Lots of raves on their wagyu beef cubes and I felt like my one hour waiting to be seated was not worth it! :( They came out burnt pa. :(

I had to endure waiting in the smoking area because they couldn't seat us at the non-smoking because we are a party of 15 and the line for the non-smoking was super long. I found the other dishes to be just okay, nothing exceptional and not something I'd go back to. Sayang ang travel to makati lol

Last wednesday me and my friend was planning to have a try with Urameshi since we had a meeting in Makati. Sadly wagyu and scallop was not available so for me it wasn't worth it without those. So we go to our second option the always full house Izakaya Kikufuji. When we arrived it was still early for dinner so we got a great seat.

Izakaya Kikufuji is probably for me the best authentic japanese resto around makati. The feel, atmosphere and food was very authentic. Price are also very reasonable for around 200-300. On this visit we got the fresh thick sliced salmon sashimi. Yummy! For yakitori we got chicken skin, wagyu cubes and seashells. Everything was delicious. I love the simple salt and pepper seasoning that bring out all the flavor to this sticks. Next was their big tiger prawn tempura another hit for me. Last but not the least my fave grilled squid. It got the element I want in a dish. Flavorful taste and soft chewy texture. 128077

Overall this place is definitely a must go for japanese food lover. So why only 411088️? Suplada si ateng waitress hehe.. 9996🏻

Salmon's so fresh. Perfect place to get your japanese fix! Staple orders aside from sashimi: spicy salmon or tuna maki, tempura, and a stick of those wagyu cubes.

Lines get long, so go early! Servers are so busy, you better not tick them off. 128513

To cap I and my wife's dining out experience this 2016, we went to one of our favorite restos of all time - KIKUFUJI!

I suddenly had the urge to eat some authentic Japanese cuisine, and I wanted something healthy. My wife on the other hand, was craving for some wagyu beef cubes.

We went in to dine there at noon to.catch their lunch specials - lunch sets that are relatively cheaper than if you ordered from the regular menu.

I got the Saba (mackarel) set which consisted of the grilled fish and rice plus the usual sides of spicy crunchy tuna, a vegetable salad, sautéed cabbage with pork?, and miso soup.

My wife ordered her wagyu beef cubes on a stick - we ordered three pieces. We also ordered a set of sashimi from their lunch sets.

The food was as usual - terrific! My mackarel was very clean tasting and was just lightly seasoned with salt. The bald guy in the kitchen seems like a master at the grill. I squeezed some calamansi unto it and it was good to go with the steaming white rice.

The Wagyu cubes were like butter. So tender you wouldnt believe its meat you're eating. The marbling of the beef was beautiful. Steak from heaven in small bites at a time.

The sashimi platter was so fresh I felt like I was seaside.

The spicy crunchy tuna side was also one of our favorites in this resto. We just had to restrain ourselves from ordering a full order of those bad boys.

After finishing your lunch sets here you can choose between an iced coffee or fruit for dessert. We choose the fruit. During your meal they also give complimentary Japanese tea - you choose if you want it hot or cold.

Burp! Thank God for this wonderful restaurant. Thank God for all of the delicious food that we were able to eat this year. Truly manna from heaven.

Happy New Year!!!

Eat where the locals eat. This is usually a foolproof way to discover authentic *insert ethnicity* food. Little Tokyo has always been that place for me. Although it looks a bit run-down nowadays, it still has its unique charm and yummy food to make up for it. Also, a lot of japanese people working here in Manila seems to be regulars of this place.

We went to Izakaya Kikufuji in one of my food trips with my friend. It was something I really looked forward to since I don't usually get to visit that side of Makati.

If you're looking at it from the outside, it's not really that enticing and not very inviting. But once you get pass that, you will be greeted with a very energetic atmosphere. A place packed with a good mix of Filipino and Japanese customers enjoying their food, waitresses in kimonos briskwalking from one table to another to get orders and a place enveloped with the distinct smell of japanese cuisine.

We appreciate how attentive and fast the waitresses were in assigning seats and making sure we are settled, then took our orders. It was dinner time when we went so we ended up seating in the smoking area. Luckily, not a lot of the tables there actually had people smoking so it seemed like a regular area. I also liked that we were able to seat in a traditional looking japanese table setup where we had to seat on the floor. It felt so legit. Haha.

Now to our orders, I don't have anything bad to say so I'll just tell you how much I loved each 128513

128204 Gyu Kushi (grilled wagyu beef cubes)
THIS IS LOVE AT FIRST BITE. Even if it's tiny and quite pricey, It is worth every peso!!! MUST TRY.

