We were able to catch this place just an hour before closing. And thank God for that because I was starving. The place was totally eye-catching with the shack-in-sky-blue-and-yellow theme. I love the theme and ambience of the place. It kinda gave me beach vibes minus the sweltering heat and the sand that get getting in between your toes.

It's a fast casual restaurant. So don't expect waiters to come to your table to take your orders, give you your dishes, and ensure that your glasses of water always full. You come up to the counter to place your order and they give you this thing that buzzes to let you know your orders are ready (can someone please tell me what that's called?). You get your food, you fill your own glass of water and refill ypur gravy all by yourself.

Anyway, we decided to get the Original Signature Large Chicken in 1) salt and pepper and 2) barbeque flavors.

When they said large, they weren't joking. One piece of their signature large chicken is bigger than my face! We immediately concluded that we'll need one more serving of rice each to fully enjoy this meal.

The salt and pepper is your typical fried chicken. But somehow theirs was packed with flavors. I didn't use any gravy (not a fan) and it's flavor was enough to make my tastebuds happy.

But if you're sawa na with typical, then you will definitely enjoy the barbeque. The chicken was sauced just right and the flavor is oozing to the core. I hate those fried chicken dishes where the flavor is just on the surface of the skin. So this definitely didn't disappoint.

Please have a branch somewhere near Paseo de Roxas cor. Dela Roxas, Makati. I swear I'll buy every other day.

Chicken and fish as big as your face!

Having never been to Taiwan where Hot Star is peddled as a street food cart, and having no branch at all in Makati / BGC, we were finally able to try this on a trip to Bluebay for the cat cafe.

You have several choices of chicken flavors and fish to choose from. Three of us ordered one each of the crispy chicken, original chicken, and crispy fish with 2 rice meals and one with mashed potato. We liked it! We were happy it wasn't as oily as we dreaded. The batter was light and crispy on all orders. No bones at all.

We upgraded our drinks to the almond + black gulaman combo which we loved. It tasted like a slushie, not too sweet. Super refreshing.

This is a smallish restaurant. We choose to eat on their al fresco area on a cool summer afternoon. Plus eating inside might make our clothes smelly from all the frying. We enjoyed our stay here because it was very breezy too.

This is not something we can eat everyday. But we were happy with this branch. With all the add-ons, our bill came out to a little over 800 for 3 people.

This is located on a commercial complex with a spacious grass area where families gather to bike, play with bubbles (the bubble guy was laughing all the way to the bank) and relax. We did not seem to have trouble parking.

Affordable price. crispy chicken was definitely tastier than the original. Maliit yung serving ng rice pero ok lang kasi mabubusog ka naman sa laki ng chicken hehe! Gravy was ok lang. Medyo matabang. Ordered mashed potatoes and gulaman "slurpee" and masarap din, naubos ng baby ko hehe di lang sya ganun ka-kid friendly kasi walang high chair and medyo mainit yung place.

(Pictured: my hand next to their chicken) Here's a nice way to have your fill without the guilt. Their large chicken, which is actually half a chicken, is tender. Between the original and the crispy, I think the latter is better. However, I do find it strange that they actually serve gravy even if you asked for some sauce on your chicken. In my case, I had the barbecue sauce but when the accumulated sauce in my mouth started getting a bit too spicy, I found the perfect use for the gravy. Dip the chicken, sauce and all in the gravy and neutralize the spice. Either that was what was happening or my tongue finally got numb from all that spice. Seriously though, the only downside here is that they only serve Pepsi products.

It was actually my first time to try this and was really surprised of its size. I thought, at first, it was just about the size. Value for money and taste were never compromised. Thumbs up for my BBQ Chicken Meal 128077🏼

Their Crispy Large Fried Chicken, is well, crispy and crunchy indeed. I like this more than the original ones. Also, I actually like their gravy..it's savory. 128522

I first heard about this place from my friend when we first went here in Blue Bay last year. He said it's the biggest chicken he's had so far in Asia.

