I've been in the supermarket retail industry for almost 8 months now, but it was only last November 23 that I got to attend a store opening. Since our new branch is situated at Nasugbu, Batangas, those who were assigned to attend the event were allowed to stay overnight in a beach resort nearby, so we won't have to travel early on the day of the opening.
Our company booked our rooms at JohnDel Beach Resort, a short 10-minute tricycle ride from the "bayan". Of course, we weren't expecting a glamorous place, since we know that we're on a budget. Besides, we won't do much here, just sleep.
We got there at half past 2, and we were quickly accommodated for check-in. At first look, the place looks very homey! The check in counter was not hotel-like at all, but it was okay. It took less than 5 minutes, then we were handed our room keys.
THE ROOMS -
Okay. So I told you we weren't expecting much, but what greeted us when we opened the door was worse than our expectations. The room was dimly lit, as the main light was busted (and it seemed like they did not replace it for a long time already). There was literally nothing but two beds in it. No dresser. No table. No chairs. A television set that's a blast from the past. Well, I'm just thankful that there is hot shower in the CR! Yahoo! When we turned on the aircon, a lizard jumped out in fear!!! Yikes. Seems like this room wasn't occupied in ages. Good thing I still slept well, probably because I was dead tired. HAHAHA. I hope they can renovate their rooms already!
THE BEACH -
The access to the beach closes at 6PM, so we were glad to catch a glimpse of the sunset when we got back from the store. The sand was fine, though it was grey (not the white sand some of you might be expecting). The water was clean, and I believe it is safe to swim in. The view was super nice! Got me comtemplating about life for a while. You can play with the two friendly dogs around the area, too!
THE FOOD -
Since we were to check-out at around 8AM in preparation for the store opening, we opted ro just grab some breakfast at the resort. We inquired about it during check-in, and we placed our orders ahead so the food will be ready by the times we are about to eat. They have a couple of options for breakfast, your usual silog meals. These are priced less than 200 pesos each, and comes with your choice of juice / coffee. I asked them if the tapa / tocino are homecured, and I was told that their tapa is. So I got that! Sirloin Tapa (Php 180) -- home-cured sirloin beef, with perfectly fried egg, and garlic rice. The beef was well seasoned and tender! I'm so glad I got this. In fairness, it lasted me until the afternoon! Very filling!
Overall, our experience was okay, despite the run-down room we were assigned in. Good thing service was super good, so at least the lack of room amenities was compensated for a bit. I'm not sure how much it costs to stay here, but I wouldn't recommend this if you're coming here for a vacation.
