When in Vigan City, eat Empanada!

Had a few orders of Special Pork Longganisa Empanada at Irene’s Empanada. I took advantage of it while we were there. Light orange colored shell with papaya filling. The thin shell breaks like glass making it crispier and lighter.
TRIVIA: Irene’s Empanada was voted as the best empanada in 2013.

So you are in Vigan? Got tired and hungry from walking around Vigan Heritage Village - one of the new 7 wonder cities? Then this spot is perfect to satisfy your hunger. This empanada is different from the orange empanada (which is famous in Batac) very delicious! Worth the calories (even cholesterol! 128514) It has longganisa, veggies, and egg - it's up to you if you want to make it more special. Worth a try! 128077

P.S. Disregard my first review for Irene's. Accidentally hit 'submit'. Busy with work and failed to edit it within the given time huhu!

When in Vigan, you should never miss out on empanada. Sure, there are lots of food stalls at Plaza Burgos, but if you try to walk around Vigan Plaza, you'll get to try the best from the best. Irene's has been a regular hangout for us back in high school, during semestral breaks, and up until now. I think the very reason why we keep coming back besides the memories is that they offer equally delicious ('naimas' in Ilocano) and crunchy ('nasarangsang' in Ilocano) okoy and Vigan empanada, even after all these years, still the same quality.

Just to give you an update, they now have a branch along Calle Crisologo. But I prefer going back to their main branch, again with the memories.

As suggested by our manong tour guide, we tried Irene's. Yes it is tasty/yummy but they served us the pre-cooked empanadas.. Maybe we were really expecting too high...

When you try to google about the famous empanada store in vigan. Definitely, Irene's empanada will be on the list. ✔️

Vigan's empanada is truly different. It was served fresh, hot and crunchy. Its not the typical empanada that you can buy here in manila. The texture is like nachos. Its crunchy! The pork special is their best seller. Its really tasty added with vinegar plus sweet and spicy sauce. Grabe ang sarap!128077128523

Nothing fancy about the place. Its like an ordinary carinderia here in manila. But still dinadayo talaga sya here in vigan.

Ms. Irene looks so tired that day but still kind enough to smile on the camera. 128513 i cant afford not to have a souvenir with the queen of empanada. 128120 pano ba naman 9am palang ang daming ng orders.

A really must try in Vigan!

Irene's is my favorite empanadahan. I love the flavour of their filling, the suka, and lasona. I would give them 5 stars if not for the cold empanada. Theu used to make it fresh as you order, but they now serve pre-made ones. Quality isnt as good as before.

We were looking for a good place to eat empanada in Vigan and I suggested Irene's Empanada, thanks to Looloo!

Personally, me and my girl friend liked it but the rest of the group said it was just okay. Mas masarap pa daw yung sa Plaza. One of them gave more than half of her empanada to her bf because it's super oily and not that crispy. But hey, the service and staff were great. 128522

Tried their specialties, they were really good! Empanada: Crunchy yung outside with a filling (mixture of egg, longganisa I think haha etc.) + okoy (shrimp and flour) though hindi masyadong appealing but still good ;)

You can't go to Ilocos and not try an authentic Empanada. You just can't. So when the girlfriend and I had our Ilocos trip a couple of weeks ago, we searched for the best empanadas in Ilocos.

I'm not sure if everybody's aware but there are 2 kinds of Ilocos empanada: the Laoag empanada (the orange one) and the Vigan empanada (no food color). We tried the one in Laoag before we tried Irene's. It was in Batac and it's a small place called Glory's. We liked it. It's far better than the empanadas here in Manila. So when we went to Vigan the following day, it was also a goal to find the best Vigan empanada. We googled, and Irene's kept on coming up as the best.

And it is, hands down, I swear on anybody's Lola's grave, the best empanada ever. It's the best there is, the best there was, the best there ever will be. Yup, ala Bret "The Hitman" Hart.

Luckily, Irene's was very near the hotel we were staying in, so we didn't have difficulty searching for the place. The empanada joint was just small, and they only serve one kind of empanada. They don't have the special or double special that others have. But it's enough. It's more than enough. It's so good the girlfriend and I had 2. Anybody who's planning to go to Vigan SHOULD. GO. HERE.

It's so good that we're planning to have one weekend to go to Vigan just to eat their empanada, then go back to Manila after. It's that good.

Convinced yet? You should. And you'll never regret it.
