Hatsu Hana Tei is this japanese resto thats quite off the radar being on the second floor of a hotel across the more popular Little Tokyo compound. If you've never heard about the Herald Suites hotel, much less notice the sign for this resto hanging above... wala! So a big shout out to Looloo for helping us find places like these!

Oh man, where do i begin? Ughhh... that Hana Kazari... a must order for every first timer and sahimi lover. Imagine premium quality sashimi grade salmon, tuna, squid... filleted and wrapped like rose petals around uni, or fish eggs, or crab roe. Its like a tray of sashimi rosebuds. Such a thing of beauty... and the taste is just as good as it looks!

Even their other dishes like the chasoba (green tea infused cold buckwheat noodles), tempura, salmon teriyaki, chawan mushi... you can really taste the quality from the ingredients down to the execution. Small details like the grilled salmon being charred and crispy in the right places, the teriyaki sauce not being too overpowering, the tempura batter having the right balance of light and crispy so as to not be too nakakaumay. Price-wise... i'd say about as much or perhaps a little cheaper than Seryna if you go ala carte. Still pricey (plus service charge and tax, which isnt good news!) but i'm not complaining because its that. damn. good.

Best Jap resto for me! Big servings, fresh of the freshest seafood turned into sashimi and sushi. Delicious and succulent beef yakiniku.

Okay speechless 128516

Photo above is called Hana Kazari. This is a beautiful sashimi dish wrapping around fish roe and yes, that's Uni. 128563128525

But if you crave for authentic, affordable value-for money deals.. You're in for a treat in Hatsu Hana Tei. Especially their lunch sets. 128077128077 (which can be served during dinner time. Just add P100 on top of the original price) Seriously, the set is good for two persons.

What more can you ask for? This is definitely a hidden gem in Makati.

Food was good! It came a surprise to us that it was affordable compared to other japanese restaurants nearby. We tried one of their set meals, sukiyaki, gyoza and chicken bbq for the kids and coffee jelly for dessert. We were the only non japanese customers eating here tonight. Good sign for us!

You know you're in a really good Japanese restaurant when there are a lot of Japanese people. That is exactly the case in Hatsu Hana Tei.

Service: prompt, helpful and friendly. Food: exceptionally great! Very generous servings at an affordable price too. Truly high class Japanese food.

Service: Perfect 128077

Ambiance : Good 128076

Price : Very afordable 128079

Food : Very salty 128148

Note: I use to love this place, but lately I notice the standard of the food is compromise, yellow radish tasted so weird, the seaweeds in miso soup tast like fish (lansa), food and ramen taste so salty.

Verdit: I still prefer Seryna at little tokyo or Tsumura( d best) at Valero St., both located in Makati.

Fantastic and mouthwatering japanese food at an affordable cost is almost a myth. Seryna and Sugi are on the high end, and those that are affordable are blah.

Thats where Hatsu Hana Tei come in. Authentic japanese fare at cost you will not believe. For 300 bucks you get sushi set (see photo) that includes: generous serving of really fresh uni, swordfish, squid, shake and tuna. Thats just the set. But you get soba choices too: cold or hot. You get chawan mushi as appetizer (which is best ive ever tasted) and vegetable fritters and pickled radish or ginger. Then you get free dessert after and miso soup. They should change the name of set to feast!!

The place is beautiful and clean. There's absolutely nothing wrong with this place. Except for maybe the stench of the old hotel smell of herald suites.

Net net: you will have to rethink seruna for this.

PS: i had it for lunch. Dinner is a different story
