You guys gotta try Ka Tunying's Tinapa (Smoked Fish) Chowder. It's served on a big bread bowl and it's really good. Of course, no fishbones included and it's affordable. Perfect for the rainy season.

Parking is limited at Ka Tunying's but the kind guard will hep youget a slot and watch over your car. You might get lucky you'll see the Channel 2 newscaster who owns this place once in a while. He's friendly too.

Truth is it should be 511088️ but because of not so attentive and approachable staff haist128548 minus 111088

But their food line-up deserves 1108811088110881108811088
Kalabasa Lasagna -though not so appealing, still the creaminess, well puréed squash and array of spices made this dish delectable!

Chicken tocino and Tapsilog were also satisfying (it comes with 2 cups of rice, but serve separately.

Okoy- next best to Alab's Okoy128522 not oily, sweet &spicy perfect with their vinegar.

The number of my reviews for this place doesn't account for the number of times I hung out here...128513 I just like what I like and I don't always want the hassle of braving the traffic, that's all...128515

Aside from liking their Maharlikape, I also like two other non-caffeinated beverages. One is the Agimat-- a shake that combines cucumber, calamansi, and other green stuff (128517) resulting in a very healthy and refreshing drink. I love their Dalandan and Ginger Iced Tea, which I order all the time. It doesn't have a strong ginger taste, which is good news for me... Comes in a flask but I found that I could finish it by myself!128517 mainit guys!

For their baked goods, I find their muffins just okay & a little dry... I prefer their tuna turnover-- affordable, delicious, and kind of heavy as well... Perfect if you are hungry and on a budget!128077

For the all day breakfast, one look and I knew that the owner is a Nueva Ecijano... Their longganisa choices include batutay, which is a sausage made of carabao beef... It is an acquired taste, but those who like it can't get enough of it. Since I figured that their longganisa might be the ones we have in my house, I opted to try their beef tapa. Salty with a hint of sweetness, wifh an egg and brown rice on the side. I liked it but I find their breakfast items pretty expensive...

The place is pretty homey adorned with heavy wooden tables and chairs, giving off that lanai feel... I just feel comfortable here... Come early since it does get packed!128522

One day, I was running late to study. I was sleepy and frazzled and in need of coffee. I ordered a mochabayan, their cafe mocha, which I remember enjoying on a previous visit.

As I waited for my coffee on the second floor, I passed by several occupied tables as I went to my usual seat. When the coffee was served, I exclaimed "Shucks kuya, ang liit naman nyan!" I was really sleepy and tired remember... But I did notice kuya's look of horror/surprise/panic... He averted his eyes and I followed his gaze. To non other than Ka Tunying himself... HELLO CAN I PLEASE DIE??? I pretended nothing happened, but I was mentally kicking myself. Another reminder that I cannot function without my morning cup of coffee! 128518128518128518

That aside, I thought the mochabayan was good. Dark chocolate undertones, much like tablea. But I like their Maharlikape better, a cheaper version of UCC's Kori Kohi. Coffee frozen into cubes and dropped into milk. (pictured) Not bad at all!128077 great for the weather we have right now.

No soy or nonfat options here unfortunately!

Happy that we found parking at Ka Tunying's after dinner at Gudo! This place gets very busy during dinnertime, so our timing that night was perfect!128513

My friends wanted to transfer after dinner... Actually, we had to transfer because Gudo doesn't serve desserts. I had a Plan A and a Plan B-- Ka Tunying's if there was parking and Caffe La Tea was Plan B... We didn't have to go to Plan B that night and yey for that! Just because I really wanted them to try out the new restaurant by the local celebrity...

This place is like Bread Talk-- pick up a tray, choose the breads that you like, then pay at the counter... If you want to try their coffee or their food, their very pleasant staff will assist you... We were there for coffee but we couldn't pass up the chance to try their baked goodies. I finally know what kind of pan de Sal my mom bought, turmeric pan de Sal! I bought more of those ensaymadas and tried their coffee bun...

I tried their mochabayan, because I found the name pretty cute... I know, how deep!128517 but I liked the taste of this drink and it's pretty affordable... My friends got their blended drinks, but I didn't get to try them anymore... But they did enjoy their respective drinks. They also have fruit blends and juices, which is great for non-coffee drinkers... The coffee bun was just okay, Kopi Roti's still sets the bar in that department...

We stayed on their second floor, which was very inviting... They have those big wooden tables that you would expect to see in a lanai... The area was very simple with beautiful paintings on the wall... We really liked the space! I think it would be a good place to study...

Staff were very very nice and attentive... They went around to announce that it would be their last call for orders already, but we still stayed for a bit... We would love to come back for their rice meals soon!128077🏻

THEY WERE NOT KIDDING WHEN THEY SAID THAT THIS DRINK IS SPICED... I should have overestimated the drink and underestimated my tolerance for spicy food and drinks.

I decided to veer away from my usual coffee orders here of Mochabayan and Maharlikape one day. I ordered a Spiced Cocochino to go with my blueberry muffin. This drink is made up of espresso, a bit of coconut milk and labuyo. For some reason, I didn't think much of it when I ordered it. I was just excited to try a new drink.

So it was served with my muffin and I took one big gulp and-- 128165128125🦂128293🌪127755!!!! Insert your choice of expletive here!!! That was one SPICY drink!!! Hello!!! My taste buds were on fire, seriously! I took a moment to compose myself and tried it again, hoping I was just caught off guard... 128165128125🦂128293🌪127755!!! Sweat was started forming on my forehead... I went downstairs to ask the staff if it was supposed to be that HOT... As in kill every taste bud in my mouth hot.

