Hukad by Golden Cowrie is definitely a gem to Cebuanos. They serve well-loved Filipino favorites at very affordable prices.

My best friend and I had guests from Germany and they wanted to sample some Filipino comfort food and so we came here. We ordered a looooot but I must say, we spent surprisingly so little. My buddy and I really thought we'd incur so much damage, but I guess Cebu pricing is really just better for quality food.

We started with their Baked Scallops. Buttery, garlicky goodness baked to perfection with just ooey gooey cheese! It was the perfect way to start the meal!

Next we had the Ngohiong. This is Cebu's version of lumpia, only better! It's a vegetable spring roll double-fried in a flour-based batter and served with spicy sauce! Absolutely delicious!

For veg, we had their Adobong Talong. I really enjoyed this dish. The texture of the eggplant was wonderful, it was cooked perfectly. The taste of the sauce was such a delight with the pieces of garlic and the sweet-savory adobo sauce was absolutely delicious.

Their Sinigang was also such a delight. It was perfectly cooked, the ultimate comfort food, indeed.

We also enjoyed an order of their Grilled Tuna Belly. It was so tender and juicy, wonderfully cooked and it tasted delicious!

Of course the star for the night was the Crispy Pata. Utterly crispy skin with super tender meat, it was super yummy. This was the favorite of our guests.

We will definitely come back for more!

The pork sisig, scallops and bicol express make me go back to this place. The wait to get in takes too long though.

Good lutong bahay Filipino food that's only in Visayas! (They branched out to Bacolod already) Happy Fiesta lang ang peg as our team ordered so much more than we can consume hahaha 128514128514128514 so most of us had to take home food pa. But that's not a bad thing so long as the taste is great... Which is, in this case! 128516128516128516 Will come back for sure. 128522

It was a Saturday and I was looking forward to eat here. Although I was warned by my Cebuano friends, I insisted for the sake of experience.

I was really craving for Sizzling Tofu and Leche Flan. It was just past 6pm and we decided to eat dinner bc they said long lines were expected. So, anyway, I approached the lady in front of the restaurant to ask about the tofu. She said they have it and it's called Sisig Tofu. So we waited to be seated for about 2-3 minutes.

We ordered Sisig Tofu, Halang-Halang (spicy chicken-curry in white sauce), Pancit Guisado, and the Ginataang Langka. We all had fresh BJs. I also ordered Leche Flan, but to my surprise (and dismay), it was not available. It felt so frustrating on my part bc I was really craving for it! I was like "oh forget it!"

Anyway, the Pancit was served first, then the BJ. It looked salty but tasted just right. Although I didn't really like it, it's like a "pwede na" dish.

The Halang-Halang was okay, tasted like Bicol Express.

The Ginataang Langka was ordinary.

The Sisig Tofu was not good at all, esp when compared to Max's! It wasn't served like the one in their menu, like I think a few ingredients were lacking. I really love tofu but it was really disappointing that it didn't even taste half of what I expected. It has ginger in it, and I'm not sure what the white sauce is made up of, but it tasted like there's 'gata'. #fail

Even the fresh Buko juice didn't taste good. It was served room temp, I was expecting it would be on ice but yeah, another failure.

For the service, it felt like I'm in a fast food restaurant, although their service wasn't fast. "Magulo" is the word.

Everything needs improvement, the food, the service, the ambience(?). Idk if I'll ever come back here or in any Golden Cowrie. Surely, it was one sad dinner with the twins.

The very first time we ate here was I think about more than a century. I will never forget it because it's also the first time that I have ever tasted "Kilawing Tanigue sa Gata" oooh! It was heaven in my mouth. The fish that is cooked in vinegar and coconut milk is just right, it has a bit of gingery taste which I think serves to prevent the "lansa" or fishy feel in the palette, you can really savor the coconut milk and it's not overpowering. So, after that it somehow became a tradition, that whenever we visit Cebu, we'll surely get some of this. My latest visit was just last year, early 2013. This time I am more attentive, and creative if I may say of what I want to try. We had Baked Scallops which I just can't get enough of! Haha! Then, crunchy deep fried shrimps that you have to dip it to spicy vinegar to complement the taste. Grilled seafoods are good too! It's fresh! However, you really have to wait in line because there are many guests. But, yeah it's worth the wait! Oh, and I've been really wishing that they would expand here in Manila, well not that I know of. Hopefully! 9996️The next time you visit Cebu, try this!

HUKAD is a Filipino resto located at AyalaMall. This place is always fullhouse and you have to wait to be seated during peakhours. Rice is eat all u can and verygood thing coz food is really good! Service might take time but its worth the wait. There is a feel of being just at home on a sunday afternoon for a normal Filipino family. The price might not be appealing to the D n E class though.

Filipino food focused on specialties of cebu island. I've tried the crispy pata, kinilaw na tanguigue, crispy shrimps, adobong kangkong, sinigang na tuna, shrimp calamares.... Lutong bahay probinsya style but in a modern atmosphere... Instead of plates, banana leaves are used to infuse a native feel... the restaurant is 1st class and cozy. What amazes me is that mostly foreigners eat here, which means they dig filipino food. Reserve ahead of time if u want to get seated because the waiting line keeps piling up when dinner time arrives... Feel at home..

Ribs were more tender than Casa Verde's but don't have sauce. Price was Php380 i think.

Cheap food. Php375 for a large crispy pata. But the sauce for crispy pata has this pungent taste. Maybe because of the lambanogish suka. 128540

There was a small cockroach at the wash area!!! 128123

Not the best among other Filipino restaurants, I still prefer Gerry's Grill but since I wanted to try a new restaurant and it's a bit affordable from the rest,i went for HUKAD. I tried their baked scallops, grilled squid and bicol express. Scallops was good but I was looking for a little hint of sweetness. it was all the way salty but atleast it melts in the mouth, which is something I also look for on my baked scallops. The grilled squid was alright, nothing special to it while the bicol express was ridiculous. no pork/beef at all, just plain beans. I haven't tried their Crispy Pata though, wherein other reviews says it's great. Overall, i appreciated it but will I ever go back? Yes, but not so soon!
