Bigger than my face!!!

Kahit dami na choices ng flavor, the best pa rin yung orig, classic!

Their famous Original Chicken with barbecue sauce.

After trying it twice, my verdict is still 3stars. The chicken is big, I couldn't finish it and seems like they added MSG in it?

The branch is huge, perfect large groups.

Will I come back? Not anytime soon. 128517

I’ve always been curious as to how their 12” large fried chicken was cooked and seasoned — and if their chicken really is as big as diners rave about.

Fast forward to last year when Hot Star opened a branch ‘round my neck of the woods (Shaw 500 Zentrum to be exact). It was only then that my family and I were able to try it. Finally!

In Taiwan, Hot Star is just a small kiosk at Taipei Shilin Night Market. But here in the Philippines, Hot Star stores are spacious, air-conditioned and cozy… Far from their Taiwan set-up.

I immediately noticed the colors of the store – blue and yellow – which best reminded me of lemonade drinks. Little did I know that they actually does serve blue lemonade! The attractive colors alone were enough to pull me into their establishment.

Since Hot Star is a self-service establishment, I immediately went to the counter and perused their menu to check out what’s new. Ending? I got all 3 of Hot Star’s large signature offerings! No judging, please!

The Hot Star Crispy Large Chicken variant actually does span the entire area of my face! Since this dish is fried upon ordering, it was really crispy, moist and had a beautiful golden brown exterior. We had the red hot variant which gives off that slooooow burn. You can either eat it as is or with their gravy (especially if you think the spice is too much for you). Either way, it tastes great.

The Hot Star Original Large Chicken on the other hand was perfectly cooked. It had a nice crunch and texture, plus the salt & pepper seasoning was just right.

But never leave Hot Star without trying their crunchy Chicken Skin! It’s absolutely crispy and sinfully good. I’d still eat this over and over again! Then, pair any of your Hot Star favorites with their thirst quenching Ice Crushed drinks that have been my fave as of late. Either Almond, Black Gulaman or combo.

My usual order is their HS1!

I like their chicken! It's really huge and for sure you will need extra rice! One order is good to share !

Their gravy is just normal for me. Actually when I first tasted this in Taipei, Taiwan. They didn't have gravy nor rice. Just the chicken itself! People fell in line as well cause it was that famous!

Glad they brought it to the Philippines!

This fastfood chain is tricky. You get a large fried chicken for around P120 without drink or rice. At first you would thought mura or nakatipid ka, but actually the logic is that its almost the same price with regular 2pc chicken you will get from other quick service resto. But then again, their chicken is literally large. Pwede for 2 persons actually. The taste is new but not really masarap. Sakto lang. Its just nice to have something new to try on. The staff are not really friendly. Siguro dahil gabi na ng bumisita kami and they are pagod already. The rice serving is really konti P20. Parang half rice lang siya actually.

Overall, hotstar is just okay. Not really bad but they have a lot to improve on.

It's so big that you can share, the rice was a little small tho. First couple of bites were exceptional, but since it's huge, mauumay ka halfway through.

Chickens are big because of how they were cut, and mainly because they put a lot of breading. Considering its serving size, it's actually cheaper than ordering one piece chicken meal at KFC. We ordered the classic and bbq chicken, and added some chicken nuggets as it looked yummy. Both classic and bbq were okay (not good, not bad) except for the chicken nuggets. Serving time took longer than expected.

Pocket-friendly meal for only P145. The chicken is not large, it is GIGANTIC. I tried the original large fried chicken, nothing was special except its size. Thanks to the gravy, it tasted better.

Their french fries was bland, too. The P60 is not worth it.

Their comfort room smelled bad and had no water. -______- The only good thing in this food chain was the size of the chicken.

The chicken here are so gigantic you'd wonder if they are really chicken or some genetically modified animal meat. They flatten out chicken breasts, bread them and deep fry them. I like the BBQ flavored ones. They're juicy and soft but I wish it's more crispy. Some parts are mealy, parang undercooked yun breading. It comes with gravy but its not good at all so ignore it. I didnt like the original flavor because its bland.

But HotStar appeals to budget conscious people-students and workers alike. Imagine for P160 you can divide one order of chicken into three, order extra rice and have your hunger satisfied.
