.

I loved their chicken it tastes really good. The spiciness is just right and serving size is big. The price is also just right at P280

Will definitely come back.

We had a feast c/o Gostoso two weeks ago for Kirby G's surprise birthday salubong. Woohoo! 128513

Of course we tried their bestseller, the Piri Piri Chicken. It was good but I found it a bit dry, probably because it was already cold when we ate it. It was served with different sauces and I liked the mild one the most. Their hot sauce was uber spicy. 128534 IMO, Nando's Peri Peri Chicken still is the best! 128540

My favorite dish that night was the Porco Gostoso. It wasn't greasy; pork was juicy and well marinated. Very tasty even without any sauce. 128523

Try their creamed corn and olive rice too! 128076🏼

#TeamClingy surprised Kirby G for his ## birthday a few weeks ago, and we were lucky that Gostoso was so generous and sent us food!

I actually did not know what to expect since I have never tried their food, but I also did not set my expectations too high because the food was sent hours before the actual dinner. So I did some research just now and found out that they are located all the way in Kapitolyo. Wow, that was really far from Makati! Haahaha!

I know, I know. Not another roasted chicken place. There are too many of them already, but SP still tops my list! However, their Piri Piri Chicken is a strong contender! Tender, juicy, and perfect with their sauces! No chimichurris here, but they have their own piri piri sauce in hot and mild. (Piri piri is siling labuyo in Portugese, btw!) I suggest you go mild first.

Their standout dish was their Porco Gostoso. Their menu says "Pork made perfect! Prime rib slow-roasted over an open flame". It seems underwhelming and plain, but OMG. YOU HAVE TO ORDER THIS. PROMISE ME YOU WILL!!!

I could not stop eating rice with this one. It was very flavorful and tender, but of course, I still topped it with their mild sauce for a little kick. 128521

We also got a sampler of their starters, but I'd rather save stomach space for the pork!

We ordered a Gostoso Starter Platter for our appetizer. It had three pieces of Coxinha and Bolsas, and some Piri Piri Fries. Coxinha is a bite-sized Brazillian street food made from shredded chicken, bell peppers, and cream. Bolsas on the other hand are juicy browned puff pastries stuffed beef. My brothers attacked it as soon as it was set on the table, so the only thing I was able to try was the Coxinha, which tasted alright.

We then ordered Prato Grandes (Platters) of Frango Piri Piri (Chicken) and the Porco Gostoso (Pork). All the platters came with olive rice, sides, and iced tea. One platter is good for 3-4 persons, so it's recommended that you get the platters instead of the combos if you're a group. I recommended that you get the potato gratin as a side. It was good! I must also commend their Gosto de Tea. It was brewed lemon iced tea with a hint of peppermint. Yummy! As for the Piri Piri Sauce, I'm not a big fan of spicy food, so I chose to try just the Mild, Garlic, and Bbq sauces. In the end, I just chose not to eat the chicken with any of the sauces. I liked it already on its own.

If you're up for a simple yet flavorful Portuguese meal, visit Gostoso! Make sure to try their Piri Piri Chicken and Porco Gostoso!

Our meal was lackluster. The sauces weren't awesome. Both chicken and pork were dry. The olive rice was good in theory but not in reality. The appetizer platter was also dry and lacked taste. Sad face. We wanted to like this place, we really did.

This Gostoso Platter consists of half chicken, 2 /shrimp skewers, slab of pork, 3 cups of olive rice and 3 sides.

Chicken:
Tender and flavorful chicken inside and out with herbs and other amazing rubs blended into the meat.

Slab of Pork:
It has been slow-cooked for 4 hours making the meat deliciously fall off the bone. Both the chicken and pork has a nice smoky taste.

Shrimps:
Were grilled beautifully and a tad underseasoned but with good reason. This is where Joao’s Piri Piri sauce comes into play. I combined both sauces to create that delectable appetizing heat to compliment the shrimp.

Gostoso nailed this platter hands down!

A meal here is basically pampatawid gutom. Most of it was bland and nothing exciting.

I'm no piri piri expert and I don't like it spicy but the chicken even with juices squeezed fr. the slice of lemon was so bland. I only like the not spicy bell peppers and creamed spinach while the same goes for my boyfriend only turn the not spicy to super spicy and spinach to corn.

128184128184 The prices for the quarter meal chicken 127831 was okay at PHP 230, But the piri piri fries 127839 was over priced at PHP 90. While extra order of sides are around PHP 70 I think. Super bock beer was good 127866

We were full but it was a very boring experience.

I was super hungry after covering 3 basketball games. So me and my date (koya) hehe decided to try this new place Gostoso.

The menu says that the dishes have a touch of brazilian/Portuguese. It's a small and cozy place.

I ordered pork with olive rice and 2sides (cream spinach and baked potatoes).

I'll start with pork. The meat was super juicy. It was a bit salty for my taste but it was complimented by the creamy spinach. The meat was very tender. And the char grill added some touch to it.

The olive rice was generous in serving. Ako pa man din si Ms. Extra Rice. Hehe. The olive pieces were not tipid. Talagang olive rice siya.

Anyway, the two sides were equally delish!! The creamy spinach and the baked potatoes. And hindi siya yung one spoon of sides.. Sides talaga ma okay ang serving.. All that for Php300!!! Yes, sulit.

So my date, sa super Hilig niya sa chicken, ordered chicken. Feeling jo magkakapalong na sya. Or baka bigla nalang tumilaok.

Basically, it was cooked the same.. It had olive rice but this one only had one side. Mac n Cheese. And super yummy nung mac n cheese.. Only for php270

Pwedeng pwede na Diba?? Enjoy ako and I'll go back to this place.

First of all, the interiors are fascinating! From the wallpaper to the ceiling lights, almost everything is screaming red and black! :) The design is simple yet eye-catching :)

What I liked most about this place is their food. We went here not because we just passed by the place and decided, "Hey, are you hungry? Let's try that chicken place!" I happened to see one article about must-try food places in Kapitolyo and saw this on the list. So we went here expecting to taste the best peri-peri chicken in town and to our surprise, we were not disappointed! Their peri-peri chicken tastes sooooo good! Though that is not what I ordered LOL! Since my friend ordered the chicken, I opted to order the pork and it was soooo good too! The mouth-watering, tasty, melt-in-your-mouth-fatty-goodness meat is simply amazing. Just the right amount of flavor in it. Truly, simplicity is beauty :) Oh, and I almaot forgot the appetizer! The juicy, empanadita-like beef bites are remarkably juicy and tasty :) It is definitely a must-try! But if you have a small appetite, you should not order this before indulging in your chicken or pork meal because it is very filling. :)

So, if you happen to pass by Kapitolyo with empty tummies, this is one place you shouldn't miss out!

Food list:
1. Bolsas - juicy, beef-stuffed pastry
2. Porco Gostoso - prime rib slow-roasted tender over an open flame
3. Piri-piri Chicken- herb-spice infused chicken

Ordered the Porco Gostoso and I enjoyed it! Their spicy piripiri sauce is hella spicy and I only mix a small amount of it with their regular sauce so as not to call the fire department. Overall this serving is good for a big guy (6'3") like me. Service was great as well.

I returned the following day just to order the same thing. That's how much I liked it :D
