We've visited this place a couple of times when they were still located on the second floor. I remember liking their desserts but always found it so expensive, especially the tiramisu, which MOO would always bring home, that cost about 150 pesos for a really small serving in a plastic container. I could eat it in one big bite. A cupcake is bigger. But he liked it and bought some whenever he had to gas up in Petron where this is at.

I passed by a few days ago with a severe craving for red velvet. I got myself the cupcake and ate it in the store. I wasn't too happy with it. Frosting was great, right amount of cream cheese and sugar. The cake itself was close to drying. Not dry yet, but you know it's getting there. Not as moist and it felt like it was nearing its expiration. Maybe the chiller is too cold?

I'll just go straight to their Pasig branch next time, which I've never been to. Selection here is also limited.

The store is cute, probably resembling their main branch. They're in the ground floor now. Tiramisu is still as small as ever and now over 200/piece.

Too bad this is just a take-out counter! I heard that their branch in Kapitolyo is the most charming but this is just charming as well. But I just really came here to pick up some treats and ended up getting one for myself. 128523 No wonder this was hailed as having the top red velvet cupcake by spot.ph. It's really good! Best to eat it while it's still a lil cold. One good sweet treat for a sunny day! 127774128523127774

On my way to pick up yet another hamleg... Subtle but pristine window design caught my attention ... The lovely chic furnitures of the quaint little cafe than can seat 8 makes u wanna slow down and hv a bite of their cake... Little trinkets... Lovely xmas door chime ...all add to its charm... Red velvet ... To die for !!!

Little hidden treasure in the middle of a bustling gasoline station

All the reviews raved on how good their red velvet cake was.. And I was attracted to buy one to try...
The result? The cream cheese frosting is very sweet that I woke up today still feeling the sweetness on my throat..
Should have stayed loyal to "the sweet life by Ange" for their red velvet cake! The best i ever had

When it comes to cakes, I usually prefer the moist-superthick-inYourFaceCalories type and rarely do I crave for something light fluffy.

This Strawberry Shortcake from Karen's is one of the rare few! The strawberries on top were VERY fresh! The whole cake itself had the prefect sweetness with a little hint of sour from the strawberries. There's another layer of strawberries and cream between the two layers of very light sponge cake so hindi ka mabibitin sa strawberries, good job! 5/5

**the problem with this cake is that it is so light and addictive, I can finish 1/4 of the cake without effort! After a heavy meal pa yun partida! May pa-light light cakes pa akong nalalaman, mapaparami din pala. Ingat lang and eat this cocaine moderately :)

Sa uulitin,
Chewy

This Red Velvet's becoming my most favorite cake! Before the fad of red velvet in the industry came to surface, my dad already had us try this after reading through food blogs.. And since then.. It's been my no. 1! 128525

Every time one of my kabarkada celebrates his/her birthday, we always make it a point to get this too!

For those who haven't tried this - better make sure to grab a slice! Their little red velvet desserts are sinfully delicious as well! 128525

The moist is just right plus it's not too sweet and yet you can still get the taste of the cream cheese! Mmmm! 128523

P.S. Now you know what to get me for my birthday! 128521 Haha, I kid! 128540

One of the best red velvets. I'll try Joyce's Redvelvet soon. But seriously, this one is good. 128523128523

Before I thought of red velvet only for weddings. Then the cupcakes and cakes "red velvet madness" spread. Up until I met Karen's red velvet till I truly fell for this dessert. Okay, to be honest it's actually a favorite birthday cake. Gaaah. So moist. Lots of cream cheese. Not too sweet. What more can you ask for? 128077128077128525128525

Tried the Chocolate Xanadu mini cake (in picture), Chocolate Ganache cupcake and Red Velvet cupcake. The server said that the cupcake versions tasted the same as the cakes so I took their word for it.

I loved the crunch and flavor of the Chocolate Xanadu. It had chocolate bits and a wafer-like layer.

I'm not a big fan of anything Red Velvet but I have to say that their Red Velvet cupcake is pretty good. In fact, I thought It was better than the Chocolate Ganache. The frosting was really creamy while the base was moist.

