Had the chance to try this restaurant out because our client wanted Japanese food in Shangri-la.

Upon checking the menu, we knew that the highlight of the place was their grilled meats. So we had to make sure we get those. But the choices of meat were actually confusing us so we just asked our server to recommend which ones to get.

For the grill, we ordered their wagyu tenderloin, beef shabu shabu, regular beef cut and regular pork cut.

Wagyu tenderloin 1108811088110881108811088
Since it was the most expensive cut in the menu, it had to be good. Or else 128514 the meat was so tender and the juices were oozing out of every bite. I think you should cook it medium rare for better appreciation. Seasoned with salt and pepper only.

Beef shabu shabu 11088110881108811088
Tender and flavorful with sweet seasoning as recommended by our server. I liked this next to the wagyu.

Regular beef cut 11088
The regular beef, I'm not sure if it was because of it being the cheapest, wasn't good. It was hard and the texture was gummy. I had a hard time chewing on it even if we had it cooked medium well. This was the only grilled meat that our table wasn't able to finish at the end of the meal.

Regular pork cut 1108811088
I wasn't able to personally try this but I trust my companions' judgement. It was just ok. Cooked with spicy sauce as recommended by our server. Can be replaced by another dish or meat cut as it didn't stand out.

We also ordered some beef croquettas, fried gyoza, tantanmen ramen and crispy pork belly to add to our grilled items.

Beef croquettas 1108811088
Were balls of beef strips inside mashed potato rolled into a ball and deep fried. However, I was expecting more of a crunch on the outer crust but didn't get it. The whole thing was just soggy.

Fried gyoza 11088110881108811088
I liked this dish. Maybe because it'a my first try at fried gyoza. Topped with dried shaved fish flakes and what I can describe as teriyaki sauce. It was good. Definitely different from your usual gyozas.

Tantanmen ramen 110881108811088
Definitely had better elsewhere. But the spiciness to it is good enough for a mention.

Crispy pork belly 110881108811088
Crispy fried goodness putok batok style 128514

At the end of the meal we wanted dessert to cleanse our palate but they only offered two choices: ice cream and flan. Neither did we get so we ended up having coffee someplace else.

Will I return? Hmmmm.... not anytime soon.

- 25% off for Citibank card holders!!!!! Minimum of PHP 1,000!!!! 128513128513128513128513128513 Our original total bill was around PHP 1,600 but thanks to Citibank, we only paid around PHP 1,300. 128077🏼

We don't really go to these kinds of grilling places but we were checking out the menu when a happy server came out of nowhere and started telling us about their specials. She was being all happy and stuff so it was hard (especially for my parents) to say no to her lol. #napressure It's not that we didn't like it it's just not really our typical Saturday night restaurant. 128556 We gave in anyway.

I liked how the place look. It was very relaxing and the place looked really clean. It was weird how there were only a few customers on a Saturday night.

Anyway, we got their shabu-shabu grill (thin slices of tender beef), which was really good, their chicken thigh fillet and pork. My parents got some fried tofu and miso soup, which I had no interest in so I can't really share much about those two items lol. Anyway, the chicken was good too and the pork was just fatty. I surprisingly liked the dipping sauce that came in small sawsawan bowls. It wasn't too sweet and it wasn't too salty either.

Service was a bit slow though.

The Karubi beef should be grilled for no more than 30 to 45 seconds. Yum!

What a way to end this Monday madness with great food at this restaurant. Ordered 4 types of meats: Harami, Marble, Brisket and Buta Karubi. Marinated with special garlic honey sauce. Let's start the week right... #corporateslave #marketingstress

Meat was good but my goodness, horrible service! Waiters are very slow and unprofessional. They almost scalded us while pouring hot tea and while carelessly lifting the hot coal. Waited a long time each dish is served more than 15 minutes apart, rice even came last. For the price you would expect that they would at least get trained in serving you properly and politely. What a toxic dining experience.

Food is ok but too pricey. No side dishes included for every meat that you order. For a petite girl like me, the small-sized order of meat was more than enough mainly because it's beef. It was tasty and juicy. The katsudon (not so sure if it really was it) was also delicious. I personally think it would be more worth it if you are with a group so you could order their complete set which I think is fair enough.

Went here for a meeting last week. We ordered chapchae, tempura, tofu and a few barbecued meat. Since we didn't want to cook the meat ourselves, we had it cooked in the kitchen instead. I don't know exactly what was ordered (someone else ordered for the group) but all the beef were soft, chewy and marinated well! You can choose from several flavors and all those I've tried were good! The meat comes with lettuce leaves. The other menu items were just okay.

The ambience is nice and cozy. You'll smell of smoke and meat after a while though. Overall, the whole dining experience is okay but price is quite steep! Our bill for a group of 5 amounted to 6k+ and I'm not quite sure if it's really worth it.