They apologized that it was so hot. I wish they gave me a warning. They said that it depends on the chili that they used. There were some pieces that were okay, where the customers ask if they really put labuyo in it... But there were some cups wherein they use a very potent sili, just by chance... And the customer reacts this way... I really asked about how the drink was made because of that explanation.

They said that they add crushed siling labuyo together with the ground beans before making the espresso shot. So the oils of the chili are really transferred to the coffee... That's why there are cups that don't have that much heat, it depends on the individual chili that you use... I don't like that they produce a drink that is this inconsistent from cup to cup... Then again, this might be a good choice for people who love spicy food... But, I had to order a Maharlikape that day to get my caffeine fix...128556

Except for the staff that was very accommodating, nothing is worth coming back here. My friend and I both had Arroz Caldo ala Tunying. I had Fiesta Gulaman and Anna had Pastillas latte ala Smoothie. The arroz caldo was not hot, as we expect it to be. Had to put in fish sauce since it was bland. The beverage was also found wanting. We all know gulaman to be sweet, but this was not. Anna's smoothie was the only saving grace of this food trip. This food disappointment made me really sad because I just live nearby, and was hoping this will be my go-to place for meeting with friends.

It's quite a challenge to visit Ka Tunying's along Visayas Ave! There are always a lot of people and virtually no parking space in front! But that's what happens when a celebrity opens a bakery in the neighborhood...128522

Elmer R and Laine V's reviews got me curious about the food. Unfortunately, we couldn't find parking... So I made a lap along the length of Visayas Ave while my mom bought some of their breads... She got hopia, several kinds of ensaymada and a healthy kind of pandesal... I have already tried the squash ensaymada and I liked it! I agree with Laine that the squash flavor wasn't too pronounced but I didn't mind! I asked my mom what the pandesal was made of, for the sake of my review... She said, basta healthy yan.128517 Lol!128514 Oh well, I trust mom anyway! The pandesal goes pretty well with Lily's peanut butter!128525 Yummy! My kind of snack!128077

Roegan T I love your pic of this place! That's the healthy pandesal in the pic!128513 I really want to try the coffee you had on my next visit!9786

Ang mundo ng pagkakakilanlan ko sa latte arts ay nagulantang noong nakita ko ang latte arts ng katunying. Please describe.
Abstract.

I started this king-prince-pauper diet just this year so i thought of having a heavy breakfast here. A true filipino cafe. A fusion of bread talk and 3rd wave cafe. Oriental in interior with about 4 square tables available inside the 1st floor.
128204Strawberry dannish
There was peach and cherry. It was only the strawberry jam to prove it was a strawberry dannish. Meh. Not flaky at all.
128204Blueberry muffin
I love the texture on top. Not so sweet all throughout. There's a little blueberry syrup surprise on the bottom of the pastry.
128204Pork floss
Haha. The floss was not really striated fluffy. More like clumped and dense
128204Supremo latte.
This tasted barako beans.
128204Mochabayan
Yes i had my second round. Chocolate use taste like tablea. This made the drink darker than supremo.

I find the taste of the bread very local and filipino. No touch of fluffiness or aroma. Walang feeling in the clouds kapafmg kumakain ka ng masarap na tinapay. 128540

I really love this Pinoy-themed cafe in our neighborhood. Granted, it got its popularity due to its owner's celebrity status. But, the food quality is actually pretty good and the menu & bakery items are quite quirky. Also, the ones I've tried tasted like they were made with quality ingredients.

Hubby & I like to have breakfast here before heading to the grocery. It's true, never buy groceries on an empty stomach or you risk ending up with too much on your cart 128513

I usually get the garlic longganisa & the Tsokolate Eh. Hubby has gotten the Bangsilog, Adobo, & Tapsilog on various occasions. I like the Longsilog as they make their own longganisa and it's really good. The hot chocolate is also good as well. Hubby says he liked everything he's tried, except today the tapa's meat was a little tough though he liked the flavor. I've tried their Kalabasa Ensaymada and the bread was pillowy soft, with a good amount of cheese on top. Could barely taste the squash flavor but that was ok with me.

It's a little bit pricey for breakfast (P195 each for the Tapsi & Longsilog) but I think it's worth it as the serving portions are quite generous. My Longsilog comes with 2 eggs, 3 pieces of longganisa & their really good Adobo rice. Plus, they've improved their service. Used to take us 30-40 minutes to get our food but today we got it in about 15 minutes or so.

Coming back to try the Champorado next time 128523127860

This resto made it to prime time news when still unknown persons strafed this place with bullets just months ago.

This however did not deter people (that includes me) to flock to this Cafe and Bakeshop.

At the ground floor is where you order your meals and pay for loads of baked goodies. You can enjoy their good coffee here, the Ka Tunying's blend, and the delicious all day breakfast food or better still go upstairs where you can sit and dine al fresco and enjoy the view or inside the air conditioned dining room.

Good news for bargain hunters, they sell bakery items 50% off past 9pm. Now that is a very good reason to brave the traffic and distance. And don't forget to try the food. The baked bangus belly was creamy and cheesy, one worthy dish to have here.

I always take Visayas Ave. at night. This place gets packed at night. I started to wonder what it was all about.

Then this morning, on my way back from my "comeback" ride, dad and I parked our bikes outside and decided to check it out.

We both had their blueberry muffin (P35 each) and Mochabayan (P85 - barako espresso w/ taal tsokolate and milk).

The muffin was just okay. Nothing really special about it. But the coffee was awesome! It has the kick that you'll need for the day. 128076

The interiors look good and the servers were polite.

They also sell lots of different pastries. I'd love to try their cinnamon-like swirl. 128525

Can't wait to go back! Avoid going at night since it's when the people go here. Probably because of their 30% discount on pastries from 8pm onwards 128514
