As a promise to a friend whose family owns the place, I decided to have Sunday lunch in this somewhat new Boodle place along the National Highway in Solano, Nueva Vizcaya. One might not easily notice the place as it is situated inside a local gasoline station, but it was a pleasant surprise to see almost all tables filled with families and small groups bonding on a weekend. It was quite warm as one of the air conditioning unit was failing on us but when we moved to another area, the sun's scorching heat from outside was no longer an issue. The place's high ceiling and cream colored walls makes it cozy with a little warmth from the giant painting on the wall and the "banderitas" (small, colorful flags) all over the place. Tables, even if large enough for the huge boodle trays, are placed apart from each other keeping each group of customers comfortable and not feeling cramped. The heavy wooden chairs also add class to the place. I especially liked the lighting fixtures by the washroom. We ordered the Pork Madness Boodle which the menu says is good for 4-5 people. I'd say it can feed even more than that. Ordering iced tea served in a tower-like container is more practical than ordering single drinks in glasses. Food was great. I LOVED the crunchy and extra tasty Crispy Pata. The other grilled goodies like pork liempo, barbecue, grilled fish (Solano is known for raising tilapia) served with grilled vegetables were equally delicious and satisfying. Probably the reason why the place was packed in spite of the location and it's somewhat steep price compared to its competition in the city proper. A couple of things I hope would improve are the waiting time and availability of stocks. It took more than 30-minutes before our food got served. Though I know they cook food per order to preserve its taste and freshness, but there could be faster means of grilling food that I hope they can learn. Regardless of that, I would still go back because the food was worth waiting for. It is probably best not to go there too hungry or you'd probably end up with a headache from hunger and frustration.
