Thank God I didn't stay at Apo View!
I rarely post collage photos but it would serve the purpose of this review =)
Located along the busy street of A. Pichon, without a driveway for drop off at the hotel entrance and only three floors high, one might think that Grand Menseng is a dorm / condotel with a fancy lobby. . . unless of course you're from Davao or checked out Agoda for reviews or LOOLOO - hence reading this! It's a hotel. An old, well kept and maintained hotel.
Looking grand because of the high ceiling (plus points for the chandelier), and the enticing buffet area that's slightly elevated.
THE STAFF (Front desk, waiters, housekeeping)
They were all so warm and accommodating. I had a lot of requests throughout my stay and they made me a happy guest. I'll go to that later ----
Red carpet, and wall lamps in parallel, reminiscent of dracula's lair. Or maybe my imagination is just too wild (?) It was 11am, yet the hallway was too dim!
I was too busy to take a photo before I slept on my bed, and I think the above photo would suffice.
Room #1 on the 2nd floor. I had a heavy feeling when I entered, and the mirror was right across the foot of the qeen sized bed, huge enough for an entire view. Wall lamps on both sides - NO. Just no. The aircon was and the exhaust of the bathroom was eerie and some of the lights were blinking. Not that Im freaked out, but - I didn't feel comfortable. I requested a different room.
Room #2 on the 3rd floor. The hallway is brighter, for some odd reason. The lock of my door though was the traditional lock - house keys instead of cards, and the aircon was old school too (as you can see from the photo). The mirror wasn't at north view directly from the bed anymore North west na ^^, Still a queen size bed with a bedroom bench on foot side! Clean sheets, but not the soft cottony type. The desk was huge, there's a flat screen tv to aid boredom, and ohhh ohh a coffee table for coffee, writing and working!
Surprise! There's a bath tub The toilet seat was really old. mmmmmeh
There's a pool and ihaw ihaw on the side. . . but I didn't bother. Not that much time after all
- ordered hot chocolate, toasted bread and sunny side up eggs. AHHHH I LOVE THEIR HOT CHOCOLATE! Thick, rich and bittery sweet, though not smooth. It's native, they say!
THE FUNCTION ROOM
Quite a few rooms, and we had the smallest but it still looks ok.
Cordon Bleu - mmmmmm! crunchy rolls and tender meat. more like crunchy maki rolls without the mango
Liempo - like lechon baliwag
Nothing special, really. But would pass for a filling dinner!
* Lunch Buffet (P325)
TUNA slices with ranch dip!
SALAD BAR - mmmm, yadiya. nothing new but presented nicely.
- Chicken Curry : malabnaw, period
- Seafood tempura : med prawns, squid balls, and fish fillet. this is ok, while hot
- Pata Humba : WOW. THIS ONE'S GOOD
- Fish something thats like sweet n sour (?)
- etc I didnt bother getting (like pancit guisado and siopao)
SIDES - achara, ampalaya : both good
DESSERT - Halo halo without ube / icecream :/ but there's chocolate cake (prolly native tablea was used cause its thick and muddy) and ube (mmmm :/)
NOT BAD for 325! Decent home cooked meals that are actually above expectation somehow.
* Breakfast Buffet (free) I just designed my plate, ok!
- hot chocolate!!! I love their hot chocolate!!
- french toast........ orange jam / strawberry jam and dry cheese........ mmmmmmkayLang
- POTATO WEDGES HORRAY!!!! && MILKY SCRAMBLED EGGS AND BREADED FISH FILLET to save the day There's tocino and garlic chicken also, and fried rice, but im happy with POtatoes ^^,
- hot chocolate!! hot chocolate!!
HULING YUGTO NA, PANGAKO
The hotel is pretty decent for a quick stay but not for leisure, of course...unless you're actually planning to go for an adventure elsewhere and just use it as a place to rest and sleep.

Located in the downtown area, this hotel was one of the first "major" hotels that opened in the city. It's rated at 3-stars. It's quite old but it's still well-maintained. The City Council and other business clubs often meet here for their regular conventions and seminars.
Here I attended a 3-day diplomatic convention with about 400 other participants coming from other parts of the country.
The hotel only has two floors but has over 70 rooms. And of course, there's only have one elevator. The lobby and café aren't huge but are spacious enough.
What's huge are their ballrooms. They have about 4 ballrooms with dividers. Each ballroom has a beautiful chandelier too. In the convention I attended, the dividers were removed, and so the place became one huge hall. (The picture doesn't do the place justice. It shows only 1/4 of it.)
A room was spacious enough to accommodate 5-6 persons. But looks average though. There's cable TV, a big dresser and cabinet, a refrigerator and mini-bar, and a shower/bathtub. All rooms have air conditioning and LAN internet as well. Unfortunately, WiFi is only available in the lobby, café, and ballrooms.
And they also have an outdoor pool.
During my stay here, I really enjoyed the food. From appetizer to main course to dessert, I wasn't disappointed. Food was cooked just right. And they didn't serve the same dishes throughout the convention.
Their staff were also very friendly and helpful too. From day 1 to day 3, they always had a smile on their faces and were always willing to help.
Though it might be quite old, Grand Men Seng still offers good accommodations. (Just don't expect things to still be grand in terms of the interior decor. )
