Since I was in the area, I decide to explore a bit and ended up in Ichiro for dinner. I grabbed the Crunchy Ichiro Roll which is basically a fried roll with ebi, mango, and cheese. It's a little pricey at 300php and is served with miso soup. It was good but I've had better (Holla Ginza Bairin's Tonkatsu Roll!) 128513

I am a big fan of cheeserolls sooo I had their Cheeseroll katsu. It was good! 128523 The Maki was average, according to the boyfriend. (I hate California Maki, in general.) Red iced tea tasted like sugar water. Lol.
Place was spacious. Staff were okay.

This may be pricey for students, but for me, 6pcs salmon sushi for P170 is already worth it. To think most japanese places inside the malls are 2pcs for P190, right?

127843127843127843 yey! Satisfied now! Been craving for weeks!!! 128574 this is sooo worth it, soft salmon on top plus the place is quiet and japanese-y. Hehhee!!!! This is sooooooooooo worth it!!

127843 is 10084️! Haha! 128514

Will try their 8pcs maki the next time. Around the same price, too 128077🏻

I liked their Salmon Teriyaki the first time I tried it a few months back. But when I had it for take out last week, it was meh. Additional PhP7.00 for the take out box.

Their Chicken Teriyaki was just okay. I didn't like it that much because the chicken pieces were dry and slightly tough.

Ordered their chicken curry rice for 125 php. The rice was generously topped with curry sauce, potato, onions and chicken. Was full after eating the whole bowl. Serving time was around 5 mins.

Could improve on cleanliness, better spaces between each table and staff manners. The waiters just slides the food tray on our table when they served it. So much in a hurry.

It's like a cheaper Yabu. Not unlimited though. But worth the price! 128522

This bowl of salmon teriyaki was pretty good. And affordable too. PhP 195 with a glass of iced tea. Tasted good and the serving was just right. Just don't expect a Yabu-or-Maisen-ish experience. 128521

The first time i've been here, i think about a year ago, I liked the place because of the graffiti on their wall that gave the place a nice vibe.

I forgot what dish I tried then. Today, i came back and tried their chicken katsu. It was just okay for me. I didn't quite like the sauce for the katsu. The miso soup and the red iced tea were just okay, well.

Maybe i can try another dish next time.

Had the Cheese Katsu Large (P185). Starting with the pork, it was normal, nothing special. Ham and cheese did give it a boost but that's it. Miso tasted like water. Meh. Rice wasn't Japanese at all by look alone. Texture wasn't great either. Cheaper version of Yabu? That's an insult to Yabu, honestly. Cabbage though was a bright side. Still fresh.

Would I come back? Japanese places are tough to be loyal to just one. Probably not.

I was browsing Looloo this afternoon in search for some good and affordable eats around Taft area and I came across Ichiro. I read some of the reviews and decided to give it a try.

We ordered the large Hire Katsu (pork tenderloin, the one in the photo) and the Cheeseroll Katsu (pork, ham and cheese). It really is the cheaper alternative to Yabu!! The miso soup is surprisingly delicious as well as the katsu meals we ordered.

Definitely worth the try! 128521128076

Ordered their Hire Katsu with J yesterday lunch. The salad was overdressed. Soup was okay. The katsu was tender enough and not as dry as the ones we had from Saboten Glorietta 5 branch. Their rice wasn't authentic Japanese rice though which was a disappointment. They used to serve authentic Jap rice a few months back so we were surprised when the rice they served yesterday was meh. I find that the type of rice is a huge factor in the katsu experience.

I am obsessed with Katsu so visiting Ichiro has become a weekly routine. It's my alternative to Yabu since it's much cheaper. Don't expect unlimited rice and cabbage though. Taste, price, service are all good.

I have to say that I absolutely love Ichiro, it's a cozy little Japanese restaurant that exudes both a certain casual and fancy vibe at the same time.

Their menu has a lot of choices from 100+ php tuna rolls to Katsu sets complete with miso soup, a side salad, and rice for around 135php.

The food is great! The prices are fair and the service may be a tad slow whenever it's rush hour but that's because good food shouldn't be rushed.

If you're expecting a lot of powerful flavour then this place may not be for you as Japanese food focuses on a more simple, elegant, and fresh tastes that Ichiro definitely delivers.

Plus, the staff are pretty nice and approachable. The restaurant is kept quite clean and the ambiance is relaxing despite there being a lot of people talking inside. There are minor downsides such as the waiting time when the restaurant is full.

Ordered their tofu in a bowl and found nothing special. The rice is too oily that made me eat my tofu and vegetables only.
