The Honesty Shop is always open and unmanned. It’s similar to a tiny grocery and souvenir store combined. It also offers coffee and drinks for those that need a stopover during their travel.
The name was derived from the trust that the shop places on its customers. The guiding principle is to obtain what you want and drop your payment on the cash box provided.
"Why?” you may ask. It’s because the locals in Batanes possesses high integrity where stealing is almost unheard of. It’s quite commendable considering the absurd crime rates we have in the city.
The place itself was not mind-blowing nor breathtaking but I'm giving it 4 stars for the commendable honesty of the people there. 🏻

This coffee shop does not sell only coffee, they also have soft drinks, food items, souvenir items like t shirts, and some native pasalubong items. There is no shop keeper to assist, or collect payment. You select an item from the store, list the item on the log book and drop the payment into the box. Pay the exact amount, if you do not have change, then pay more, leave the excess payment. The store is run by a senior citizen couple, revenue derived from the store is used to buy food and medicines of the elderly couple. HONESTY IS THE BEST POLICY.

This really is just a shop. You even have to make your own coffee or prepare your bought cup noodles here. But this place is still charming that way. It's just a small store near Ivana Port. A lot of people flock here to grab a quick snack before their boat leaves. No, no one is guarding this place; hence its name. You just list down your bought items and place your payment in this box at the corner. That's what made this shop famous and admired for. In a way, it's a trademark of the Ivatan people as a whole. Crime rate is at a zero. Like Cheers, everyone knows everyone. So yeah, it'll be a shame to commit a crime here.
