Isshin is one of those old standbys along Pasay Road, it's been there even before I started working. Looks like they have reason to be :)

I spent the whole afternoon cooped up in my room and I wanted to honor my promise not to step out for dinner because of the rain. And because I was under the weather, I wanted soup, specifically sukiyaki. Good thing Isshin has it on their menu, and more importantly, they deliver! When the delivery guy arrived around 35 mins later, the soup was still hot (not enough to cook the raw egg right away, but still burns the tongue). And because sukiyaki orders are usually large, I had more than half still left over in my ref for another day.

Salmon sashimi is par for the course. Looks small but probably still equivalent to an order at Nihonbashitei.

I've given this restaurant a couple of chances already, but unfortunately, both times didn't work for me. I'd always leave with a bad taste in my mouth and an upset stomach. Nothing like a quick trip to the restroom to fix things 128169 haha, but still! The first time i didnt think too much of it, but the second time tells me there might be something wrong.

The tempura bento set was alright but their fried tofu was oily and 'nakakaumay'. The Isshin special ramen was bleehhhh 128541, especially for something they claim as their 'special'. The soy broth was oily and salty, and the vegetables didnt taste cooked. The chashu slices tasted old and tough, and its as if they used an extra shrimp from the sashimi platter to make it look pretty. Yes, i could taste the vinegar used in making sushi rice on the shrimp. 128541 The gyoza? Just ho-hum. And very oily.

Maybe its because the owners aren't even Japanese? But that'd be too hasty of a generalization saying only the Japanese can make good Japanese food. 128517 I really dont know, i'm just sure i wont be making a 3rd visit anytime soon. 128533

Where else can you find japanese food at this hour other than the ones along arnaiz ave, i decided to dine here tonight, this was my goto place until i switch to nihonb. But i miss their isshins ramen so i ordered it and also their gyoza, the ramen is good, gyoza didnt arrive until after 3 follow ups and more than halfway finishing my ramen. When it was ready to be serve, my gyoza was just waiting at the counter for quite some time so i got to pick it up myself 128544 to my disaapointment it was badly burned at one side, told the server about it and rather than wait for a new one i had to cancel it. To my surprise the gyoza that i just return was serve to the other table 128552

Valentine's lunch with our family and relatives. We each have our own order so will give my family's comments as well.

We had an overnight stay at Crowne Regency and I asked Front Desk for a resto recommendation. She told me abt this old Japanese resto just beside the hotel.

At first, I wasn't so sure abt Isshin bec it's facade looks old. I browsed thru the menu and found their prices reasonable and cheaper than d usual ramen or Japanese places. Perfect for our already starving group with kids who will be impatient to travel to farther venues.

Inside the resto, I liked the Japanese set up of removing our slippers and eating like a Japanese should. The menu was also old and beaten but offered a wide selection.

I ordered the Seafood ramen P220. It had 3 big tahong pieces, some squid slices, crab sticks, noodles and lots of fresh vegetables. The soup lacks saltiness so I season it with spicy powder.

Kids had tempura ramen P225. I asked the waitress to separate the tempura from d soup. The bowl was full of noodles, vegetables and had separate plate of 3 tempuras. Sulit! The tempura was crispy and big. It's not d usual small shrimp inside, full of breadings on d outside. Although The sauce was gingery than it should be.

I got to taste their teriyaki chicken. Love d rich flavor.

My husband ordered d Isshin special ramen P199. He loved d dish but I forgot to see what was composed of his noodles. I just saw the half boiled egg.

My mother ordered Chahan P138. She sat on the other table so I didn't get to see the serving size. But my mom enjoyed it and she shared the dish with my MIL.

The rest of my relatives ordered rice meals. They had a hard time finishing their meals since the bowl was full of rice. Siksik!

Hope we can come back soon. With a little renovation on our next visit. 128522

Good service, average food.

Their salmon cheese sushi was too sticky, too creamy. Tempura ok. Gyoza was the best, but I don't know anyone that can fuck that up.

For a cheap price, nothing beats the heavenly taste of beef ramen on a cold, rainy night. Place needs a new decor, though. Service, superb.

This place needs a facelift. Nothing is patently bad but nothing is notably good either. Everything was just average. The best part of the meal was the hot tea and the free ice cream that came with the meal. Service was also commendable.

(Late post)

An option at 1am in the morning

Typical aged japanese diner.....serving Filipino japanese food

Katsu curry (225) meat was good enough, with the right crunch & grease... But of course .. Obvious, cant compare to the good ones around specializing in katsu dishes ... Curry was tasty enough as well

Misochasumen (235)... Not worth trying

EBI tempura (275) ... Shrimp not plump or fresh enough ... But good enough to fill up the tummy

Tempura maki is delish!!

Ambiance is a ++ since you get to experience how they somehow sit while they eat in Japan!

They were very good before. What happened Isshin? You've lost both the charm and magic.

If you are a ramen addict, then this restaurant is not for you. The broth is not the usual you can get in some other ramen restaurants. I can compare it to our local mami. I even asked for their best seller. Thank goodness their spicy tuna cheese roll is ok.

Was craving for ramen but it was too late at night. Fortunately, Isshin closes late. Their ramen was okay -- not as expensive as the trendy ramen places. So that means you get what you pay for. 128522

But I didn't like the service at all. Their servers didn't know the menu, had no idea what are the kinds of ramen they're offering, and is always MIA. 128544

Had midnight munchies with the wifey after drinks on the town. We were suppose to go to another restaurant but they were closed so we decided to go to isshin.

Last time I was here I was single, hungry and little buzzed. Now only difference is that I'm married. The place still looks the same after all these years, the crowd... Probably still the same party drunk people looking for Japanese comfort food.

We ordered Ebi tempura, ramen katsu curry, salmon sashimi, spicy tuna with cream cheese maki and gyoza.

Sad to say we really didn't enjoy our meal. Gyoza was excellent! Salmon sashimi wasn't fresh. The maki roll was good but nothing compared to other restaurants. The tempura was good according to my wife. The katsu curry was decent but done major umami factor was missing.

I don't know if my taste buds have changed because of all the great Japanese restos in the metro or I wasn't drunk enough. But I don't see myself coming back here in the near future.
