Lately, I've been craving authentic Japanese food. I've been searching far and wide even resulting to fast food Japanese just to satiate the craving. Good thing I discovered Ippon Yari. Living in the south, there are lots of options whether independent or franchised food concepts. Other times, you neglect the old restaurants and tend to flock the newly opened restaurant at your local area.

I have passed Ippon Yari countless of times and did not even bother to check it out. In my mind, it is expensive and not worth the time but when push comes to a shove, here we are. 128541

You have to climb a flight of stairs and once you come in, you will be greeted by a Japanese style interior. It has a local sports bar vibe with a choice of a non-smoking or smoking area.

We chose the non-smoking area, ordered ramen, tempura and tofu. It was delicious. Price is reasonable. Serving is big. It has a good ambiance but the servers are not very quick and distracted. Maybe because they were catering more to the people in the main area. There's a bell you can ring if you want service.

Overall, I would definitely be back. Who doesn't love a good tempura?

We just recently moved to Sta. Rosa and missed all our favorite restaurants in Metro Manila. So imagine our delight when we discovered this authentic Japanese resto so close to home! I love their gyoza - better than Osaka Ohsho's methinks!

I'm giving it 4 stars because the ambiance of the non-smoking area where we dined wasn't very charming (read: mukhang carinderia, hehe). The big smoking room definitely felt very Japanese though.

We will definitely be back!

Got their katsudon and it was fantastic! Rice is just right. Not too dry and sticky. The meat is very tender and the egg around it with the sauce is just perfect. Service and staff is great. They also gave us a complimentary fruits while ordering. When visiting the resto, mostly the customers are japanese, korean, whatsoever. You'll definitely see, feel, and taste that they serve authentic food. Every time that I'm craving for a katsudon I always look for this place. 128077

Our lunch after some family fun at Tagaytay.
This is a good Japanese place with decent prices. Frequented by the Japanese working in the area (Toyota folks, I think). Being meant for the Japanese here implies quality is good to great. And also that the smaller area is for non-smokers.
The ramen is good. Not Tamagoya great, but good. The wakame was seasoned very well. Appetizing to the last bit. And the koebi karaage was crispy and flavorful. A nice treat, especially with their draft beer (SMB sold for Php45).
On a side note: this place has a magazine cabinet/table carrying various Japanese magazines, like those showing cute girls in bathings suits. It also carries some manga.

I used to visit Ippon Yari in Gen. Trias Cavite and been there many times, food there was awesome. So for this branch is not that impressive. I ordered the Miso Noodles and of course I should expect the same quality as Gentrias branch but it was a failure. Broth was forgiveable since it really taste like Miso but it was too salty, I even asked for an extra glass of hot water just to dilute the river of salt in my bowl. My mother order the Nagasaki special which is their seafood noodle version, broth was salty as well. So far Kenji Tei is still better since i havent tasted ukkokei and ramen bar, someday! Waitresses we're very rude and was not listening on the right set of order that we had and ended up serving a wrong order.

Overall experience is not ok.

Now this is the real deal.

Unlike the John and Yoko trash I recently had, Ippon Yari serves legit Japanese food at its finest! Located just across Paseo de Sta Rosa, it is a hidden treasure of the south. Japanese people of all ages flock this old time restaurant. They've been serving great japanese food aince the 90's.

On this visit i had the beef curry rice and gyoza. The gyoza was cooked perfectly! Brown on one side, half cooked on the other. Now this is the way you cook gyoza. And the curry... The plate flows with curry! If they could just serve me rice with curry i'd still be happy! I even had an extra serving of roce because the big serving of rice just wasnt enough for the monstrous amount of curry! As a bonus, coffee and/or tea is free! Any order you eat here is worth every peso.

Good food, good ambience and good servicw. Enough reasons why i keep coming back to this place!