128204 Korokke
This is stuffed potato with cabbage on the side. This is massive compared to what I expected, and very flavorful too. We asked for sesame dressing for the cabbage. I thought they would give the kewpie sesame dressing but they served an oil-based sesame dressing. So yummy.

128204 Spicy Maguro
Again, massive portions!! I usually get "bitin" when ordering this from other restos but this time we even had left over. The fish was so fresh too!

128204Spicy Salmon Maki
I also took home our leftover maki. The maki was big enough but you'll still be able to eat this in one bite. So satisfying.

128204 Tempura
What I loved about this is that the batter did not overpower the shrimp. 128077

Last but definitely not the least, after dinner I highly highly highly recommend trying the ice cream from DOJO DAIRY. It's also inside Little Tokyo. It's not yet listed so I'm adding it here 'cause I can't wait haha. We tried the matcha and black sesame flavors and I must say I never loved any other flavor aside from my usual coffee or pistachio but this hits the spot! They don't have seats since they're just a kiosk inside but this is a must try too! Don't miss it! :)

There you have it. :) Can't wait to be back to sample more restaurants in Little Tokyo.

Place is still packed and a long waiting time for the food to arrive so better pack on patience when dining here

Their lunch sets are super sulit!!! This place is always packed - for lunch or dinner! It's best to be there quite early (maybe when it opens) to be seated well. It was a Friday, too and not even a payday. My co-workers wanted to eat somewhere good because it was such a stressful morning for all of us. We walked to burn off steam and waited for a 10 mins to get a table. Not so bad.

I got this bowl of Tekka Don (Nami). Originally, I wanted the Maguro Uni Don, but they didn't have uni. Just wanted to keep things simple that day due to a complicated morning. The tuna is red and tastes fresh, the wasabi even better! It's the kind that's soft and traverses through your nostrils! Mmmm! Good for people with sinus problems. I also had two pieces of Inari Sushi. I love the soyed tofu wrapped around the rice. It's sweet and a bit salty at the same time. But I love, love, love, love it.

My colleagues shared Two orders of Spicy Maguro. One had a platter of mixed sushi and the other a Katsu Don. There are other items that are sometimes not available, so beware if you are craving for something specific there.

The best part of the lunch set that makes it super sulit are the two kinds of appetizers that come with it, shredded cabbage and another chopped cabbage with sauteed meat (pork, i guess), miso soup and fresh fruit or iced coffee. Obviously, the latter to cap that meal! ;)

Average spend for us was P700. There is no service charge.

Because japanese food is life 🇯🇵 Thank God for Japan and their food. Hihi. Our team decided to have a lunch at Izakaya Kikufuji because of their power lunches and because seriously, this is regarded as one of the best place for Japanese food for the longest time. We're a group of 13 so we were given our sorta private room.

Their lunch set menus are from a range of Php 200-300 which includes side dishes of raw spicy tuna with bread crumbs, cabbage, miso soup, unlimited refills of rice and well in my case I also had chopseuy but some of us had squids. They also serve house tea and the set menu comes with ice cold coffee. And what I just enumerated are just the sides, not the main course yet. For the power lunch you can try their Menchi Katsu (ground beef fried with batter almost like burger patty), Tempura (ebi and vegetables, for maybe like 5-7 pieces; the batter ain't too think so I think it's worth the price), Tonkatsu (golden brown served with cabbage and potato salad .. define carbs on carbs and humungous serving. Thickly sliced and their sauce is great), Katsudon (traditional katsu with egg on topped of a big rice bowl. This one lacks salt so you can opt to add soy sauce instead. But big big serving!!), Grilled salmon and mackerel (seasoned just fine and nicely grilled). I like their spicy tuna maki too cause it has a certain spiciness to fit your liking. The iced coffee is served last to cap off that great lunch.

The place is usually packed so come in a little early before lunch. It's even more packed on the evenings. They say their sashimi is heaven so I will have to go back and try those next time.

Like what I said we were given a semi private room but near the smoking area. Yes, the place has aircon and all but smoking is allowed inside so beware of that. And the service ... I don't think the servers deserve a 10% service charge because they are not professionals. They yell back at each other, when taking many orders like our cases the lady tend to loose her patience and just shouts back. They sound always irritable.

The food is great and affordable however the service is bad. If you're near the area and a sashimi fan fan, you can definitely try this and satisfy that japanese craving of yours.