After staying inside the cold AC of Manila's Best Coffee, Marge and I decided to walk around and chill in the grassy area, taking in the dogs, families, and the Titas of Manila. We weren't hungry yet but since we need to eat dinner and it'll probably be a long time before we come back here, we decided to give Hot Star a try.

Dining area was jampacked so we had to wait for available seats. Serving time was also a bit slow for a quick service restaurant. The staff was definitely hustlin' but they were swamped. It took at least 15 to 20 minutes for our order of Original Large Fried Chicken. The chicken's size was like twice of my palm! It probably can be shared between two small eaters. But if you're a big eater then this is definitely for you.

Rice gravy was a bit bland. And the chicken coating definitely became a negative for me. Umay factor!
Upon closer inspection, you'd see the oil still sticking inside the coating. The meat is definitely tasty and tender though so that's a plus. The thick coating preserved the juiciness of the chicken.

Would I go back? Probably not.

My friend and I were sitting on the grassy ground of Bluebay, looking at the old women who were waiting for the zumba to start. I said, "Here comes the Titas of Manila."

I was anything but hungry because we just had coffee at Manila's Best Coffee but I spotted Hot Star Chicken and remembered, "Hey, this is where you can find chicken as big as your face." I heard so much about when it opened and have always been wanting to give it a try. Now that I was already there and it's not like I go to Pasay everyday, I decided to finally eat there.

My friend and I just ordered one original chicken meal, no extra rice, and it turns out to be a good decision. The chicken is so big, I think 3 people of my size can share it. It's not as big as my face, it's bigger than my face.

The meat is tender, but the breaded skin tasted like oil. I told my friend that it's "Umay in Manila," because that's how I find it, "nakakaumay."

I'm not too keen about going back.

Here's a curious find. I am told t started as a stall in a market in Taiwan that has grown so popular it now has branches in Hong Kong and the Philippines. They serve large breaded chicken with rice and drink. It actually comes with gravy although I am told the original did not. Frankly, I think it is best eaten without it as the gravy is a bit watered down version of KFC's gravy. The breading is good enough without it. There are other versions like barbecue steak that I intend to try when I return. The rice is a bit small compared to half the chicken you're about to have but for me it was just right. The down side is that they only offer Pepsi products for drinks but there are other drinks available. Go hungry first then enjoy!

The portions are massive. I swear their chicken is like the size of an adult human face...maybe larger. I wonder which part of the chicken was used for it though... 128530

Anyway, this particular branch tends to be packed during lunch times, being close to government and business offices. Come earlier or later than lunch time if you can!

Also, cross all your fingers for this joint's expansion. There are not enough tables inside and at noon, tell me who in their right mind would want to sit out at the blazing heat while eating a hot meal????

I'll give you a hint...no one.

It's big alright. It's big because it has been pounded to be flat and the meat to be more tender. But the breading is just overkill. Ang kapal ng breading. Ever heard of the Angel's Burger joke? "Sa unang kagat! Tinapay Lahat!" Well this is the chicken equivalent. It's just a big bland chunk of chicken. Even their spaghetti is bland. Sorry, not coming back here. 128532

I've tried this in Taipei years ago. The taste was not really remarkable but it was rather quite an experience because I needed to line up for this in the middle of a busy street. Here in Manila, you can easily get a taste of their big juicy breaded chicken (it's not boneless; rather a chicken breast that's been pounded) in the convenience of an air-conditioned dining area. If you enjoy Big Daddy's (a local resto that obviously "borrowed" from Hot Star) version of this, why not try the original?

Huge fried chicken!

Never gets old. Ate this first in Taipei's ShiLin Market
I love the taste! Yum yum yum!

My only comment would be. Why is your rice tooooooooo small?!?!? Filipinos love rice and i really hope their rice is as big as their chicken haha

Their spaghetti wasn't bad too 128522128522128522