I was a bit disappointed with the Chocolate Ganache since I've read rave reviews about it. It was a bit dry and the chocolate flavor didn't really wow me. I still want to give this a chance. Maybe I should get the cake next time.

Had no choice but to get the cupcakes from here, today being a Sunday.
I prefer getting cakes from Palm Village, where I always do. I think the cake is fresher there unless they now make their cakes and pastries ahead of time, to supply this Petron branch.
The red velvet cupcakes are still good ! The white chocolate shavings on top of the honest-to-goodness cream cheese frosting. The frosting is not too sweet with just a bit of tart. The cake base is not too sweet, fluffy, but a bit on the dry side - probably because it has been chilled for a couple of days. But it is still my number one red velvet cupcake .

Been hearing a lot of good things about Karen's Kitchen since way back but I only got to try their bestselling red velvet products recently.

Since their shop is weirdly located at a gas station, I ordered a personal sized red velvet cake for to-go and ended up eating it as my movie snack.

It felt weird actually to eat cake in the dark but doing so made me enjoy the experience of eating a red velvet treat all the more! I was able to appreciate the cream cheese frosting--a mixture of sour, creamy, and sweet goodness coating the tender and moist crumb of the perfectly red-hued cake.

Even though I enjoyed it, I wouldn't recommend finishing the whole thing in one sitting because medyo nakakaumay siya 128513 I ended up eating only half of it and bringing the rest of it home.

During my next visit, I was able to try the red velvet cupcake and it was amazing!!128525It was the perfect serving size and in my opinion, mas bagay lang talaga red velvet as cupcake than cake. No wonder it was ranked as the #1 red velvet cupcake in Manila!

Are you still with me? Let's continue with our ultimate foodtrip series...

3rd pit stop & 1st dessert jaunt was Karen's Kitchen. Their shop is for take away orders only. We had to eat in Jairus d's car coz there's not a single table in there. Ganeern, bawal kumain sa tindahan nyo!?

Anyway highway, I got their mini Tres Leches. Reminds me of bread & condensed milk combo I used to devour when I was a kid. I liked KK's version, it's moist, light and not overwhelmingly sweet.

My first visit with Karen's Kitchen was way back 2010 at her unassuming branch in Palm Village. Karen Young's version of red velvet cake has been celebrated by different blogs, newspapers & magazines but my tastebuds are saying otherwise. Not that it's not awesome but you see, I'm not a red velvet fan.128517

You might be asking "bat yun ang inorder mu?" Well, yun lang kasi ang available that time. I was not aware that like Estrel's, placing an order ahead of time is a must. Two-three working days prior to the day of pick-up/delivery to be specific.

So it was a golden moment when Ms. Karen decided to put up a second branch where cakes are being sold in slices (ang saya lang!128518). And yesterday like a dog on a bone, my eyes were only focused on one cake: The Chocolate Ganache.

I have always wondered how will it taste like, if her version will be at par with Polly's, Slice,Poco Deli, Chocolat etc. So eto na, biglang walang available na slice. Toinks! I stubbornly bought the 6" cake for the sake of trying it. Now it's infront of me, chilled. Parang nagsasalita "tikman mo ako". 128561

I took a spoon with excitement and alas, I didn't like it 128533. The icing that envelopes the cake is too thick, not overly sweet but somehow lacks the richness I desire on a chocolate icing. The chiffon is soft but not moist. The ganache filling that oozes out from the middle is good but my hopes were already dashed.128546

I must say tho that the cake was oddly good today. The thick icing was more loose and creamy and the chiffon is already moist. Probably because it was out in the fridge for almost an hour pero wala pa ring spark.128532

I'm rating four stars but this cake is not for me. 128542

While I love meeting up and trying new restaurant joints with my girlfriends, there is still this effortless and understated casualty in just lounging around someone's house, completely enjoy each other's company and for a while forget the busy world around us.

Tomorrow, I would be hosting a brunch party at home and good food is obviously a must. I was thinking a while ago of a desert that would impress my guests'' tastebuds and automatically, I thought of Karen's Kitchen Red Velvet Cake. I'm having a feeling that this would be a big hit!! 128037