Gyu-Kaku offers customers the opportunity to cook various cuts of beef, pork, poultry, seafood, vegetables on the specially designed roasters. As usual didn't tried any of those. 128522

Didn't satisfied with my first visit so I give it a try. Had the Tantan ramen in hot stone pot that maintain the temp even to the last drop. This time if was great the spiciness of the ramen is perfect for me 128077

The gyoza this time I might say is awesome, topped with Japanese mayo and forgot the other one 128513128513 really it was good, the best fried gyoza I tried so far.

What can I say about the service? It was ok, though they forgot my Gyoza, but the staff were very attentive of your needs and provide you with whatever was necessary.

It seems a little bit fancy. The food reminds me of the best yakiniku places in Malate, which means it's good. The ramen was better than that of the trendy ramen places that have recently popped up. Enticing menu. Didn't get to try so many other things and that makes me want to come back. Hopefully it's as good, and I hope it wasn't just because we were starving.

Terrible service.

Went here with the wife since we always find the aroma enticing when we go to Shang.

True enough, the food did not disappoint! Different meat types were ordered but we found the miso marinade to be the best of the selection.

Pretty pricey but you sort of justify it with the good food. Be careful with the grill not to over cook the meat.

If there is one thing to complain about, it was the heat but maybe that was because we were seated towards the inner side and not on the mall side.

This place has been in my schedule for quite some time, but I was finally able to come try it. I thought that it was just one of those places that was extremely overhyped by people who told me that this place was good.

They served a variety of different beef options, but didn't order any of those 128522 I tried the ramen of course the Spicy Tan tan ramen topped with minced meant spinach and fried Gyoza.

Nothing special about the ramen don't like the noodles they used it's like the noodles in Lucky me pansit canton haha, what I like is the spiciness of it and the spinach. The ramen was served in a hot stone bowl, and maintain the temp even up to last drop 128513. The Gyoza was ok.

Overall, the place has a great ambience. Although the ventilation is decent here, you will still leave smelling of meat, so choose your clothing carefully!

Gyu-Kaku is a busy resto that have so many lights that can affect your dining experience. I even heard it from the table across on my left. Waited for more than 15min. Getting a waiter was a struggle as well. Food was good depending on how you do it. Very similar style with Tong-Yang where you have to cook some of their bestsellers on a hotpot. This reviewer prefers the aforementioned resto. Harami Miso (P325 large), Buta Krubi (P185 large) and Gomanegi Ramen (P235) were really good. Chx Fillet (P165) and Brisket (P315 large) were alright. Price wasn't bad considering we were 4 and still had takeout. Total amount was around P1,300 (thank goodness for the old man's senior citizen card). Complementary green tea is served. Could have been way better if service and turn around of the table turnaround were better.

Food was good but WORST SERVICE EVER!!! servers are so slow, bibimbap was extremely dry, they served the next table first just because there was a celebrity there, and they only refilled our waters once when we asked them to.

I don't get why these restos can't just leave a pitcher of water also! I mean if you can't go around checking if people have water just let them serve themselves!

The mom was craving for some Jap last Father's Day (late post) and so we went on to try this new Japanese BBQ restaurant at Shang's new wing! (Even if it was the dad's day, the mom's still the boss. 128514)

We were having some difficulty as to what we should order because they had lots of food choices to choose from! So we finally decided to order one of their sets, the Fuku Set or what I'd love to call the Wagyu Carnivore Set 128514128046

Gyu-Kaku offers 2 sets: the one with the Wagyu and the one without. Of course, the latter one is a lot cheaper than the Fuku (Wagyu) Set. But, living with a bunch of carnivores in the family, we will never say no to meat especially when it's Wagyu we're talking about.

The Fuku Set consists of:

✔️ Assorted Kimchi
✔️ Choice of salad (Horenso, Wakame, Caesar, Choregi & Sanchu)
✔️ Wagyu Tenderloin
✔️ Wagyu Karubi
✔️ Harami
✔️ Buta Karubi
✔️ Gindara Miso
✔️ Assorted Mushroom
✔️ Ishiyaki Mentaiko
✔️ Choice of Dessert (Gyu-Kaku ice cream, Kurogoma (black bean) ice cream, Matcha ice cream & Yuzu Sorbet) -- NOT IN THE PHOTO

Price:

3-4 persons: Php 3,595 (this is what we had)
5-6 persons: Php 5,495
7-8 persons: Php 6,295

I wasn't expecting so much from this restaurant since all the cook-it-yourself restos I've been to were just average for me. I thought that this one'll be just like the others of its kind. I was sooo wrong. 5 stars for the cooking experience, ambience, service and of course, for the great-tasting, tender, flavorful food! 128525128525128525 If only I could give them a 10 here on |ooloo, I would! 12788111088️ Good job, Gyu-Kaku! And kudos to the mom for choosing this one. 128079
