There’s a new Chinese restaurant in town, they’re located at SM City General Santos’ second floor, by the alfresco area.

Hao Chuan Modern Chinese Cuisine is the name and they boast of serving Chinese food that has a Filipino and modern twist. You get to feel these two the moment you step inside. Modern fixtures and designs that give this relaxing vibe, with wallpapers and stone frames on the walls making you feel like you’re in China or some other Asian country.. 128077🏻

They’re still on soft opening, grand opening scheduled tentatively by the end of the month (not too sure). It was their fourth day from opening when my friends and I dropped by for dinner. Place was packed with a lot of people curious about this new venture by Phela Grande Hotel. This is managed by my HS friend and I can see that they are hands on in ironing out the things needed to give out the best customer experiences. 128521

We tried the following:

HAO CHUAN SOUP (280PHP)
Their recommended soup was good! It’s their version of shark’s fin soup. Can be shared by around 4-5 people.

PEKING CHICKEN FRIED RICE (280PHP)
First time to hear about this kind of fried rice. It was pretty tasty and I liked it except for the inconsistent done-ness, first bowl served was dry while the second one very wet/sticky. One bowl may be shared by 3-4 people.

PORK SIOMAI (70PHP)
Only three pieces in each bowl. Weird. But taste was an okay.

PATA TIM (540PHP)
This was a big serving! May be shared by at least 4-5 people. I liked this dish as it had this sweet and savory touch. Presentation was also really nice. Heard they marinate this over night thus the pata tim tenderness. 128077🏻 I recommend this!

BEEF W/ MUSHROOM (260PHP)
You may choose between the Local (260php) or the Australian (540php) beef to be used in this dish. We opted for the local one and I liked how tender and tasty each chunk of beef was. Good for only 3-4 people to share..small serving.

BEEF BRISKET (240PHP)
Compared to the other beef dish, the briskets were chunkier as expected. An okay dish, tasty, but I prefer the one with mushrooms. Also small serving.

For desserts:

MANTOU BUNS (90PHP)
Not bad, but I expected a shinier top. One that I’m used to. Taste was an okay. You get to put sweet milk to add taste.

WICKED OREOS (120PHP)
Also an okay, in my opinion. Not bad palate cleanser. Four fried oreos, served with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Overall, this new Chinese restaurant has something to say in terms of food quality (taste) and ambiance. They have to work more on organization of their staff to provide better customer service. Our orders arrived late for some reason, and I’ve been hearing feedback about slow service as well. Still forgivable as it was their first four days when we visited. I hope they work on it. Prices, also needs some rethinking. Some were priced appropriately while some were too steep for the small serving.
