Valentine's Dinner 2014

We made the reservation for the 830 time slot since I got worried that we may get caught in the traffic (Friday + VDay + payday weekend). Thankfully, the travel was hassle-free. My guy chose this place and didn't reveal to me where we're going for dinner; he just told me that it will be in San Juan. When we arrived, I was awed by the simple yet very romantic location. It is an old Spanish house which was partly (since I believe that the family still resides at the first level of the house) opened for the public. I appreciate how families nowadays are very open with this concept of converting their homes into restaurants. From the looks of it, they preserved the interiors. We arrived at 730 and it was okay for us to wait for the time of our reservation but they gladly assisted and and made us choose between the garden or the second floor, inside the house. We chose the latter. Violinists also added to the romantic vibe of the place.

Menu of the night:

Complimentary schiacciata all’uva with olive oil, balsamico and green mango jam
128077 The bread was tender and not rubbery.

Spinach-chorizo frittata with mixed greens, strawberry vinaigrette and balsamic reduction
128077 It was a great appetizer.
Tre funghi tortellini in white wine truffle cream sauce and tomato confit
128077 Sauce was creamy and the consistency was perfect -- not too thick nor too watery.

Grilled Australian tenderloin (~150g) with roman gnocchi, poached egg and hollandaise
128077 Poached egg was perfect and the meat was not rubbery.

Pancetta and sage stuffed chicken fillet a la cacciatore with eggplant parmigiana
128077 Chicken was not rubbery too.

Fried Italian doughnuts with cherry marble gelato and cioccolato
128077 Perfect combination!

We each had homemade strawberry iced tea, which was unfortunately not refillable.
128077 It was sweet but not the kind which hurts your throat.

It's good to know that there are places like this which are very homey despite the busyness of the metro.
